The music might not actually be from the movie. Trailers are often put together on very tight deadlines and by contractors who had nothing to do with the actual film. The number of of trailers in the 80's and 90's that used the Bishop's Countdown cue from Aliens despite it not being anywhere in the movie being advertised...

Hell even the Bladerunner 2049 trailer didn't use any music from the actual film.

So... cautiously optimistic? I like the mechanical designs but a lot of the costumes are too clearly pieces of airsoft gear glued together and it's a bit distracting seeing the Atreides sport Mechanix MPact gloves in the Grim Future of year 10191.

Btw the music, if some of you don't know, is a cover of Pink Floyd's Brain Damage/Eclipse. I found it quite fitting, actually.

Edit: I have changed my mind on the music. It is a cover of this Pink Floyd Track. Jodorowski wanted Pink Floyd as the soundtrack of his Dune movie. Absolutely intentional homage. Well played, Villeneuve.
You are right, actually. That could be a homage to Jodorowski's Dune. Holy shit, that makes that even better! Thank's, man!

I know I'm going to watch this movie anyway so I think I'll pass. Dune is one of my favourite books and Villeneuve my favourite director. This fucking better be amazing.

Not a great first trailer. I could see this bombing honestly. The effects didn't look that much better than a sci-fi channel movie. The music was not good. I don't think there was a single "wow" shot in the whole trailer.

I'm familiar with the previous movie and TV series and the director, so I know this will be good. But the trailer wasn't a good first showing.

Here’s your Star Wars killer.

Sets are typical Villenneuve style devoid of set dressing which I’m not a fan of but everything else looks great. Gurney Halleck (or is it Duncan Idaho? I’ve forgotten) and the training room are close to what I imaged in my head years ago.

Yeah i get what you mean and mentioned it earlier. It has that green screen look to everything, where you can tell the actors and a few props are the only real thing you are seeing on screen. Many Sci-Fi series have that look, including Children of Dune.

You people are weird. Even Lynch disowns his own Dune film.
Dune is too hard to do in a single movie, I still believe that Denis has his work cut out for him to make a cohesive story, esp with all the internal monologues and thoughts that litter the books.
I see him handling this differently, hopefully he assumes people understand a lot of the world and character building that Lynch struggled with, otherwise Denis and his vision will suffer with similar pacing issues, or be a convoluted pretentious mess

Just a question to the people that have read the books and know all the lore etc. I watched a Youtube vid the other week, it was about an hour long, and it was just a guy explaining the lore of Dune, and how it expands 30,000 years, and he talked about all these events and stuff that happened in the universe etc. Well it sounded very expansive and deep.
So i was just wondering why the Lynch film, this film, and the series, all are based on this Dances with Wolves/Avatar plot. Is it becausee the first book is this plot?

Most of the aesthetic is dry relatively speaking probably so when you see something crazy like a sandworm or a navigator its gonna be more intense.

And if the sandworms are this nuts, I can't even imagine what the navigators will look like.

Well perhaps the next Star Wars movie will take more influence from this version of Dune?

And so the cycle will continue.

Villenneuve is a great director so I'm already in. That being said, the trailer wasn't the best.. not sure if it was the music or what.

lol wat

"There's a crusade coming"

You mean jihad?

Exactly my thoughts. I laughed when I heard it. Lord, they're such cowards - they had to say it in the very first seconds of the trailer.

Anyway, I must admit that Dune confuses me. It's my brother's favourite set of novels and he forced me to read them as a youngster (well, the first few). I think the world building is immense, but I remain convinced that the story is absolute gibberish.

It would be a pity if they remove the jihad element - as the quasi-religious symbolism is about the most interesting thing the story has to offer.

Well, was not a Dune fan in the past, and as much as i like Villeneuve movies, im feeling it will please the fans but not really get other audience, it disnt catch my attention, like one second. Got a bad feeling it will have a lost like Serenity, despite being acclaimed by their fans.

My only real complaint are some of the shots look overtly gray. I wish directors today would not be afraid in giving us color.

Speaking of directors, I'm glad Denis Villeneuve is the one helming this. I'm not a huge Dune fan by any means (thought the book was okay, Lynch film was crap but I really liked the SciFi miniseries, especially Children of Dune), but Villeneuve I like as a director ever since Arrival and Blade Runner 2049. His take on Shai Halud (the sandworm) looks much different than previous versions.

Have no real complaints about the cast but I'm still not sold on Chalamet as Paul.

Edit: I have changed my mind on the music. It is a cover of this Pink Floyd Track. Jodorowski wanted Pink Floyd as the soundtrack of his Dune movie. Absolutely intentional homage. Well played, Villeneuve.

Did not not know that. Thanks for the trivia.

Looks very close to the original film which I didn't think it was that great story wise. I've no idea if the books later were better? Maybe Dune 2 is what I'm waiting for.

What I mean is, if you have seen the original film, this isn't looking much different story wise.

I don't like the Lynch style Stillsuits. The Sy Fy series was a little different from what I've seen and recall and I liked that better. Would have preferred a third interpretation. This almost feels like a throwback to the Lynch film.

The trailer before Tenet was way shorter, there was even a part like "see the first trailer..." and i was like "motherfucker, I'm here, this is it, now."

The first book is really about this one conflict on on the titular planet, Dune (Arrakis). The next two books are about the family's continuing story on this planet. The fourth jumps the timeline a couple thousand years and starts dealing with more planets, while the last two books are kind of like a two-parter another couple thousand years in the future from the fourth book. Everything that happened on Earth and why there's this corporate control of the galaxy masquerading as noble houses is only hinted at throughout the first book.
