So this is what the amiibo guardian gets you: Ancient items?

weapon??
Treasure chest
Some kind of cloth or something?

Zelda will give a shield and a chest, archer link will give a bow and a chest

I'm guessing no direct then.

Why would they compete with the press previews.

Probably a direct a month or two after release to break the seal.

I think we'll be waiting a bit for the answer there. Logic would seem to suggest that the Joy Con would charge while the system is charging (if attached). However, that's a weird little detail that I don't see Nintendo making a point of explaining explicitly.

If you can't charge the Joy Con outside of using a 39W charger (like the official AC adapter), people would probably riot.

From what I understand, absolutely.

ah ok thanks guys! Im just double confirming just in case I seemed to have missed something! Cheers :)

Moneyhats, fanboyism, things like this. It starts with "well early impressions are always positive, can't trust 'em" then when the reviews are good "well they were paid or are just Zelda fanboys, Skyward Sword got good reviews too and just look at THAT piece of shit"

This isn't directly related, but I will say I've seen a good number of people on social media who've never been interested in the Zelda series before state their intent to pick BotW up at launch.

As some one who hasn't been "hyped" for a Zelda game in over a decade, but is truly looking forward to playing BotW, this was something that caught my attention.

It's for views.

I agree wholeheartedly! Once one outlet (or a random Gaffer) covers something, it should be completely off limits for everyone else. That coverage will get posted to the internet homepage that everyone sees upon connecting "to the net".
/s

I'm not saying not to do it, I guess its just more about the perception that you know you will get less views b/c its already old news due to the leak.

I edited my original post but as a thought, gamexplain could have parodied themselves with an analysis unboxing video that maybe would push some extra views.

Never had a wii-u...so question. What do Amibos do? Do they give you in game perks?

It varies. In some cases they give you a character that plays along with you and can level up. In other cases they give you clothes or perks. Some Amibo's work on multiple games which is nice.

It looks like the console we saw in the trailer. Breaking news. Stop the presses. It was really worth making a video.

Joking ofc, but I really don't get these youtube trends, and this one is amongst the weirdest
A lot of people were complaining about how messy the packaging look, considering this is a new box being opened, this will quell those worries.

I've seen it as well, though I'm wondering how much of it is chalked to it being able to mark off "open world" on the modern gamer's interest checklist as well as it being potentially anecdotal.

Amiibos are like figurines that basically interact with compatible games.

For example, the wolf link amiibo if used with Zelda BOTW will allow link to
travel with wolf link by his side.
.. in Smash Bros, the amiibos can be used as ghost data etc.

Their purpose is to complement the game with some exclusive features

Fi pops up too often, but I feel like I would have to have absolutely zero patience to react to her like some people do lol

And the handholding is exaggerated. Greatly. People act like she told you everything to do. She did on occasion, which was annoying-- but again, greatly overexaggerated.

Generic? Don't see how. The game's art direction, designs, dungeons, environments were gorgeous and detailed. Didn't reward exploration? Simply not true. But I guess I can play fair and give you your other complaints as I can see how that stuff could be completely subjective, but it absolutely rewarded exploration. The environments were very dense and filled with things to find.

I'm replying SS right now (on Hero mode), and it's cementing its place as my fav of the 3D Zeldas.

A lot of the Fi stuff is optional. You can ignore her pretty often. And unavoidably pops up during important moments. I think if the text speed was faster, there would be next to nothing to complain about. I like the aesthetic of the character enough that I don't mind when she shows up.

Yea there's the opening tutorial, but I was surprised how much I enjoyed it. Lots of great character moments to keep the pace up.

It seems to me that BotW is taking the dense environments from SS but instead of separate areas they are now all connected together. Which is incredible.

You mean best combat (and I agree)? Gameplay is more than just combat.

Everything tied to the gameplay in SS was aced. Flying was really satisfying, the little puzzles based on how you hold the wiimote were good too.
But yeah, the best part were the combats.

I hate him!!!!!

the only problem I had with SS was the pacing... it was annoying. Revisiting the same environments became boring really quickly.

The dungeon design was amazing and so was the motion controls

It's my only real problem with the game, as it directly affects a lot of things, like when you get an item and you have to read through the same item text every time, which was also an issue. Little things like that did bug me, but it wasn't some game killer like some people let on.

The opening "tutorial" is also plot setup and character introductions. Skyward is chronologically the beginning and the story in the game (brilliantly IMO) establishes a lot of the familiar elements across the series. The big opening felt right to me and was much better than TP's opening IMO.

It seems to me that BotW is taking the dense environments from SS but instead of separate areas they are now all connected together. Which is incredible.

People complained about no "overworld" in SS, how the sky was "empty" and this and that, but the sky was never meant to be an overworld, really, not in the traditional sense-- like Hyrule Field, it was basically just a place to situate Skyloft and a few other things in, and provide transport between the three major areas down below. Hyrule Field in Ocarina was also this big mostly empty circular place that had Lon Lon Ranch and some grottos.

I dunno, like I get some of the complaints leveled at the game and I have a few of my own, but a lot of what people complain about doesn't personally resonate with me. Instead of whining about the overworld I was actually you know doing stuff that the game gave me to do. And the dungeons were absolutely among the best in the series.

Damn now I want one, thanks.

Sorry, if this has been asked before: does the Zelda preview embargo have any restrictions of what they can show? Can they stream virtually the whole game until release?

we are so close to the Nintendo switch... to think we went through a WHOLE year of NX talk and now here we are... with just 11 DAYS LEFT!

Honestly, truly

What is the point of other unboxing videos when unboxing was leaked over the weekend. I appreciate the effort but not much you can honestly do with these videos that will be any different from what we already saw, at least they got the amiibos!

getting antsy at this point, need to fast forward 2 weeks.

Edit: GameXplain should have gone all the way into parody and actually did a spoof analysis unboxing video. At least it would have been something diff.

That's like saying, what's the point of other FPS games when there already is one.

I'm just going to go ahead and say it: outside of the CD-i, there are no bad Zelda games.

None.

That doesn't mean they're perfect. There are some Zelda games with large flaws, such as the DS games.

But not a single Nintendo or Capcom developed Zelda deserves to be called a "bad" game.

(And Skyward Sword is god damn amazing so I will never understand the hate I see for that on GAF sometimes.)

I've only played the 3D ones, but I've always felt similarly. I have my favorites of course, but can't say I've ever despised any of them, or felt that the quality wasn't up to snuff.

This gif looks like what will happen if zelda falls under a 90 for some people. I'm still there day one regardless since the last zelda I played was twilight princess but I'm looking forward to the review thread.

With joy-cons it's fully possible.

Is there anything the Joy Cons can't do that the Wii remote/nunchuk could?

Alllllll of this.

There's no speaker in the Joy-Cons I think

The IR sensor in the joycon is in the bottom of it. Also, there's no IR sensor near the TV.
Maybe they could emulate it with the gyros?

So it could still be somewhat tricky. Unless they revamped it without motion controls, but that'd be a haul right there and would change a lot of the game. Though it'd be possible, and the game would still be awesome. And maybe more people could appreciate it that way.

I'd still want motion controls though as I find the combat and aiming to be super fun, but I would take an HD remaster in just about any form.

Can't wait to read the hardware impressions. I feel like Zelda is going to be really good so I'm less interested in that.

Alllllll of this.

IR aiming. I believe Wii VC would be impossible on Switch for games that use the sensor bar for aiming.

Yeah... IR aiming would be the biggest issue with the default Joy Con. I have no doubt that we'll get Wii VC games in the future, but they won't work with the default Joy Con. It'd have to be some gross setup where you can attach a sensor bar to the dock and sync a regular Wii-Mote. Maybe there's some way they can also sell a Joy Con that replicates the Wii-Mote on its own.

What about predicting how the other games will review, 'cause we all know Zelda will be a hit and all that.

I'd say that 1-2 Switch will score an awful ~55 and Bomberman R a decent 76.
