Hello!

is it worth it for me to upgrade to Heavensward when I'm not level 50(or 30 for that matter)?
I played a little bit of this game before, but I had to cancel since I wasn't be going to play for a few months. Now my MMORPG itch is tingling again so I'm wondering if I shall give it a try again.

I'm going to delete my character(since he looks so dumb 8) ) so I'll be starting from scratch again, if that's useful information. Also I'm probably going to sub for just a month first just to test the waters, but I've heard good things about the expansion and I did have a lot of fun playing the game prior to the expansion, so I'm wondering if it's losing out on content early on if I don't have a the expansion.

Nah, you can't do anything new until you're 50 and finish the main story.

You get:

3 centurio/mark - One-star Clan Mark Bills (daily)
4 centurio/mark - Two-star Clan Mark Bills (daily)
15 centurio/mark - Three-star Clan Mark Bills (daily)
100 centurio - Elite Clan Mark Bill (weekly)

So that comes down to:
Daily: 3x5 + 4x5 + 15x5 = 110
Weekly: 100 + 110x7 = 870

To upgrade all gear you need 395 + 300x5 + 150x5 = 2645 (395 for the weapon, 300 for the helm, body, hands, legs, feet, 150 for belt, neck, braclet, earrings, 1 ring)

neat. that was helpful, thanks! :D

What is up with these duty finder times? Last couple of days I've been trying to do the daily roulette and the wait times are like 30 minutes even though it says the average wait time is 5 minutes.

I'm a dps so I am used to waiting a while, but this is crazy

I'm pretty sure you can acquire a fantasia (potion that lets you change your appearance, race and gender) from a quest in limsa lominsa pretty early on. If you don't want to delete your character and start over.

PLEASE, somebody help!!!! I just bought the FF XIV bundle through the PSstore but I made a mistake. I bought the PS3 version instead of the PS4 version, I'm screwed? OMG I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS!

Contact Sony. They may be a pain in the ass but it's not like you're asking for a refund.

Nidhogg being that easy to beat? I didn't expect him to be the final boss, but atleast to put more of fight. I basically duo him with dragoon-bro.
Between him and Dravesgr(whatever his name is) that won't stop crying about Shiva and being basically the Minfilia of dragons, both great wyrms are pretty dissapointing.

I wouldn't be surprised

Btw, where's my buddy Mogleo after the 3rd quest (the escort one)? Can't find him >_<

My character is at level 15 right now. Really enjoying this game :)

Cool char!

Nidhogg was double weakened, he had only 1 eye (which wasn't even his own one) and was being weakened by Estinien channeling the power through his real eye.

Later in the story spoilers
He later gets both his eyes back and reforms his body through Estinien's, he'll be a fully powered raid boss later on.

Ok, I take it back then. Let see what they do with him. Guess I'll go to play some more with the Moogles (still in the 55-56 grind bridge)...

So did some dungeon runs to work towards 60 on my DRK and the MP tick refresh is more annoying than character breaking. If you know how to manage mp then it's really not that bad (just pay attention to your buff timers and when they fall off, so when you lose a chunk of mp you are ready. It'll be refunded, but if you drop to low you can lose access to mp related abilities).

Only thing I'm noticing is the absence of the AoE blind from DP. I'm really missing it on some of the larger trash pulls. Wish they dodn't have to wait till next week to hotfix all the DRK issues though. We already get a bad enough rap as is and this isn't helping.

I need to contact them by e-mail though because I'm Brazil and my PSN is US. But I can't find their e-mail.

https://support.us.playstation.com/app/contact_options/

I am trying to find an actual email address but the above has a link to their live chat, which is currently down.

I would refrain mentioning that you are from Brazil. I am not sure how they react to people buying product from PS stores that are out of region. It's information they shouldn't need if you paid in US dollars.

Yup, I used live chat for some US PSN snafus from the UK and it was fine. never asked where I was or anything.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind, I'll just ask for the refund or if themselves could swap the versions for me! Guess I'll wait for the chat go live.

Oh, that's good. I won't mention then.

I just transferred to Ultros. Still people on in EU times and early morning weekend hunts are so much nicer.

I used to have a character on Ultros as well but the increased latency made dodging ground AoE really annoying to deal with, so I rerolled on Odin when I came back for Heavensward. Do miss the GAF FC a little though.

The latency is the same, the euro servers are located in the same place for now.

Went back to SMN to continue the main Quest. Did the Spell Speed changes significantly increase the SMN's damage? I'm reaching higher numbers than usual.

Fought Ravana HM first time yesterday. Group couldn't beat it, but it was a fun experience overall. Great music too.

Finally made it to Heavensward content. Four days and eighteen hours to get there. The stretch between hitting level fifty and finishing up the post launch content for ARR was much longer than I could have anticipated. Some of the quests were exceedingly menial, and these tasks felt particularly repetitive treading through areas that it had felt like I'd never left. Without new scenery to spruce up the experience the straight shot of quests with menial rewards found itself to be a bit grating. I wish there was some way for SE to clean up this experience for new players, but the best and most important stuff involving characters and story does happen inside the 2.1-2.5 content. I only wish it was...somewhat trimmed.

Assuming you went ahead and bought Heavensward the second you hit 50, what level were you upon finishing 2.5 stuff?

From my experience I am about to hit level 52 and I am reaching the final 2.55 stuff.

I think I may have started leveling from 50 to 51 just before finishing up the 2.0 content so I did get a big boost from that.

I haven't been doing much in the way of sidequests or many fates during my time with the 2.1 to 2.55 content though.

I think level 52 or close to that is a safe bet.

Yeah I actually felt pretty sh*t helping the Ishgardians against him. I feel like he was totally justified in what he was doing and would have been more than happy to leave him to it.

Cool. I've seen a bunch of vets talk about how painful the push to 60 can be in Heavensward, so it's nice to know us new players can get a bit of a head start.

People should stop referencing data that makes me feel uncomfortable because games get ported to platforms I don't like

That meager amount of EXP won't amount to much once you hit the exp wall at Lv.53 anyways.

I would have liked the confict of the Dragonsong war
was more of a grey area, with both having right and wrong in their side.
Right now (as of The Aery dungeon) it's just dragons being the good guys and "we" (Eorzean races) being the bad ones.
It's basically
Coil
all over again.

About the exp thing, I did 2.2 to 2.55 missions in a row and I only got like half level to 51 :/

I beat Bismarck Ex last night. (hopefully mechanics aren't spoilers to talk about)

It's a pretty fun fight.

It's super similar for the first two phases, the second phase just forces you to attack one/randomly swap. Was actually thinking in the HM fight that simply burning both down felt like it was missing something - there it is.

The third phase was interesting. A few people in our group were really dumb and needed us to admonish them for attacking bubbles during lightning weather, but aside from that everyone was on point. Took us maybe four tries altogether.

So typically, in phase 3 of EX, to avoid getting 4 stacks of the debuff which instantly kills you, you need to sit out every other chain - which means if you get 5 chain phases before the duty fails, you get 3 bursts wherein you should do ~30% of Bismarck's HP each time and LB3 one of those times.

But mechanically it feels weird to just stand around ignoring him while he's chained because you have debuffs up.

I know some people were using a strategy where 4 people hop on the back each time, but to me that feels like you're not making the best use of buffs/debuffs. You do substantially more damage the more classes are whacking at it.

Anyone else have thoughts on this?

I had the same feeling in regards to Nidhogg. Think about it from like Hraesvelgr's perspective, his sister was brutally murdered, her power stolen, your other brother maimed and his power stolen and him driven mad by people they once considered trusted friends. Man's story in this is that of greed whereas the dragon's story is that of grief, betrayal and desire for vengeance. Like I fully get why the dragons have done the things they have done because the people of this world have been screwing with them for thousands of years.

I felt like crap when Estinien killed Nidhogg it didn't feel right at all and I'm glad even Estinien wasn't truly satisfied.

About Bismarck EX:

Since I've not tried it yet, I can't say much but I was wondering, is it a good idea in that fight as a Dragoon to save Battle Litany for certain parts of the fight (ie only use it during the phases where you're on his back).

Just trying to figure out uses for it outside of using it randomly during fights lol.

Managed to get one of these at Japan Expo today. They were sadly already out of Topaz Carbies by the time I got there. Oh well!

Lucky. >.< they are so cute, can't wait to be able to get them on the SE store.

Ehh, not really. The dragons are attacking people who had nothing to do with the betrayal. It's one of the reasons Iceheart is so devastated after meeting Hraesvelgr.

Also about 59-60. That didn't take nearly as long as I was expecting it to based on what I've heard people say. I've still got a bunch of sidequests to do in ALL of the new areas. I admit I did run Library a lot because I noticed it gives a crap ton of EXP.

I give Hraesvelgr credit in that he still choose not to come full genocide on humanity though. That last conversation you have with him really hit home how extremely pissed off he still is. That line about how would he would kill them all right then and there had they not had that small bond they currently share with one another.

Totally agree. I understand Nidhogg's vengeance but the people who wronged him have been dead for a thousand years. He's continuing a war and a cycle of hatred between the two races simply for his selfish reasons. Both Midgarsomr and Tiamat agree that the war needs to stop. The MSQ proves there are that Ishgard wants the conflict to end and peace to reign. Nidhogg simply does not care.

well, yeah, I mean the origins of the Dragonsong war. It just emphatizes oh the races are bad and the dragons good.

Also, it probably happens the other way around to, for example the big brother of the child dragon in the Dravanian Forelands that you have to heal in a quest, that argues that they hunt for food but humans hunts for pleasure or something.

I'm learning quickly that having it up 100% of the time is what is going to be separating a good Dragoon from a bad Dragoon. I still mess up my rotations and it falls off but I'm getting to the point where if I can not mess up for a minute, it's off cooldown again so I can put it back up without losing too much.

In Bismarck EX there aren't many instances where you have no targets to attack for ~20+ seconds. If for some reason it falls off, you can just put it back up when targets reappear.

It being up isn't the biggest deal for attacking the core, I think you're attacking from the flank so only Fang and Claw is worth using in combos, blowing powered jumps is the real benefit of having it up for core phases.

The second phase of the fight with the wind/sea serpents is a great way to practice keeping BotD up during boss fights with mechanics going on. You'll see what I mean. If you're able to consistently pull of 4th combo finishers, you should be able to visibly notice the mob's health dropping a lot faster as well.
