Final Fantasy VII PC re-release. SE Store Exclusive - Out now, Internet required

This is what I ran the original PC version on, and it doesn't seem like they've done anything to it.

I'm sure the attachments overlay and the cloud saving feature take more resources. They probably didn't really see the point in trying to get this stuff to run on a Pentium 233. Also, I HOPE the music is now much higher bit-rate than the MIDI of the original version. This may take some extra juice too.

I'm not saying this will all take what they recommend, but It would take more than the original specs.

Oh my Goodness I can actually post. I waited months for this. So many topics I missed out on and had to lurk but couldn't post, but oh well, yay! Oh wait I shouldn't be commenting on this maybe. Don't be mad and me or revoke my privileges please.;_;

Well, I heard about them reworking the PC version of Final Fantasy VII a long time ago. And I thought it was a great idea, especially as long as they made look better then what the emulation folks are doing.

The PC version of the game is super rare and the original port wasn't that great. It really needed an update, especially considering how the older version isn't (very) compatible with newer Windows, and kind of rare. When it is so successful on the PlayStation Network, it only makes sense to do this.

But an exclusive to the Square store, really? That's going to cut profits and keep it out of people's eyes a lot. The best bet would be to put it on Steam. And maybe some other platforms like Good Old Games or Gamersgate. But especially Steam since almost all PC gaming purchases come from there, and the game will get loads of advertising and people willing to part with their money.

I hope it doesn't stay exclusive. Unless they're really trying to turn the Square Enix store into a real Steam rival. And that would take a lot of investment into the PC platform. And so far they've done less investment into the PC platform than SEGA. Also, I really hope they've modernized the graphics as much as possible at all. All it takes is the allowance of varying resolutions up to around 1080p or so. Some slapped on anti-aliasing and so forth, and maybe a couple other filters like 2D filters such as hq4x or Super Eagle type stuff. And it would look great and be a solid version.

Not to mention a version that would widely be considered the definitive version thus far and sell like hotcakes. Think of it, the best version of Final Fantasy VII, on Steam. That's like a license to print money.

This is SQEENIX pushing the envelope.

HD remakes? nah, fuck that, we'll just repackage the same game and watch the $$ pour in.

But I already own FF7 for the PC.

And here I thought someone had bumped a REALLY old thread. Like even older than NeoGAF itself.

Square putting these requirements to help people that arent tech savvy, thats fine. People saying the higher requirements are actually needed, thats a load of shit.

Yeah, and why does that matter? Because people clinging onto their Voodoo 3 SLI setup for dear life are gonna be mislead into thinking they can't run this game?

.

I'm not sure i want them to touch the music. The FF7 music i remember is the one from the original PC port, not the PS1 one! This wouldnt be the FF7 i played. :(

I'll wait for the Steam version for the following reasons:

1. Purchasing is easier: I already have a Steam account and prefer not to create new accounts unless I have to. Steam also already has my CC info. Finally, I have Steam Wallet money at the moment thanks to a Father's Day gift. Plus I know all of this is secure thanks to Steam Guard.

2. Downloading, Installing, and Patching is easy: I click install and the game downloads and installs at the same time. I don't have to bother with separate installers or adding a shortcut/custom image to Steam. Plus if/when there are patches, it will happen automatically.

3. Community Features: I already have a friends list on Steam to see what my friends are playing. Plus I really enjoy looking at friend/global achievement stats on Steam and comparing them to my own.

It's entirely possible that the S-E store could be just as good or even better on some of these things, but I find it highly unlikely that the service will be on par or exceed (which it would need to) Steam on all of them. All that to say, it's entirely reasonable for people to want to wait for the game to be on Steam.

Lol, I almost hope Square is secretly plotting something like that. They're going to take over the digital market by porting all their shitty games from the last 5 years, and filling the rest of the void with great Eidos properties like Kane & Lynch and Shellshock: Nam.

This is an inexpensive port to make it easier for PC players to play the game instead of buying the old FFVII multi-disc set on ebay.

Not even.

I guarantee that my piece of shit laptop will somehow manage to not run this. Wouldn't it be awesome if this turned into a surprise megaton, with full 1080p redrawn sprites, a rejigged ost, all that jazz. Square's gift for years of treating their best franchise poorly. Hahahahahahahahano :(

Does SE do anything besides troll nowadays?

I've already played FFVII on PC. What's the incentive for me to waste money on this?

Do these discs even work on Windows 7? I never bothered to try.
I'm not sure. If it isn't 32 bit, it probably doesn't.

If you already have it, why does it concern you that this is being released digitally? I don't see how this differs from Games on Demand or Playstation Classics.

Hmmm... Does a barely altered PC port count as making a better game than FF7? Seriously, why isn't this on Steam, with Square's recent woes you'd have thought they'd want to make some easy money.

Those screens look slightly better than I remember the PS1 version being.

Was the PC version a bit tidier anyway? or have they made it look a little better?

I have no doubt this will be on Steam probably just exclusive to the store for a couple months.

The pretty girl in the pink dress seems nice. I look forward to getting emotionally attached to her.

I love youtube comments

So.. Uhhh.. This is all very sudden, out of left field.

Why are they just arbitrarily re-releasing this?

FF7 remake confirmed.

those are just CG promo shots they used in the past, not even in-game CG. i'll wait for reviews.

I´ll stick to my PS1 copy since my PC copy just won´t run on my current system. That is, if I ever do a replay.

So what kind of shitty DRM are they adding to this and what will I have to put up with by signing up with the SE store?

Won't be buying if it's only going tk be on the SE store. Put it on Steam!

And non midi soundtrack you eediots. It better be reworked at least a little.

Do these discs even work on Windows 7? I never bothered to try.

Last time I tried (it was with vista) I needed lots of patches to make shit run properly. It was a frustrating thing to do.

Don't know about Win7 though, I have 64-bit so I wonder if it would be even more of a clusterfuck to make this work...I rather pay 10$ to have my stuff ready to play at this point.

Hopefully I'm not the first person to mention the obvious "Cloud" save joke.

But anyway, I don't know how to feel about this. It seems like they're side stepping on actually creating a remake, which people have wanted for years now. I don't see this port being too successful...character booster? Oh lawd.
