Since that interview with the writer and director of the movie came out yesterday and both said they were adapting the fucking book for the movie. In fact, that's been known for fucking MONTHS.

And yes, I am saying it's not all that different - to the material they're adapting. Just because its material you like doesn't mean it's not faithful to it.

"Source" material, not reinterpreted garbage made for kids "adaption". Maybe we have differing uses of language in this instance. Again, trying to move on from silly side tracking arguments. Even the crap that is ultimates didn't go as far as they are going in changes as far as I can tell from what has been said/shown.

Alrighty then, so in other words not worth debating. I suppose there are four of them, pretty faithful.

Watched it again, it's getting me really hyped for the movie. It's nice to see something different for a change, there's actually a sense of danger and not just superheros kicking bad guy's butts.

What was that light beam at the end?

trailer in summary

random tracking shots of wilderness, mountains, buildings, cities
somber voice over with writing so laughable it would not make it into a Ultimate Fantastic Four fanfiction
images of people's faces looking really concerned at the camera
trademark experiment gone wrong scene
few brief glimpses of anything even remotely superheroic

Even if the guy writing this movie wasn't a joke character, I'd feel really bad after seeing this junk
Most of the Antman teaser was pointless, and occasionally completely discernible, random pans. It was a baaaaad teaser. At least this has some coherency. And hey, some of the cinematography looks pretty schweet. Antman also had a damned cheesy voiceover too.

And I kinda liked the voice in this teaser so sue me

Ant-Man teaser was definition of "eh".

Reg E. Cathey's voice is pure sex, it's just the writing that was a bit bland.

I thought that was fairly decent for a teaser. While I know little about the F4 comics, I like them enough as characters (and Doom is a great villain btw) and I like Trank enough to root for him here since it seemed like so much was against him. Hopefully the next trailer isn't too far off and shows some more.

I really like this shot.

oh wow. mighty chin's a fan i see.

Personal opinion, it wasn't a terrible teaser. It was better than Antmans which I didn't like and could very well be a big swing and a miss for MCU.

But this trailer doesn't convince me that they have any fucking clue as to what they are doing.

it really doesn't look that far off from Ultimate FF

but i am of the opinion that adapting ultimate ff just shows how off-point they are in the first place.

looks like a decent sci fi action movie, just not the FF movie i want

I really like this shot.

Favorite shot of the trailer. I love how understated it is. It's not some cgi-laden 360 rotation over his body as he ignites.

Of course, we COULD get that shot the first time he "changes" or however they explain it, but still, I really like it.

That shot actually kinda reminds me of Watchmen, for some reason. Don't know why.

I've watched it a dozen times. What danger did you see?

Most of the action scenes seem to be of them struggling to stay alive. There's also the exploration and unknown aspect, they venture into new territry where no one has been before with unknown threats.

It makes me curious to see what they discover there.

Much better than the Ant-Man trailer, which isn't saying much 'cause I thought both were shit. I'm intrigued, to say the least.

Imagine if F4 ends up better than Ant-Man. Oh the schadenfreude.

jon bones

hot hot hanuman-on-man action

it's entirely in the realm of probability, Ant-Man has had a troubled production and the teaser wasn't particularly interesting. as far as this trailer misses the tone of the FF, it isn't actually bad.

remember: whether or not this movie is good is irrelevant. all that matters is that it bombs financially and gets thrown into the X-Men TV rights deal and goes back to the MCU.

i'd take a 70% RT MCU FF movie that's on tone and introduces Doom & Galactus into the MCU vs a 95% RT Fox FF movie that misses the tone of the source material.

Why is there a black guy in fantastic 4, is that a thing now?

hmm

in terms of following the source material, sure. but the film that the trailer is promising is more interesting than a conventional adaptation to me.

who knows though, marketing can be misleading too. but before today i sorta didn't give a shit about this movie and now i'm kind of looking forward to it.

I keep seeing this same sentiment in this thread.
Well I'm not going to lie. I've read issues of course but overall I know little about the comics and their arcs and other villains besides Doom. I know their importance to comics and I respect the characters. Purely speaking about a teaser for a movie about what I know I thought it was decent even if it were more serious than fans would like. I don't blame them for feeling that way either.

That's exactly why I like it too and now I'm seeing Watchmen too but not sure why. Color palette maybe?

Do the characters getting surface-level changes to their gender / race / whatever really affect that much? I mean, if someone like Magneto got changed to being an out-of-shape Chilean elementary school kickball coach, that'd be one thing, but the characters really don't have any major baggage tied to their demographics in this case.

Yes, it's a thing. Filmmakers like to hire good actors.

So... how is it supossed to fit in the story? he's adopted? His father slept with a black woman?

If they want to change Johnny Storm race at least be decent and change the sister race or is that to much of diversity?

lol how dare they let black people into movies

hey we don't really have the REAL red skull back in action in 616 yet right? maybe we get ultimate red skull as a permanent replacement.

There is always a Red Skull in the wings. Dude has escaped certain death more than Wonder Man.

It wasn't bad and I'm actually interested in some of the things I saw. I might be eating crow on this one although it is too early to tell.

Man, that was cheesy as hell. I suppose we have to put up with the super melodramatic trailer style for a bit longer until it has run its course.

Does it matter what color either of them are? They are step siblings.

One of the entire core concepts of FF4 is they are their own little adopted family. Having a literal adoption be involved doesn't change that.

I'm sad this doesn't look like it'll be a superhero movie but I like Trank and am interested in his vision - just not with the FF license. At least it's different...

All these "I'd rather have a good movie than a faithful adaptation" posts

How about a movie that's both good AND faithful to its source material? What a novel idea.

Yes, black people can act now.

As can white people last I checked, and other races.

So they made background and story differences to the source material to what... ? Were they hiring, and casting anyone which lead them to find the best actor then made the changes to the story and character backgrounds? Is that likely? Or did an executive say they "need a black guy", as if he is a commodity, yet people get touchy and defensive when others question that change. A film seemingly made from demographics and poll data. Maybe off base, but seeing behind the veil at other studios that doesn't sound too plausible.

I think the joke here is that its source material isn't good.

I am going to build armor fueled by the salt Black Panther will cause to flow.

shotty co-pilot Pacific Rim style

Trank and Jordan are friends, and Johnny Storm's personality is pretty inside Jordan's wheelhouse, hence the casting.
