Coming from Facebook, youtube, fansites, and walking into this thread as someone who can't wait for the movie has been quite a... contrasting experience, I would say. This really seems to be the only place where people don't like the trailer in general. So weird. I feel left out in this thread. :(

I like it.
Will be interesting to see a Potter story made for cinema without me constantly making book comparisons in my mind.

Still don't know what the movie (and the trilogy) will actually be about beyond the basic premise. But that's not a bad thing for me because I'm already sold on the movie anyway.

I note a distinct lack of fantastic beasts in that trailer.

Seems like this skews towards an older audience, with all the emphasis on intrigue.

This looks awesome to me. I love the historical era style they're doing.

I even liked the Harry Potter theme coming back.

Don't I know it!

Really interested to see how Rowling is as a screenwriter. I'm sure she'll do well as she understands storytelling and structure but a script is a different thing in some ways.
As long as she doesn't have the characters spend an inordinate amount of time in a remote location bickering, I think it'll be okay.

Probably, and it makes sense. The original core audience for Harry Potter has all grown up, so something a little older skewed (while still being viable with children) would be smart.

For sure, but I think she probably learned a lot with the Potter films, both from the experience as a whole and directly from Steve Kloves (who helped Rowling with her screenplay and also has a producer credit).

Looks like we will be getting an adorable hedgehog/mole sidekick thing, cool. Didn't know I wanted that.

I'll skip on reading the analysis tho.

Thought it looked awesome :) Didn't really give much away, but gave a nice sense of the setting and intrigue - just what I wanted from a teaser! Also that music, much feels etc.

Should probably not trust the 7-11 security cameras quite so much
It looks visually bland like all the Yates films but I'm excited to see the world outside Hogwarts and Britain.

Looks like a short TV series about a wizard in NY. Not what I'd imagined, but hopefully future trailers will be more convincing.

Before Potter David Yates was a TV director and it still shows in all his films, they have a very flat look and lack visual personality. He doesn't really know what to do with the camera or lighting.

It's not this one I'm worried about it's the next two that WB is going to push her to write and finish ASAP

Really liked this trailer. I'm a fan of the books, but only recently started to appreciate the films too (I saw the first one in cinema's and swore afterwards to not go and see one ever again, but recentlly caught up on blu ray and enjoyed most of them despite their flaws). This has the bonus of being a written-for-the-screen story, and not an adaptation (I found that the movies weren't always brave enough to let the books go to make the screenplay better, resulting in some structural problems)

Just a shame they cast Eddie Redmayne though. I have a big love-hate relationship with him. He could be the perfect fit here, but goddamn sometimes I want to smack him in those big watery eyes and pouty lips so bad :D

As....mixedly received Chris Columbus' HP1 and 2 are, I really missed the childish tone of the first two films. Stepping into the theatre at the right age felt like you were invited into hogwars itself with all the magic and music. This particular trailer looks very Hollywoody (grim, horns, etc) but yeah no reason to not watch it!

I would have preferred Alfonso Cuarón for his distinct visual style, but David Yates is a fine choice. It can't be as bad the first two Harry Potter films.

Terry Gilliam should have directed those movies. Chris Columbus was a bad choice.

Gilliam hasn't made a good movie in two decades. Columbus was the perfect choice for what are essentially children movies. Cuarón would've been THE choice though for this, but apparently he rejected the offer.

Regarding Yates, I thought his Potter movies were just too lifeless and dour for their own good. Cuarón strook the perfect balance.

This is from St. George's Hall in Liverpool. It's a stunning building, it used to be a courthouse and on one of the floors below that, there are several jail cells.

It may just be the screenshot but it seems that the guests aren't actually in the same place and were put in with special effects. This may be the case because the floor is tiled and worth millions, it's covered up for months at a time.

What? The first two at least had some sense of a style and setup the whole universe. Yates movies are bland as all hell. Literally nothing memorable about them. If you hadn't read the books then you were watching a bore fest. A shame Alfonso is too successful now to come back and save us from Yates. If J.K. wasn't attached to this I would have zero interest due to Yates.

To my mind the title will always be Fantastic Breasts.

I counted zero fantastic breasts in the trailer.

I keep reading this as "Fantastic Breasts and where to find them" and thinking it's a porn movie

I read that title as "Fantastic Breasts and Where to Find Them"...I've had a bit of a dry spell lately.

And to think they were considering Kate Upton for a role hahaha. You people need a GF or something.

Anyway, I loved the trailer. I really ought to finish the HP films, but this seems so much better for me.

Gonna have to watch it with audio when I get home from work, but it 'looked' good skimming through. I love the franchise in general so this is just fan-service for me. Can't wait.

Chris Columbus having style? He's the blandest studio director you could find, and the first two are just generic family movies.
First of all, key word is "some".He did the job he was suppose to do. He created the template and got out of there. And then there is Yates who had the most story to work with and turned it into a bland sleep fest. Don't even get me started on Part 2. That was an impressive achievement to make that boring.

Let's not pretend that anyone other than Cuaron actually got it right. Columbus was too saccharine and Yates far too dull. Prisoner of Azkaban is the only one that really makes the magical world feel real without making it boring.

With the benefit of hindsight, Potter 1 isn't a very good movie at all, mainly because the kids are wack ass actors then

They got better in 2, were real good in 3, and settled into their groove in 4

The first two Harry Potter films feel like they could have been directed by a robot. Almost all of the heavy lifting is done by the original story, the production design, and John Williams' score.

No one is disagreeing with that?

I think Yates did a very good job. Very moody, obviously, but that suited the material.

Then came Yates and ruined the series. Andhe gets to direct this as well :/

I love the Harry Potter books but I really can't stand the movies. Still, I'll have to see this because it's Rowling writing in that universe.

Trailer didn't show much but yeah, I'll see it regardless.
