Does an NPC spawn next to the crystal for the behests? I've yet to figure out how to get to a behest, so it's every 30 mins real time (8:30-9:00-9:30-etc.)?

They'll be standing somewhere inside the camp, not really next to the crystal.

Am working through "Some Like It Hot" in Ul'dah, and the damn
the calm the miners in the guild
quest drove me crazy, totally unclear what to do, a room of 50 people spamming emotes.

On a semi-related note, I had no idea you had to return to the adventurers guild after that first leve to learn new skills, I've been using light-thrust only on my lancer til level 6 :lol Was wondering when new skills would appear. Think I'm done for the day!

Friend of mine is saying conj is bugged, he says it takes him 15 seconds to cast a damage spell. Anyone have an issue like this?

I used the installer to download the game files, I manually downloaded the D2010.08.30.2000 patch, the installer downloaded the new patches after that one, but when it goes to finally install everything I get an error: "An update error occurred. Update files corrupted. Error 20638, 20641, 20643". Anyone have any idea how I can get around this? (*prays that I don't have to download everything again*)

I can't decide what place I want to start in for the Open Beta. ;(

I want the most Sandy-like place, but I also like forest outside areas like Ronf.

- It's still slow, but not as laggy as phase 3.

- Skill points are more consistent. I've done six local guildleves and have never gotten 0 skill points from an attempt. I got around 50 skill points for failed synths and 300-500 for a successful one. But I haven't seen any huge skill ups from one synth either, like getting 1,100 skill points like I sometimes got in phase 3.

- It seems easier to get the rewards from guildleves. In phase 3, I would always get crappier rewards than were listed on the guildleve because the quality of the items I turned in weren't high enough. If I completed a local guildleve in OB and it said I was going to get five bronze ingots, that's what I got, not five bronze nuggets.

- In addition to gil and items, you're rewarded with a recipe now when you complete a local guildleve. You'll get a message in your chat log that you've learned a new recipe and it lists the ingredients. However, there is still no recipe book in the menus, so the feature doesn't seem to be completely implemented yet. For now, you have to write down the recipes they give you on pen and paper.

- I seem to get less failures, but that may be because I understand the crafting system better than when I started phase 3 and know to check the leves so I don't take ones above my current rank rather than a change to the system. I didn't fail a single local guildleve and only had a single failed attempt between six quests.

Unfortunately I haven't been able to do much crafting outside of guildleves because in Ul'dah I've ended up with hundreds of fire and earth shards and like five each of everything else, and I don't have the right shards to synth anything =/.

Is there a way to search to see if certain people are online like you could in FFXI?

I'm currently in Ul'dah if there are any sack holders near by that would be willing to give me a pearl. I don't want to just randomly /tell everyone until I stumble across somebody who is online.

There's no such thing as an "official RP server" unless SE sanctions it and bans people for not RPing like other games do. If it's community-decided, then it's unofficial.

what the hell is up with that tower with skeletal bat wings. also, "Head-Rip Ogre"? :lol

Yeah it happened to me earlier and I was just standing there to recover hp.... and I was like "right. I'll play later." :/

So I'm running into a very annoying bug... which basically kills any chance of me playing the beta right now.

What happens is, any time I'm near a fairly congested area--aetheryte crystals usually--if I try to do anything that contacts the server or sometimes even just walking around, I get an error and the game disconnects me. It's happened when teleporting, touching the aetheryte, starting a levequest, walking around near the aetheryte, browsing the leve list... Happens without fail, and makes the game unplayable.

Is anyone else running into this issue? It's fairly bizarre to me that not many folks have mentioned getting it, and it's driving me nuts.

Anyone have any tips for getting money in this game? I ask because I need tin ore to finish a quest, but it seems the only way I can get any is to buy it from an NPC, which requires gil :(

Going to delete my character in tree town because it sucks. Going to try the town that was the Alpha/Beta focus because odds are that shit is the most consistent and easy to navigate at this point. Hope it is better because I didn't have much fun at all with my first character :|

Are you in Limsa? I can hook you up with some gil, I managed to get 100,000 somehow already haha. Not like I'm going to use it.

How long did it take to walk? Were there any zones separating the two starting areas?

I don't need money atm, but I can see myself going broke so I'd just like to know the quickest way to get money if it happens.

Also: How do I use my retainer for storage? I went to the retainer NPC, named my retainer, and now I can't find these 'bells' to summon her and store my items :(

Yeah I just sell every item I get to vendors, that coupled with joining lots of battlecraft leve groups and also doing the main quest= lots of money.

No idea on the retainer though.
