I was deeply disappointed by it. I'm not really an open world fan so that was already a strike against it. Add to that the obnoxious music and the terrible story/characters and there just wasn't enough for me to invest myself in it.
(And Xenoblade Chronicles was my favorite JRPG of last gen too.)
Almost exactly how I feel. Admittedly I'm not the biggest JRPG; narrative tropes and design style of the genre are generally lost on me outside of the odd game here and there (I enjoyed them more when I was younger), but Xenoblade resonated with me in a magical way. I loved the setting and the characters, the mission pacing, the gorgeous soundtrack complimenting incredible vistas. It seemed like a JRPG of old with some modern QOL trimmings.
X never clicked or resonated, no matter how hard I tried. It seemed almost Inquisition-like in its grindy, faxu MMO formulaic questing and levelling. Great graphics, but a personality and guts I don't find appealing. Hated the soundtrack, felt disconnected from the characters and story.
Oh well.
