Nope, no 30 days with any version of the expansion.
It's 5 feathers for 1 top and 1 pants. 5 feathers for the weapon. I don't think gloves, boots and hats or right side accessories are available through the feathers.
A ton of cutscenes and 2 relatively easy trials and you'll be good.

Au Ra's were a mistake, they're nothing but trash.
You can get 2 ilvl 120 item, the npc sell only the weapons and the body of the ironwork magitek sets.
It also won't fly for a bit after you enter the new areas

Man I want to get this but I'll be going on a 2 week vacation soon and don't want to "waste" a part of sub time.
Haven't played in a long time so I'll have to go through a bit of story content but Dark Knight looks cool.
Rogue was fun when I messed around with it during a free weekend so I might like to actually try a DPS class after only ever getting a Paladin to 50 then stopping before I even tried any of the Hard Mode Dungeons.
And just to be silly I want the Griffon mount and I'll mentally name it Griffith because my character name is Casca and my chocobo name is Guts.

Don't care what anyone says, having a blast playing as WHM with the new abilities. A bit more versatility in the heals and dps department, especially with Aero II and assize. Assize is amazing with the mp/hp restore (an instant mp injection for me now greater than Shroud's refresh over time) and that massive range for damage. Basically like scholar, I'm refreshing my dots. Took a bit of time to get used to the mp flow for the rotations (and was burning through mp a bit too fast early on), but definitely got a better hang of things now. And tetra is amazing to have on big pulls for an emergency heal instead of wasting ben, or great to add to the end of a cure cast if somebody is low to basically top them off quickly or healing two targets in a short time without needing to burn a medica anymore.

How do you get a code like that? I thought you have to send them an email through the recruit a friend program on the mog station?
Would really love some feathers to get the Twin mount
If you have a spare email you can send them to that and then give them out. Easier to recruit people on places like this because you don't have to ask for emails which not everyone wants to give out to weird people on the internet.
If you go into Mog Station, then My account then recruit a friend you can enter a spare email and get a code that way.

Im going to try get back into this. Currently only ilvl 81 (lvl 50 DRG) if i remember correctly.
Question...Seeing as i have not completed all the recent patches, just started the 2.1 , if i bought the expansion would i start to level 50-60 without going to heavensward content?
My thought is if i completed all patches (without buying heavensward) up till latest pre-heavensward that is alot of wasted xp.

Never cross FATE streams it is nothing but chaos. (Yes I know that hotbar looks weird but at the time it was designed for fate grinding and travel)
But anywho shortly after that picture was taken I hit 51 on my AST and have finally gotten comfortable with the class. Its funny how I sometimes forget to buff people because I tunnel vision on healing people, but I'm getting better at that. As for stances I've sorta go like this for now. Dinural Sect for bosses, Nocturnal Sect for trash mobs.

So. Finished the story late last night/early this morning and here are some thoughts. (probably a bit scattered. I've had sleep though, promise).
Non-Spoiler stuff:
I love flying. I like how you have to explore to get the Aether Currents. Not sure about locking some behind side quests but I understand the logic behind the story quest ones.
The new zones are amazing and the Dravania areas give me feelings of FFXI (Zi'Tah for the Hinterlands and odly enough Sky for the Forelands)
New PLD combos will take time to get used to, especially when I'm first doing a dungeon and am out ilevelled by the DPS so I don't have time to not spam the Halone combo. I appreciate Clemency for soloing and guess it could be useful in some cases in content but the cast time lets it down I think. Having a standard 3 second cast time means that if you use it in a "critical" situation by the time it goes off the healer would have pulled theirs off and then one of you end up wasting MP or a cooldown. Sheltron is cool, nice recast, lets you use shield swipe more often, it's cool. Silly name though, why not Shelter instead? Sheltron makes it sound like a robot tortoise.
Such a tease with the new SMN 50 quest. ;_;
Ishgard is cool and easy to get around, I hope eventually we can join their grand company as I'd leave the Twin Adders in a heart beat. I assume they will get one because they have their little flag icon and their own MB.
The new Primal fights and dungeons are really cool but it's a shame the lvl 60 ones are the most boring in the entire expansion.

FFXI had good expansions but at the time I played I couldn't get through all the story stuff (got all through Zilart, almost through CoP and half way or so in ToAU and hardly anywhere in WoG). WoW with Burning Crusade was cool when they introduced flying and really cool in Cataclysm where they remade the old world and brought flying and Death Knight was cool in Wrath and umm... Panda's and Chinese dragon mounts were cool in Mists but yeah. Best MMO expansion I've played. I have high hopes for the 3.x content (which I'm rolling under the Heavensward banner like 2.x is under ARR)

I dislike they bring the Sultana back. It really cheapens the whole ending of 2.55 if it's just "lol she was sleeping because I had to stop an assassination attempt". Doesn't make sense really why Lolorito would do that instead of just stop it and out Teledji and then have him taken care of by the Crystal Braves or the Brass Blades or Sultan Sworn. I'm guessing for treason he'd be stripped of his seat on the syndicate and lose the title or catenau reclamation bill or whatever that Lolorito wanted. Seems overly complex to have expected Raubahn to kill Teledji and to have Ilberd be able to stop him from killing Lolorito.
Love what they did with Iceheart. I thought she was a real villain through the end of 2.55 and even though the trailers spoiled we'd work together I expected it to be a "let's see where you're coming from/set up a meeting" I didn't expect it to turn from that into a full on redemption arc. I loved how her and Estinien were and how by the end he respected her and even though they were on different sides they were both lied to. She also had two of the most badass cutscenes in the entire game against Ravana and against the new Agrius. Her pulling off the Shiva transformation so easily and often kinda makes me think that the whole "Free Company Summon" thing might end up with us turning into our patron deity. Like a personal Limit Break.
Shame about hanging plot threads like Omega. I guess maybe that gets fleshed out more when new PVP options come out? Since it deals with Cartenau and all.
KNIGHTS OF THE ROUND! I joked when we got into the fight but didn't expect them to literally be Knights of the Round. Such a great fight, very pretty, great music, easy but fun. Would like to see a Hard/Extreme version.

POST CREDITS MIND FUCK! Was that the moon!? You do see a VERY close like moon or something in one (all?) of the zones, was it that? Was it the normal, out in space moon? SPace!? Are we going to ride a whale to the moon? Are we going to ride BISMARK TO THE MOON? WAS THAT THE FUCKING TRAILER GUY!? He's not us! He's not us at all! He's a real character! Are you marking? I mark every pull with at least a 1 when tanking and I dont run into this at all.

I mark and I still have that happen. Sometimes it's fine where they are throwing DoTs up on the other mobs in the queue so they go down a bit faster when we get to them or something but others it's "hurr durr can't count. Blank comes before 1 and 2, 2 comes after blank, 1 isn't a number".
Onto patch 2.5 content now, Won't be long until I can finally start the new areas. The patch content really hasn't been that interesting at all, Especially doing it back to back. I get why the developers insist I finish it, But it's really quite boring. Still love the game though.

It's not very complex, which is a good thing for an MMO.
All previous MMOs have trained me to just ignore the story but everyone loves this one

Hmm wouldn't a custom build PC come out cheaper than a gaming laptop? Even if you build everything from scratch you should be in the 800-1000€ region.
They sure are, even with the German translation the FATE's especially are god-tier funny, both in names and in the explanation text!
I want to use SweetFX but honestly the game looks so great and carefully crafted most of the time (minus the textures) that I feel that SweetFX will ruin more than it would help in that case. I do have to look into injecting SMAA though.

There are obviously low moments (titan fetch quest) and tbh the original 2.0 story wasn't all that interesting to me. But from there on it's been ramping up and 3.0 one is great.
I really need to start doing Main Story Quests! I've been crafting away, still saving most of my Leves until I get to the 3rd tier of new missions "Holy" anything is just a pain in the ass to craft! The daily Grand Company Provision Missions are awesome to level with! I did a Weaver * mission and got almost 1 million EXP!
I'll soon get to lv 60 in all crafts, I chose my Specialist classes CRP / LTW / BSM I anticipate most doing Goldsmith / Weaver so I can capitalize on rarity of my crafts

You can always read the summaries in the 'completed' of the journal screen. All cutscenes can also be re watched for quests in an inn at every major city or guild house. I started doing this myself here and there to refresh myself on events.

This is probably the key- the story, though a step above 2.0, is still kinda trash most of the time but in a relatively entertaining way. It's gone from like, the anime equivalent of Terry Brooks to the equivalent of Brandon Sanderson. Don't look too deeply into it and enjoy the weeaboo fightin' magic.

So I'm returning to this game after playing it quite a bit on release but then dropping it due to lack of money at the time. Made a new character on Ultros early this morning, and I'm planning on going Marauder -> WAR for tanking. I had just unlocked Warrior when I quit the first time, but remember reading they weren't as good as PLD for tanking. Anyone know how they're doing nowadays?
In any case, hope to see you guys at point online. Gotta power level my character through the story to get to the new content I suppose.

Thanks, that's quite decent actually. I was worried they'd be 10 each. Is there any other way to get the feathers in-game as well, or is it purely a promotional thing?
IIRC you don't get anymore exp than you would but it makes it easier to get gold since contribution is through the entire party instead of just yourself.

Id actually give this a 9.5, it may be the single best expansion to a mmo I have ever played. I still have an active FFXI, WoW, Rift and a few other accounts but this expansion reminds me so much of COP and ToAU its not funny the only thing is its better. Thanks for the mini write up on PLD as I only took it to 52 then Powered DRK to 58 so I was wondering how they buffed my old favorite job. Flying is amazing and handled very well. I love how some quests cannot be completed until you can actually fly in a zone. Also the music throughout is nothing short of phenomenal..... I actually ordered the OST just to have the physical cd.

I'm sure it's the same. It's just in a Party you're almost always guaranteed a gold which gives the most exp.

The answer is yes and no. No you don't inherently get more xp by being in a group, in fact you get a bit less iirc(from mobs, fate completion is the same), but yes you might get more xp in fates in a group if you get credit for the mobs being killed. Getting credit involves doing enough damage to the mob, and doing it solo in a populated fate is almost impossible, the only good way to get credit in this case is to "tag" the mob first so it's red to you instead of purple.
If you're in a group though, it counts all your group's damage to figure out if you're eligible for xp, and if you are and your group does well, you can double or triple the xp of a given fate from kill xp. Though that's highly dependant on how many people are there, how lazy your group members are and the fate types(bosses obviously only have one mob, so getting kill credit for this does nothing, but it doesn't hurt either to be in a grp).
