Fate/Stay Night - episode 12

Dead. Please call ambulance.
At least we now know what you fetish is !!!
They need to make an anime of the Microsoft girls.

Would want but i expect a lot of "service packs"

Ping Pong - 02-05

Wonder why Smile knows Chinese. Him hearing Kong's coach during the game wasn't good for him. I didn't expect Kong to be out this early. I thought he'd stick around as Smile's rival to the end. I like Kong so I hope he comes back.
I almost didn't recognize Peco after his defeat. Poor Demon, all that hard work to be ruled out by talent.

who's talking shit about Macs? Macs are the best! No viruses, they look good, and errrrrr.....it has.....I regret everything. All that money wasted ;___;

Parasyte episode 12

I'm loving this adaptation. This will definitely be my anime of the year.

I just hope Shinichi gets over his existential crisis....I mean he was crying when it happened.

THANK YOU BASED XEBEC!

This adaption of the Yui cellphone/honey was outstanding.

Honestly, this may very well be one of the best instances of an already stellar manga chapter being improved in almost every way for its anime counterpart.

And considering this was originally done by our lord and savior Yabuki, its really saying something.

Log Horizon 13

Holy shit, Serara's voice somehow sounds even more cute. I didn't think that was possible. Romantic centered episode so I wasn't really interested that much.

What was that scene at the end? I thought Kureha was the guild leader of some super dangerous guild? Was there a coup, did I miss something?

Location change next episode should be cool.

Shin Sekai Yori / From The New World (Rewatch)

I think I loved it more on my rewatch. My little brother was completely engrossed so we ended up marathoning the series in like 2 days haha.

My favorite aspect of this show is the atmosphere. It really makes you feel like youre in the middle of an alien world all alone. I mentioned this in my original thoughts but a survival horror game based on this would have been dope. I loved seeing
the ruins of Tokyo and how it was overrun with mutated nightmare creatures.
The tension and suspenseful buildup is also done really well. I was on the edge of my seat in the
hospital episode with the ogre.
Was such a "ohcrapohcrapohcrap" moment.

I loved the story, watching the characters grow and learning more about the society and how things came to be. Fuck Mamoru though. Its just unfortunate that the animation in some parts were disastrous. The show can look absolutely lovely when it wants to but there were a few blemishes along the way.

One thing I never understood was that a lot of people said the show took a dip in the last arc. I personally thought it was the best arc in the show.
Shun suddenly reappearing and talking to Saki was a weird plot hole but aside from that, from the timeskip until the end,
the show is just one amazing ride.

Its a slow burn but its well worth the investment.

Their dialogue seemed to suggest that there was a coup, but it has to have happened before she even appeared in the series, considering how Shiroe's words at the end of season 1 (about helping her more as an enemy than an ally) only make sense now that we know what kind of "allies" she has.

Shin Sekai Yori / From The New World (Rewatch)

I should probably rewatch this series too... because it did nothing for me the first time through.

I don't get the love for the series, it all seemed so ordinary, bland, and predictable. After the episode with the
library creature
I thought, "Oh man, shit's gonna get real. REVEAL YOUR SECRETS TO MEEEEE!" and was disappointed by everything that followed. I found nothing it had to offer particularly surprising or interesting, just a lot of, "Alright, yup. And?"

So yeah, got that one on the rewatch list, maybe a second time through it'll have more impact.

Did you finish it all the way?

I think the show would have been more predictable if I had to wait a week for each episode. I just marathoned it both times so I didnt really have any time to make any speculation.

If you didnt like it the first time, you probably wont on a second watch. It takes a decent amount to get going.

Fate/Stay Night UBW - Prologue, Episode 1
Decided to jump in on this, even though its not done airing. I've heard mixed things. I guess the obvious thing is that the animation is incredible. Easily on par with Korra. Those fight scenes in the first two episodes were great.

But okay, that was obvious.

I was surprised at how different it feels. So much more light hearted. F/SN was very serious most of the time. Honestly, I'm ok with this as it made the show more enjoyable. Characters had personality. Characters were cracking jokes. The first episode wasn't just a twenty minute exposition dump like in F/Z. And I enjoyed the nods to the original show.

But I did have some issues. Mainly: the high school setting, dear god why. F/Z may have taken place in japan but at least it wasn't centred around a fucking highschool. Oh and that monotone side character? Fuck her. But at least she is just a side character. Oh and I don't think the word "Senpai" was used nearly enough. If I don't hear it ever 30 seconds I get ansy.

Overall, it was enjoyable. Its a shame about the setting being focused around a higschool. Such a shame. But I can tolerate it, at least for one more anime.

But I swear no more after that.

You clearly need to watch Strike the Blood then. Oh and the frequency of "Senpai" declines to the point of being non existent lately.

. Fuck Mamoru though.

Someone certainly did.

Sly dog.

I think episodes 18-21 were the best of the show but
the whole detour to Tokyo was anticlimactic and not done very well.

So yeah apparently the BDs for Unlimited Blade Works will contain approximately 90 mins of cut content, so lol.

That sounds like a colossal waste of money. Ufotable must be swimming in Yens.

Inko is now protag of Aldnoah Zero? BAW GOD...

But motherfuckers won't let it happen.

Along with Rayet she seems to be the focus on the earth side. Which means the writers will have enough time to ruin her with their bullshit.

I've already seen the first episode but didn't continue. Re-watching to re-familiarize myself with the setting and characters. That punch is still the best.

Sabagebu! 01

How intimate. This is some weird gun porn. I didn't know it was possible to take revengance on breasts.

Ronja, The Robber's Daughter 01 & 02

This feels like a children's fairy book tale. The characters all have exaggerated personalities much like those found in other fairy tales (Snow White and the Seven Dwarves comes to mind). Ronja's father is extremely doting upon her to the point where he dismisses those around him to fulfil his fatherly duty. Of course none of his compatriots dare set him straight as he is the boss. Ronja's mother seems to be the only one with her head screwed on straight.

The CG while not overly appealing isn't distracting or ugly. Of course nothing will ever surpass the perfection that is Reboot.

D-Gray Man Episode 47-51

Man did I feel bad for the little girl who just became a Exorcist, to only lose that title when Lulu Bell destroyed her Innocence. The worst part is the girl was so determined to be a Exorcist, even if it meant going into dangerous territory. It was nice seeing Lenalee trying to make the little girl feel better.

Then again for plot reasons it was a good idea for her Innocence to be destroyed as it was a bit OP. In that it could tell the future of any attacks or actions giving a huge boost to the Exorcist's arsenal.

Anyways the plot seems to be moving forward as Allen's Team is heading towards Edo Japan in a Ship. It seems a huge load of Akuma's are gonna attack the ship.

I'm really liking D-Gray Man's anime so far. Also Lenalee's the best.

Well this happened much faster than I expected it to. Julia's true nature is exposed not only to her Romeo but to his Kifuuken brothers too.

Have to wonder what is the deal with that monkey. Maybe it plays the same role the three animals in Kyousougiga did.

Spice and Wolf 1

Nude wolves going forward, Lawrence is strangely dense around Chloe.

Other than that, not a high school SoL anime, so there's something.

I'll definitely write up a series review soon, just thinking back on it makes me regret not watching this when it aired. The "worst" or most not satisfying arc to me was the
monster rat/queerat war during episodes 5-7.
As for the ending itself, the build-up to the
detour to Tokyo
was definitely great, the ending itself was alright, kind of a let-down though compared to the build-up previously.

A quick question for people who know more about this stuff than I do. I've just finished watching The Devil is a Part-timer anime and I very much enjoyed it. I just looked into the manga and it doesn't appear to be as far ahead as what I just watched. Did the anime take from just the light novels for its adaptation or did it kinda do its own thing in the latter half?

Log Horizon Season 2 Ep 13

Wow. This episode -- what I thought would be completely useless filler -- was absolutely not. It served as a solid transition episode. Talks about Kanami, Tetra and how the rest of the guild is warming up to him/her, plant hwyaden, Crusty's disappearance, and continued world building. This show continues to be awesome and my most anticipated show each week.

Giovanni's Island

Japan just after WW2, a pair of kids as protagonists... will it be a drama?

That's how I started this movie, thinking if it would turn into a tearful tragedy. Shades of grave of fireflies, with that premise. But the beginning of the movie isn't so bad, it's actually pretty interesting. Russians take a little Japanese island (I suppose it's one of the ones that are kind in the middle of Japan and Russia) now that Japan surrendered, trying to settle it with their own troop's families.

That first half of the movie is very decent, as you don't know how the russians and Japanese will mesh, you have the ever present menace of the soldiers, there is a subplot between the dad and the uncle of the kids with some family drama about what to do in their situation, the villagers trying to get food and risking detention, while the protagonist is fascinated by the very pretty Russian girl who occupied his home, having a friendship-incipient love relation.

Then we have the second half, which is where the idiot ball starts rolling. And finally the drama, because you knew this wouldn't be as easy and happy in a postwar setting. Which is kind of funny, because the Russians aren't caricatured as the bad guys, and they don't really are the primary active cause of said drama (well they kind of are, as the deportation done by them is what causes everything, but it was in a more impersonal way), in fact they help a pair of times to the Japanese characters, the drama is on the back of the protagonists.
Starting with the grandfather that chooses to die in the island instead of leaving it, even if that means leaving the duty of taking care of the children to people outside the family (the teacher) when the father wasn't there.
Then the uncle is somehow involved is the father being detained (they never clarified it, in fact this subplot ended here, a pity).
The kids escape to see the father in prison, even if they are in Russian, in winter, snowing, with the little kid already sick, without a clear idea of where is the prison, without any plan of how to actually see the father once there and without a plan to return back. It's understandable for the little brother, but the bigger one deserved a good spanking.
Then the teacher (who is in love with the father and therefore it isn't capable of thinking straight) supports the children idea instead of doing said spanking.
Then even if there are soldiers in the way they still choose to push forward, risking being shot. In fact the uncle survived by the writer's compassion.
End result: little brother dead. And you know, it seems no one feels guilty, the fuckers. You never know if he would have died anyway or it was the travel the final aggravation, but I will think bad of them.
The victory of the protagonist isn't saving his brother no, it's getting his corpse on the boat back to Japan. Yeah, you kill him and then feel good because you could bury it in Nippon's soil. Btw, the uncle was incredibly nonchalant when he noticed he was dead.

Summary: idiot kid character do idiot things, one get killed, tearful drama, credits. The postwar setting is really a bit of window dressing, if you are going to have a character being idiot, he can die for it in any kind of setting.

TLDR: it jumped the shark, they shouldn't have left the island.

Ping Pong - 01 - 11 [FINAL]

Damn, what a strong finish. If nothing else i had to watch it for the AOTY voting and with its brisk pace and just 11 episodes I've finished it in 2 days. Great little story with good characters and some darned creative animation quality. Sure, the art style isn't s.th. you'd consider visually attractive on first sight but overall the technicality was there (well, a few times it looked too low detail, even if purposely so) and creativity allowed for some amazing sequences. The metaphors were usually really well implemented and I loved Smiles going 'robot' here and there.

Loved this comedic relief guy:

Probably not my top AOTY but somewhere up there. Nice OP and ED, too.

Ping Pong - 06-11 [End]

I don't have much to say really. This was quite the enjoyable ride, the last two episodes were really great. Peco and Kong were probably my favorite characters, with Dragon as a close contender.
The art style wasn't for me. Sometimes it worked in the shows favor, but overall it didn't appeal to me. Soundtrack was a positive surprise.
7/10

So I decided to go ahead and starting reading the Parasyte manga and I have to say the female characters are much, much better. From how they look to how they act just... lol. Also the show missed a critical moment that explains why Kana finds Shinichi so interesting.
