The torrent file is fast. No need to track it down online. Start the updater until it tries to update then cancel.
Goto "\Users\*user*\Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY XIV Beta Version\downloads\ffxiv-beta\d96437e6\metainfo" and find the 2010.09.03.2000.patch file and load it into utorrent or bittorrent. Itll be done in 1 minute.

Copy and paste the downloaded .patch file into the "\Users\*user*\Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY XIV Beta Version\downloads\ffxiv-beta\d96437e6\patch" directory and start the updater.

I think it was Jinko that mentioned this briefly last night but its really hard to believe that these areas we are seeing in open beta will be all we get in retail. Its kinda dissapointing that you can go From Gridanias starting zone right to Uldahs and then right to Limsa Lominsa with a simple boat trip.

I remember in FFXI when you started in grassy Sarutabaruta and head into desert Tahrongi/Meriphtaud and then barren, dark, and drab Sauromugue until you eventually hit Jeuno. It always felt like you were seeing something different. Theres very little variation here which is upsetting when I was hoping for the level of variation that FFXI gave us. Jungles, forests, plains, barren, red desert, white desert, and caves.

One thing thats nice too see is the variation in the underground areas though. Ul Dah underground starts off mine-like and then turns into a Kuftal Tunnel looking area that I didnt make it far in because I got raped by ants. Limsa has the glowing cave look. Gridania has the underground castle look. I wonder if a lot of Eorzeas expansion is going to be done with underground zones leading to above ground cities.

So right now there's three starting cities, three starting zones, three underground areas... and a few blocked off paths? Curious how many of those there are, and how many zones will be in the game at launch.

Add Ishgard's region to that list.

And I think we will see the other 2 towns in the Eorzea map, if not at launch, within the first 2 content updates.

A lot of FFXIs variation came right from the start though. The areas leading Sandy - Jeuno, Bastok - Jeuno, and Windy - Jeuno all had a nice bit of variation to them. I dont know if they were there from the start though as I came in for US PS2 launch. Id imagine that they were though....at least La Theine/Buburimu/Tahrongi.

They are massive which also leaves me wondering if there will be more to see on launch. Its hard to imagine that the starting areas will be so massive without several other zones connected. They definitely leave room for expansion though Im hoping that expansion comes sooner rather than later.

Theres more than 3 underground areas I think. I saw at least 2 different named mines near Ul Dah. Theres also Mor Dhona that I couldnt find a route to. I dont know if thats underground or not.

True. Theres at least one major zone we havent seen yet.

Have you completed your 8 crafting leves? They're separate from your 8 field/battle.

1: Is there a place where you can buy potions or other healing items?

2: Can you buy better armor?

Im in that forest town.
This game is abit overwhelming for someone who hasnt played an MMORPG before...

I played FFXI for years, and in the 20 minutes I was on last night, I was lost :lol

Hopefully, I'll get a linkpearl when I get home tonight. Was there just one person that's passing those around???

Tek: Well, I got on last night. 3 Chocobo rating, though. Not that I went outside the town or anything, but the game ran fine. Not locked at a smooth FPS though, but well enough.

Just treat it like a normal FF game and talk to everyone/visit every building.


Hopefully downloading patches from other areas isnt what causes the error.

Seems fine, there are times when it gets very laggy, but I would imagine most servers get this.

Come GAF people we shoudl be doing this !

Got loads of people on that list but hardly anyone in the linkshell.

Has the lag died down alot yet? When it first started it was mostly unplayable for me kept dying because I just couldn't cast spells fast enough. Hopefully it gets better today and over the weekend.

I never encountered severe lag. Everything has been mostly smooth for me.

Depends on server and how congested it is, aside from bugs. Lindblum was terrible for hours for me so I went to Rabanastre and now Rabanastre is down. :lol

Time to meet up then I guess... Name a time and place and maybe we could get a group to get in the LS within 15 minutes. Loads of people on the list and indeed would be more fun to do stuff togehter....

Needed to re-roll my character as I couldn't figure out how to get a weapon attached to my Blacksmith (yes I suck). Throwing rocks wasn't cutting it. :lol

The flist seems to be the best option. Sending tells doesn't tell you if the said person is online or not, and the search function is borked atm. This way if you can check your flist and see if any pearl holders are online and nearby. I ran into some people around Ul'dah yesterday, but i couldn't give out invites.
