EXCLUSIVE – EA Sports F1 Series Continues with Two-Year Option Pick-Up

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

The relationship between EA Sports and Formula 1 (F1) will continue for at least a couple more years.

Insider Gaming has learned that the two-year option that was available as part of the current license agreement between F1 and EA Sports has been picked up.

A representative for EA confirmed the news to Insider Gaming on Tuesday.

F1 25, which launched on May 30, was the final game of the agreement that was signed between F1 and Codemasters in 2019. The contract was originally set to expire at the end of 2025. However, there was an option to extend it for two years to keep the series moving for through at least 2027.

Isn't this an unverified rumor?

They're getting rebranded, but I think previously they did announce that they won't be developing more F1 games.

Unless EA just puts them back on it post-rebrand.

Ignore.

FIA is under new management with Saudis so big changes are expected. and Liberty Media has been doing good stuff in promoting F1 compared to Merc dominant snoozefest.
It will be in good hands. Saudi's seems obsessed with making F1 work.

crushed noo GIF

Was hoping someone with talent and actually gave a damn about a sport would get a shot

I'm surprised because it doesn't look like this game is performing well on PSN or Steam.
It has a higher alltime peak on Steam than F1 24 & 23 so it bounced back. Also 89% positive reviews.

It's not a sales hit by any means, but the series isn't hitting new lows.

I'm not sure beating F1 23 and 24 by a thousand or so peak is a real accomplishment. It's certainly not a franchise high either.

F1 is a massive global brand so to not be doing better is a major question mark. Maybe they think they can address that in the next couple of years, but I'll say they're not doing themselves any favors by making moves like excluding PSVR2 support and no announcement of a Switch 2 port.

But like I said, maybe they feel like they're moving in the right direction with it.

They may also be hoping for some boost from the F1 movie and it's not a coincidence that they've locked the movie-related scenarios behind a paid upgrade. ;)

The most important thing in my opinion is stability. F1 24 was getting a lot more negative reception from the players and they are long-time customers you can suddenly lose.

Something tells me it will be lazily maintained on a F25 engine with a limited crew, because I can't fathom how EA will properly treat the big F1 regulations shift in 2026 (new cars and new rules) even with full Codemasters at the helm.

In short, I don't expect quality games. But I guess Liberty Media doesn't have a fallback partner and both sides just settled on a current deal option.

who is making it with Codemasters getting shut down? Veilguard team?
I believe it's only their main office in Southam that shut down (or rebranded their jobs page lists them as "EA Studios - DCS" now) and Codemasters Cheshire was already merged with Criterion 2 years ago, the F1 games are made by Codemasters Birmingham which still seems to be open.

We almost never get a denial like this. That doesn't bode well and is more in line with my earlier expectations.

They're probably still negotiating and observing the sales of F1 25.

If they just wanted to announce something with PR later, they wouldn't need to deny anything. There's also the fate of Codemasters and probably not giving them false hope that their jobs are secure.

Not to mention simulation games like these are huge on PC. That's why the PC versions of F1 always have VR, path tracing and other neat exclusive features but not on consoles.

Don't really believe it. With all the rumors of Codemasters closing and F1 losing 40% of its sales year-on-year, it would take a miracle to continue.

I normally don't buy yearly sports games but I picked up F1 25 on PC for the amazing path tracing (new racing graphics king) and on the assumption it will be Codemaster's last. Don't regret the purchase as it's a solid game.
