Always wondered, is this gif fake?
Yesterday I was interdicted by System Authority ship. After interdiction (I submitted because was in the mood for fight, but did not expect to see System Authority) it said nothing, even did not scan me and flew away. Moreover, I am friendly with this system controlling faction (Federation), ship was green on my radar.
I've been in Ho Hsi couple of days ago - there was high intensity combat zone and several low intensity ones. Looks like war is not over.
Finally sat down and found my own trade routes after getting frustrated by the online tools.
The "public" routes either dry up too fast or are swarmed by real unpleasant CMDRs.
It took a good hour or so until I found something that yielded around 2300/ton profit bidirectional, which is a little less than what the online tools would provide, but I found it myself, so there is some pride in that!
Checked out the bulletin board to see the ship traffic, and it was around 20 ships for both trade stations. Pretty cool.
Is there any sort of GAF collective for this game? I've been playing pretty regularly lately, would be nice to know what systems are popular.

Stuff about 1.2 & Wings : http://www.pcgamer.com/elite-dangerous-12-preview-flying-together-with-wings/
Highlights:
- Feedback shared across Wing: who is targeting who, ship statuses
- Easier to follow in and out of super cruise
- Status of Wingmen displayed in Ship UI
- Wingmen color-coded on scanner/comms
- Bounties shared for ships brought down together
- To counteract increased firepower that Wings bring, tougher challenges will come in that basically require multiple ships' firepower to complete
- Tougher challenges/missions bring better rewards/bounties
- Four pilot limit per Wing to prevent "owning" a system
- Multiple wings can be present at any given location
- No "Wing leader"--each player has their own autonomy
- When jumping, you can lock onto ANY member of the Wing to automatically follow them
- "Rules" around manually entering/exiting a jump are more relaxed for Wings so you can more easily jump/arrive together
- Wings aren't forced to stay together--no restrictions whatsoever on which system you can access
- "If one of you gets into trouble you can immediately call the others for help from far away."--wonder if route planning can be extended to reaching a Wingman
- Hope to create more dangerous encounters, both in normal and Super cruise
- Future possibilities
- Modify or add missions that cater to Wings. Specifically mention potentially adding cargo depots where multiple Wingmen can deposit cargo for the same mission.
- Could also use limpets to transfer fuel to a Wingman
- Take a specific formation around "stellar bodies and perform advanced linked scans"
- 1.2 enters beta the first week of March
On one hand that sounds awesome. On the other hand, pirate wings are going to be something to really fear. I hope I never get interdicted by a pirate wing in my unarmed Asp Explorer. Also that "Hope to create more dangerous encounters, both in normal and Super cruise" has me worried.
Pirate wings interdicting you will mean instant-death :O
What i am missing? I leave a station and there is a planet between me and next target preventing me to frame shift. Is the only way tho turn on frameshift to target previous stationand then next target or can i force frameshift somehow?
I wonder if going to high-pop systems solo is going to be like going to Cherno or Elektro in DayZ solo: don't do it.

An interesting thing about 1.2 with the threat of groups of pirates out there, traders and explorers may need to hire other players like mercenaries to ensure safe passage through high piracy systems like Lave.
Opens up some cool gameplay options!

I was a bit bored - or more accurately underwhelmed - by the missions starting out so last night I decided to try mining. Got the basic shit and went out, made a bit of money in not that long so I think I'm going to do this and save up for an intermediate explorer ship like an Adder.
I really want to do a long exploration trip, can't wait until I can outfit a ship to do it. Random related question, I was checking out components and stuff trying to figure out how I would kit out my hypothetical exploring vessel and I'm not sure what's more efficient - a higher class fuel scoop or FSD? Like if I have only one Class 3 internal compartment available should I use it for the best scoop or best FSD?
EDIT: about the missions, I'm just too indecisive at this point to do them I think. I don't mind the random small transport jobs but if the board doesn't have anything like that I feel the need to do a combat mission, and it seems like half the time I get there and the guy begs me to not kill him so I don't, mainly because I'm hesitant to get negative rep with any faction. I assume I'll have to pick a side at some point, but the combat in my Sidewinder with it's popgun lasers isn't exactly thrilling anyway.
Best FSD and it isn't even close. Downsizing your FSD will halve or more your max jump distance.

If you look at your right hand ship menu (default key: 4), you can go to Functions and set "Report Crimes Against Me" to ON and when you are attacked and in a system with security forces, they will eventually jump into your location and attack the ship that is attacking you. Assuming you survive that long.Is there a system in place where the local authorities will assist you when you are under attack? I'm thinking my friend has reported that when he was bounty hunting and once he became friendly with the Federation that they assisted in some combat. Granted I don't know if they jumped in to assist or if they were already present but maybe that could be incentive to build up reputation with the locals?
So, I have a bit of experience here since I've spent a lot of time exploring. Im currently at the galactic core 25,000 light years out.

I've got ~230k credits--figure I can earn enough this weekend for a Cobra.
Do y'all think I should also sell my Viper for some spare change? I mostly do bounty hunting right now, but am considering making the move to trading just to get some good income. Is the Cobra a capable fighter vs the Viper?
Out of curiosity do NPCs show up around the stars (I assuming they are there due to NAV beacons in the core systems) or is it just barren systems out there besides the super rare player contact?

I had both ships, and personally, I much prefer the Viper. I ended up selling my Cobra and went back to my Viper. The cargo space is nice on the Cobra, but I found in combat, it was not nearly as good as my Viper with all the upgrades I had on it. Even after upgrading the Cobra to similar levels, the Viper I had was much more capable in a fight. For starters, the hardpoint placement on the viper focuses all four guns on practically the same spot, allowing you to do very targeted damage to subsystems with all your firepower, even at close range. The shields and engines on the Viper are amazing for the ship, and when your shields go down you can divert full power to engines and outrun any other ship in the game while your shields recharge. That's a huge, understated benefit. They are both very capable fighters.
The Cobra is a much more massive ship, which makes it more survivable if things start to fall out of your favor in a fight, and also makes ramming smaller ships a valid combat tactic. The Viper has stronger shields and slightly better hardpoint placement which make it a better aggressive fighter but it's really fragile once the shields are gone.
If you're going to buy a Cobra I'd sell the Viper, they have too many overlaps with the Cobra really just being a more complete ship.
Sorry!Way to ruin the party, owlbeak.
Absolutely, Cobra is better for trading. If you're into trading, its worth it. I'd rather earn my money through exploration (which can be done in the Viper quite admirably, for relatively short range exploration, and can still hold its own when you get interdicted in deep space by some asshole NPC) and killing bounties in RES and Nav Beacons.I'd agree that the Viper is flat out much better for combat, but the Cobra is a multipurpose ship: It will allow you to trade, while the Viper won't.
After a few trading runs you'll very quickly find yourself with more than enough money to buy a secondary ship for combat... and it will probably be the Viper, yes.
I kind of lost the joy in playing this game :/
Did some trading for 30 minutes (2.3Mio CR) in my Python and was already bored. My current assets are worth 73Mio CR, so I'm still far from the Anaconda.

Kind of the same. Have a pimped Anaconda with mostly A class and great defence but not sure what I want to do. I was really hoping for some great NPC Wing action but I think this patch is just going to be PVP Pirate Wings. Not sure of the point in paying for escorts. Nobody will want to follow me for hours between posts lol!
I enjoy PVE more than MP and PVP stuff so hopefully 1.2 has some surprises as 1.1 community goals were pretty sad.
Think I may just buy an Asp and head out exploring for a month.
Still saving up for an Asp. The grind just takes so damn long, I'm brain-numb after a couple hours of trading.
