Final Fantasy VII PC re-release. SE Store Exclusive - Out now, Internet required

I've played Final Fantasy VII on the PC for years myself. That doesn't mean, however, that I'm not excited to be capable of downloading and having it on my library through Steam at any time. Steam is a very convenient and fast downloading service that I do trust. Not to mention it will be loads of fun to show off having loads and load of hours clocked in to Final Fantasy VII.

It's also about time some some more jRPGs hit Steam. I've dreamed of the PC becoming a haven for jRPGs and other Japanese style video games that never usually see the platform. Things like this keep me hopeful that it might not just be a pipe dream.

Which I'm fairly certain they'll eventually do, put it on Steam.

I'll probably see if I can pick it up when I have money... though probably after I've bought a couple of games off of Steam and GoG, including the first three Tomb Raider games.

All joking about them hyping a late 90s PC PS1 port re-packaging aside...

Does anyone have a list of the Achievements?

And wouldn't the cheats...I mean "character boosting" defeat the purpose of Achievements?
I'm guessing since this isn't Steam Achievements, it's "local only" and only you can view them.

I'd assume using the booster would disable achievements. And they probably have some way of displaying them, the site says you can "share your profile" so they're not local only.

What the hell does it need 2GHz and a gig of RAM for? :|

Either they made a very overly generous estimate, or they really did do a lot of updates to the graphics, and the "requirements" aren't actually so much requirements, but suggested components for running the game on the highest settings.

I loved the FFVII PC port back in the day on my 3Dfx (diamond monster 3d for life). I'll probably dive in on this unless something catastrophic happens to the port between now and release.

You don't need to use Steamworks to publish on Steam.

There's also nothing saying that it's not supporting steamworks. Exclusive to the Squeenix Store, even initially, could just mean that it'll be sold as steam keys. /optimism

Replaying Final Fantasy XII right now on a 720p television with component cables on the PS2 in widescreen mode and I swear Final Fantasy XII looks less pixelated than Xenoblade Chronicles on the same television. Final Fantasy XII runs at 480i and Xenoblade Chronicles at 480p.

I think Final Fantasy XII would look fantastic in HD.

Would love it if they did an HD remake for PS3/Vita, especially if Matsuno could be wrangled on board for some final Director's Cut tweaks.

Never played VII (or any mainline FF for that matter). I'll be sure to pick this up sometime next year when I get a PC, given I don't forget its existence.

Bummed that there's not a Mac version. FFVII is already out on PC, lol.

Well, with achievements, there's finally going to be a reason to get those useless items, like the little soldier dolls, right?

Probably right. I don't get the point of achievements though. Who is there to share them with. I mean if it was steamworks I understand but...

I was about to post this. I don't see why achievements would matter if there's no service to compare them with others.

I guess it pushes you to do side stuff, but it just seems... useless.

Has there ever been a Steamworks game that hasn't appeared in the Steam Store also?

Ahh, the "I only buy from Steam" crowd are back again, i see.

Unbelievable. It's almost like Square don't want to give 30% of the money away for nothing.

How dare they!?

Does the extra 30% per sale from their own store make up for the number of sales they could have gotten from selling it on Steam's store as well, though?

Honestly some of you have expectations so far away from earth that they can't even be found with the world's best telescopes

They why rerelease it on PC when you could just play it on you PS3? Or you your Vita? Or In HD with ePSXe? For achievements that people cant see (because of no steam)?
