Nah sorry, Zidane has the worst armor design.
This translated poorly as fuck into XIV.

Why did I think they added more Main Storyline quests in this patch :(

What we got in 3.1 was super short, and unsurprisingly no one seems particularly thrilled with this patch (which to be fair, it doesn't really offer a whole lot either)

Yoshp definitely dropping the ball and making it easier to play other games :/

I think it's badass, and more importantly it's a welcome break from the recent direction of glamours. Plus if it is a vet reward it's certain to be dyeable.

EDIT: It would also make a nice companion glamour to the Minfilia set.

Don't know. New MSQ always comes in major patches (3.x), not minor ones (3.xx) with the exception of 2.5x because it was too much for one patch.

I agree that the MSQ in 3.1 was too short, though.

People are back and they are playing the game, going through old content for the relic, thats for sure. Party Finder on Balmung had plenty of groups looking for FATEs and Dungeons.

I had fun meeting new people while going through my dungeons to unlock my Awoken weapon. But I definitely got the feeling that nobody else was enjoying themselves but me, and the only thing that even made it remotely tolerable for them was the fact that it they would get a item level 200 weapon for completing it. Nobody really wanted to talk or make the journey anymore tolerable. I tried to keep up some conversation but nothing fruitful came out of it. We all went our separate ways after it was done and over with, and most will go back to shouting in Idlyshire on how SE destroyed the game with this patch.

Oh, I'm looking hecka forward to doing the old content again. After doing a handful of dungeons and void ark mostly between raid sessions for quite awhile.

Admittedly though, yeah as big as the grind it attitudes tend to make these grinds a lot worse. Instead of people taking their time and trying to enjoy themselves a lot of players see it as some sort of obligation that they really shouldn't enjoy. I mean, yeah it's understandable to a certain extent. This is a REALLY big grind to start this late in the raid cycle, and that's certainly a bit cringeworthy. Still, might as well try to make it fun.

I'm just now catching up on all of this relic talk.

...Wow. I expected a grind, but this seems even worse to me. My condolences to those going after it. May RNG be with you and you get the drops with minimal effort!

Seeing that BLM relic though, makes me glad I'm going to skip the whole thing. Sure it might be nice for vanity [and title/achievement, I guess?] but losing 100+ Spell Speed on my weapon for a class that already needs as much of it as you can just so the actual mechanics of your main rotation [Enochian] are maintainable? No thanks! I really don't know what the thought process was when Square-Enix gave us DET/CRIT and no SSPD, and yet they gave it to SMN when they have no use for it. It almost seems like they got the stats for the SMN and BLM reversed. :/

If Square-Enix doesn't fix the content situation soon, they're going to start bleeding subscribers. I've already given thought to cancelling my subscription, but considering I love raiding so much [well, not Alexander, outside of A3 that place is dead to me] and don't want to lose my raid slot, it kind of makes me want to stick around. Not just that, I genuinely enjoy talking/playing with the other members of my static as well as the other members of GAF [although I don't talk in FC chat nearly as much as I should].

All I know is the second raid tier for this expansion had better be up to Coil standards. Please, Yoshi-P. Don't disappoint me!

Over/under 4 weeks until Myra or Haman post a picture of their relic?

I'm guessing that highly active players will either have it or be relatively close by a month. People willing to no life it will have it in less time, but you're not going to see TOO many people with these weapons in under three weeks.

Most players will probably need something closer to two months or more to complete this grind.

Lazy content update is lazy. If some players like grinding boring, unfun content that we've all done hundreds of times already for a sub-optimal stat stick, more power to them.

I think the only thing keeping me subbed is the 45 day housing demo threat. I suppose I could unsub in month increments until next major patch. How disappointing.

That's kind of sad. A virtual house isn't worth paying monthly for @_@

Based on how 3.0 has gone so far... Probably? I'm expecting a copy-paste of the ARR relics with the content swapped out.

Would be totally thrilled to be wrong though.

The most they've been willing to do with relics was letting us "choose" stats. I can't imagine it'd be anything more than that.

It'd be cool if they let us choose an indirect combat ability to "buff", like "allows your Invigorate to restore 50 more TP" or something that would be a negligible loss when upgrading/sidegrading the relic, but actually makes the weapon feel unique.

The game desperately needs more interesting gear choices for 4.0, it cannot possibly continue this +main stat thing forever and continue to grow.

I guess we know the answer to this now :-(. I really was kind of hoping for something more than a straight xerox of the relic quest we had before. But we actually got a xerox that had the cool stuff (Chimera, Hydra) stripped out. It's just pure grind for a weapon that's not going to be any better than the weapon everyone will have in a few weeks. Lame.

Being an idiot though, I'll probably have a go at this last step and see how I get on. I had started doing Alex on my DRG anyway for gear so that's a good place to start and I actually enjoy Alex NM so there is that. Thank god you can do it on other jobs at least.

Probably not paying monthly for, but maybe bi-monthly. It is kinda nice to log in and do some diversiony stuff like farming or a roulette here and there, but I am not living in this game for a convoluted recycling of old content.

I find it humorous that SE's idea of content for casual players is doing their shit raids 600+ times(if you include the law tomes you get) and knowing people with every crafting specialist to make you items for the final step. Even if some1 who is "casual" finished all the grinding stuff, how do they expect them to get the crafted items without them knowing people or buying gil?

that's totally fine though, lotsa people have done that

relic isn't mandatory for anything, the whole purpose of it is to be a ship in a bottle for people not super keen into the raiding scene

a byproduct of that can definitely be construed as trying to extend player retention, but that argument falls kinda short when relic's actual usefulness would be on content that would already be old, or perhaps redundant, to you

it's a hair more useful than collecting every triple triad card - another thing that isn't required for anything except an achievement or something

one positive effect is that it's getting more people into various content, and there are opportunities to hit up a few buds to work on it like the zodiac saga

but if you do take a break i hope you have a happy holiday and enjoy some nice videogames

I think the casual approach is waiting a few weeks and running Void Ark once for your 210 weapon upgrade. Which actually seems like a pretty viable plan to me.

Honestly I think the crafted segment of this if you can find it on the market board is actually pretty tame compared to even the desynth phase in zeta, or the materia phase and all the money you had to spend to 'get gud'. The main blocking point is specialization, the actual items you craft and all the ingredients are actually fairly easy all things considered. I expect the price on them to be out of control for a good 3-4 weeks though with the fact you need more then one HQ item this time.

I don't think anyone cares about the crafted part, we're all annoyed by the ~619 alexander runs.

If you are on a low populated server where the marketboard is run by 2-3 people and you realize it's gonna cost you 100mill(at current prices) to do the final step, then yes you are annoyed.

The issue with this relic grind design is same as a couple others, because you can't really do this casually effective. It's more effective to crazy grind because in 2-4 weeks, Alex runs will run dry (especially on our server for PFers) same way Garuda HM runs dried up for Novus and Bray HM runs dried up for Animus.

And the beastman tribes aren't worth enough to do exclusively on your casual play.

So I'm going to go hard on Alex runs this next week because it's just more effective.

sucks to be in a low populated server where one dude controls the marketboard.

GG

.... is there like only 200 people on your server? Almost all the ingredients are common/easily farm able, the only blocking point is specialization, the crafting gear lvl isn't that bad either.

Well, I definitely feel like I should not have switched classes after seeing that SMN book.

But seeing that Step 3 of the Anima quest...

... Well, I still have to get a Skell for Lin in Xenoblade X, so I best be getting to that!

Did anyone expect anything different from the relic quests though?
Time and time again, SE has shown that they never listen to the community when it comes to the relics. It has always been massive grind after grind after grind, All this while recycling old content over and over (Atma, Books, Lights, Mahatma?).

If you attempt it at a "casual" rate (and not to mention needing to be very rich), you will probably get your relic once the next patch hits and your relic becomes obsolete

nah i'm on behemoth. during 2.5 part 2 someone took a screenshot of his server's mb where the same person had the hq desynth mats for zodiac one million each and i thought it was funny since at the time they were about 200-400k on my server

Was it a lalafell player?

Least getting an i200 weapon is pretty simple. I can gear the alts I enjoy playing on a regular basis and call it good. Will try and get the MNK relic done first because NIN relic is meh.
