kyoani doing a musical show? never thought i'd see the day!

Unfortunately not.

Trying to catch up with the thread and reading this reminds me of earlier where someone was saying that Makoto Shinkai was a pretentious hack because his movies had detailed visuals but more simplistic themed stories to go with them. It essentially came across that only movies with complex narratives were allowed to have complex visuals and simplistic stories should have simplistic visuals otherwise you're work is pretentious.
pretentious is a real dumb way of saying "needs to hire a good writer"

What I hate most about Shinkai is his fanbase really, because they hype his work too much and never acknowledge the flaws. They're also pretty simplistic when it comes to production values, highly detailed backgrounds is what catches their eye, dismissing the quality of character animation. I think they're the sort of people who'd dismiss beautifully handpainted backgrounds as inferior to what you can find in Shinkai's movies.

Took a break from Planetes and watched The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya. Great movie, but too damned long. I don't get the ending though
So he has to fix the world twice? But it looked fixed at the end.
And then there's the scene after the credits with
Nagato sitting in the library all alone.
What's the significance of that?

Well I can't say I'm surprised.

Yeah but its like 50-50.. goddamn man, choke so hard. So scared to read DTL's post, I'm frustated already. LMAO

Shit is biggest lose scenario in sport show, even counting all the choke in Major.

Furuya at superstardom at 2nd year won't let this happen ;________;

Well, it's been a long time since I set foot in here.

More to the point, at Dakkumauji's and another friend's behest I started Season 2 of Free. (I stopped midway through the first one because I hated the central plot).

Free! S2e1.

While it's still a smidge too serious for my taste, the conflict this time doesn't feel nearly as forced, and Rin seems like less of an insufferable putz.
Nagisa, Rei and Makoto don't seem to get much of any focus, though. I hope that isn't indicative of their role in the rest of the season.

They all get their significant charadevelopment episodes this season

The first 15 minutes or so were fun and I'm glad it didn't feel like anything but just a very good spectacle between friends. Everything after that is a rollercoaster of highs and just pure garbage. I don't think I've ever seen such a contrived and idiotic sequences of dialogue in my life. Like... it was terribad especially Rin and Archer's dialogue at the Tohsaka mansion.

I feel like this entire season was a visual wonder but there were many things I just didn't enjoy. The liberal use of CG wasn't enjoyable especially during the sequences of magic minions and magic backgrounds. It just felt like the solid art of the characters and certain drawn objects didn't mesh at all. The story wasn't very good and the pacing was crap. Nothing of note happened and it felt like there was no character development at all. Even though not much happened in Fate/Zero, you felt like there was some progress made when characters were being developed. Here, you spend almost all the time with Shirou and they are the exact same as they were when we first started. The fuck?

The Illusion at the end was legit though. End.

Yeeeeeep. Feels.

Speculation:
Vertex' arent a real threat. Shinju sama keeps making them to harvest sacrifices to keep itself alive. Theres no way out until you're pretty much like that girl in the hospital bed. But they keep you alive cause theyre dickbags.

Twin Tails end

Meh. Why did I watch this all the way through?

I feel like the show lost all the crazy funness after Dark Grasper showed up. It was pretty ridiculous in a good way until then.

Fate Stay Night - Episode 6

I got the impression from GAF that people weren't enjoying this, though I'm not sure why. Its super tropey with the highschool setting which is unfortunate, and it gets up its own ass sometimes, but Fate Zero did that too. Regardless, I'm having fun with it. Solid action, at the very least.

It does feel a lot different than Fate/Zero, I'll admit. Maybe thats why some people have been turned off? But as far as highscool students with super powers go, I'd probably put it towards the higher end of the scale. Fate Zero was better, so far - but FSN is still enjoyable mostly.

As a VN reader I don't have a lot to say here since well I already knew everything that was going to happen. Did enjoy some of the scene differences from the VN though. Was glad to see Kotomine in action and wrecking shit like he is known to do. New ED song and visuals were awesome.

Most importantly though the real meat of this story starts in April and I look forward to it.

I haven't been doing much posting recently, though I've stayed current on everything I care about. Just gonna quickly run some stuff down, besides Bahamut which I mentioned earlier.

Fate/Stay Night

I told myself earlier I wouldn't drop it just because, but then I fell a few episodes behind and I didn't want to catch up, so I guess it's dropped.

Shirobako

My favorite show of the season. The finale was excellent, and I think the show has lived up to what it promised early on, developing most of the ensemble cast over the course of chronicling the production of the show and Aoi's own development. Though it's rarely flashy, it's really effective at capturing the highs and lows of production, and the struggle of finding one's own path through life in adulthood. I really got swept up in those clips of the finale that we saw.

Parasyte

While the way this part of the show revolved around that silly love triangle with its silly female characters, I think most of the motivations in the show were pretty justified. I'm not even noticing the sound direction anymore, and Madhouse is still bringing it when they need to in terms of animation. The plotting is great so far, and I like how the end of this arc seems it will lead smoothly into new dangers for Shinichi and Migi. It's a really solid show.

Lupin III: The Gravestone of Jigen Daisuke

This was a lot of fun. A lot of that end reveal plotting was pretty silly, but hey, it's Lupin. The art direction here is fantastic, a step above the occasionally excellent work in Fujiko, and this individual tale captured tonally the highs of its predecessor. It's a fun, tense caper, with an extremely capable adversary. The car chase at the end of the first part was probably the biggest highlight.

Wonder

I don't know how to describe this, but it's really incredible. Mizue Mirai always does very abstract work, and this is among the most dynamic I've seen, constantly shifting and transforming before your eyes. It's colorful and astoundingly alive, and each time before you've even gotten acclimated to whatever bizarre lifeforms in front of you, they've already changed into another incredible creation. It's a pretty awesome watch, if you can track it down.

Great episode which had some fun moments in the beginning with the dating stuff. I've always liked Caster and her scene with Shirou was good as it has tons of good points against Shirou's own beliefs. The moment for me was the verbal smackdown that Rin had on Shirou. It's a way to keep him safe but it clearly shows how weak Shirou is in this whole scenario as your friend who saved your life doesn't even want your help because you're so powerless. Great stuff with a great end song. Can't wait until April. Shit gets real in the second half.

I still am very disappointed that the creatures in Parasyte all look the same when they attack and that they no longer have cool The Thing designs to each one like in the first episode. But I guess that's from the manga itself so I can't blame Madhouse on that.

Yuki Yuna Is A Hero 10

Haha holy shit. I did not expect that at all.

My predictions about Togo were correct but what boggles me is how did she
figure out her last name was Wasshi before? Its like she has knew out of nowhere.

Also, hard not to draw parallels to Madoka's episode 10. Which changed everything.

I'm pumped for the last two episodes.

Yeah and I am glad we still have 12 more ep's of Shirobako to go so I have one solid show for sure for next season. (I am already pretty sure on a few others that start next season but I got a solid carryover to start with :)) P.A. Works is really solid with the original anime plot for the most part and I can always count on solid animation.

Happiness Charge Precure! 46

Felt like an in-between kind of episode, but an enjoyable one. A scene where Gondor (or Precure) calls for aid will never not get the emotions running. I thought Maria's cards had been destroyed, but miracles can happen. I'm also looking forward to GoPri. It's shaking up the formula in some new ways.

Fate/stay night UBW 12 + First Half Thoughts

Ooh, a new version of "THIS ILLUSION"/"disillusion". That certainly makes the ending feel a little more special. I can't really give my final thoughts until the show actually finalizes, but I don't have too much of a problem with it so far. F/Z was written as a response to it, but it can be read as a response to F/Z just as much. The Spring schedule is looking quite packed, and this story shall continue when the time comes.

So much time for Kingdom Hearts 2, so little time for anime!

This music reminds me that of Baccano! So this might be pretty good!

Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu - 10

After training a team of hopeless rugby players, Sousuke now moves on to train a gang of hopeless Yakuza members. As Bonta-kun. The jokes just write themselves.

Also, Chidori gets kidnapped again in this episode. Her reaction:

Man this show is so good.

Yuki Yuna Is A Hero 11-12 END

Well, that was a deus ex machina in its truest form. But I'm glad they went for the
happy ending otherwise I would have had to punch my monitor. Not a big fan of despair porn.
I have no idea how or why
they got their abilities back,
but at this point, whatever.

I liked the plot twist but it took too long to get interesting. Liked how the ending animation changed, like twice.

KyoAni made feet anime before this?

In 5 years time people will be complaining about feet ruining anime, noting how they didn't have to deal with this in the 90s

In 15 years time people will be complaining about what supplanted feet and cite Otaking's 5-Toe Teikoku as an example of the good ol' days.
