Yeaaaah, I get that people were getting gear faster then they expected, but I don't think they handled it correctly. Granted, I don't think people would have cared as much if the grind in there was more varied, but little variety plus a slower payoff isn't a good recipe for success.

Different ways to spawns S ranks would be nice, as well as a wider range of S's.

Edit: And yes, the lack of test servers is probably what is hurting this game the most right now. This is somewhat compounded by the fact that they're often slow to fix content that the community is unhappy with. I get that they want to avoid spoilers, but still I really wish they'd get over it and get at least SOME of this content tested before sending it out live.

This is especially true for new types of content.

If it's spoiling they're worried about, the MSQ post 3.0 has been paltry and I don't think anyone cares about Alexander's Goblin infestation.

To be clear, there is a LOT that I'm happy with here. I'm happy that so much content is relevant now, I'm happy that I can go back and do 2.X dungeons without it feeling like a waste of time, happy that this makes specialist crafting more relevant, etc etc etc.

The only thing I'm unhappy with is just how much grinding you need to do, in relation to when the patch is introduced. They really should have introduced this in 3.1.

If it's spoiling they're worried about, the MSQ post 3.0 has been paltry and I don't think anyone cares about Alexander's Goblin infestation.

Yes, they are on record stating that spoilers are the primary reason they do not run a test server. Specifically, they feel they would have to create a story scrubbed version of all main story quests, and they don't think they could do that without slowing down the rate at which patches come out.

That isn't entirely without merit, but like I said, they at least need to test new types of content. I don't really think they need to test most of the trials, dungeons, or the main story quests. However, Hunts, Diadem, Verminion, and some of the Relic Quests could all have benefitted from some testing.

You're already a demon.

Or maybe I am a man on fire. RIP raiding with suboptimal composition. I wonder if I should do NIN anime weapon when I actually do this crap. Kannagi was one of my favourite weapons in FFXI. Ukonvasara was my absolute favourite in FFXI but lol me leveling WAR when it's not DPS.

Eh, I think Brayflox farming will probably end up being worse. Shorter grind, but so blasted repetitive!

/fetalposition

Not even in the same ballpark. Bray didn't have the issue of hoping you get 7 competent people when you go in. Plus so many less Bray runs overall

I'm expecting so many of the same people to be running Alexander over and over, that even poor players will have that crap down to a science within the first few days. Plus this is vastly more varied.

The fact that I can knock out huge swathes of the grind with just maps, or tome grinding, or beastmen dailies, or hunts, helps immensely.

Wait a minute

WAIT A MINUTE

I GET IT NOW

Yoshi knows this community is insane. He knows everyone will go for the relic. He's going to force them to grind so much Alex that they'll learn to coordinate and handle mechanics.

He's trying to make the community git a little bit guder. It all makes sense now.

You won't be knocking out huge swaths with maps.

Sure I will. I can grab at least one map per day, and if I sell the mats I earn from mats I can probably buy a map without dipping into my Gil supply every few days. Since you only need twenty maps to skip one of the Alex floors, I could go at maps pretty casually and still knock out a fourth of the grind within a few weeks, while gathering Law/Poetics/hunts, etc on the side.

The trick to this grind, is to be finding a balance of content that you can live with. JUST running Alex over and over again may technically be the fastest way if that's all your doing, but spreading out the content you're doing is probably going to be almost as fast, without being nearly as soul crushing.

No, you probably won't.

We did two maps and saw 0 relic items so

enjoy that

They're not a guaranteed drop from maps, so you need ?? maps to skip. You also don't appear to have any influence over which item drops, so you could hit 20 of one and still get drops of it. Randomly going to guess they're like Belah'dian silver; not super rare, but not guaranteed.

I 'll also point out there was no "farm Bray" step of the original relic. That was what people chose to do to get to the end point the fastest for a specific step, but it was never what the game actively wanted you to do. Somebody will come out with a tedious and mind-numbing optimized grind for this relic, too, it's just a little more complicated.

You know the chance of it dropping from a map is pretty low right?

If they were 100% drop chance, I'd be done with my relic already.

Ayep, which is why I'm planning to pool my resources with other players and run numerous maps per day. I only want to knock out the A2 floor, (I think that's one of the floors you can bypass with maps at least,) since that floor is the one that tries my patience the most.

I'd think you guys would learn by now. You always say that this stuff is going to drive me nutty, and I always get through it just fine.

Grinds just don't bother me much, so long as I'm allowed to keep them varied. ;)

I don't think anything will drive you nutty, I juts know you aren't going to get shit from maps.

If maps are less efficient then I'd like, then I'll just find players that need to be carried through Coil turns, and set up a conveyer belt for Poetics bonuses. Either way, i WILL be finding a way to skip A2N! XD

Apparently if you only did the Beast Tribes for final step of ur relic, it would take u 480 days to complete it. Lol....

I guess I sold the 8 wyvernskin and 8 dragonskin maps I had a week too early. RIP my retainer purge last week...
On the bright side, I save $1 USD a month!

I'm really surprised that they didn't use this opportunity to spruce up Diadem and make some new activities and objectives, with relic item rewards. Would have given some people meaningful reasons to go in there.

I'm not as unhappy as everyone else, it's not going to make me quit. But I'm not blind to seeing that this shit isn't working out, and it's not going to retain players. My Free Company is definitely going to bleed from this, and that sucks. I just wish SE could make the right decisions to keep people around. They made some good decisions in Heavensward. They just can't learn how to keep people, and they keep making mistakes. At this point, I truly wonder if 3.2 will have enough to bring people back, and that saddens me.

I'm reading a pastebin of the quest text

We're gonna need another round of enchanted rubber, fast-drying carboncoat, fast-acting Allagan catalyst, and divine water.

Is that not 8 items then?

Edit: Or thats text relating to you doing another weapon.

Xion_Stellar

People should stop referencing data that makes me feel uncomfortable because games get ported to platforms I don't like
That's it I'm throwing 3.2 (maybe 3.3 too) out the window so I'm not going to bother getting BiS gear and I'm going to be leveling my crafters instead.

Because this won't be the last time Square-Enix will require crafting to advance on my Relic Weapon and I rather just do it myself instead on relying on an outside source to break my bank.

No, it's something like 87 days if you use all your allowances every day and you have the 4 ARR tribes (all except Ixal) maxed out.

At least I might be able to make some gil from maps out of all this.

WolvenOne

Yea, it's quite clear that there are only two viable ways to do this.

1: Do lots of different kinds of content.

2: Spam Alex NM like crazy.

Like I said before, I don't have a problem with what they're asking me to do, it's just the amount and how late it's been introduced in the patch cycle. A lot of people are going to end up rushing a bit to get this done before 3.2 hits.

Oh, some1 mentioned 400+. Maybe thats with none of them leveled, or they just did the math wrong.

Right? i205 weapons had crit and det.

Though freeing up skill speed to get us <=2.4 allows us to not worry about it on other gear, +1 weapon damage and ~3 strength doesn't really bridge the gap by itself.

Not allowing us to choose stats (so moving backwards from Zodiac from a design perspective) is just baffling to me.

The skill speed wouldn't be so bad if DRG wouldn't have quite a lot of skill speed on their gear already. As it is, the 100 extra skill speed the relic will give me over the Thordan weapon will only make it more difficult to stay in between 590 and 652 SS without having tons of accuracy on me which I don't need.

Thanks for the answers guys. This is...very tempting. I'm in the UK so it sounds like it'd be ideal, decreased latency combined with increased population. What's the easiest way around the stupid 1 million gil transfer limit? Presumably buy up a load of items on the MB and then sell them at the other end? Maybe this'll be my goal for the Christmas break.

Yeah, buing up items and selling them on the new server is probably the easiest way.. You could always make a alt character on the new server first to check how prices are there. If you should decide to transfer to Cerberus, feel free to shoot me a message :)

Anyone done the scholasticate quest line at all?

Can it save the fun parts of 3.15?

I just completed it. It's fine but it seemed to be just a prologue for more things to come.

I want to have it but I am only at 390 sub days. Assuming it will be a 1000+ days Veteran reward, it will probably still take me 2 years until I'll get it, so it's hard to get excited.

So happy I finally hit 50. Been looking forward to speed things up. I knew it would be a huuge improvement from <49 since 50 is the old level cap, so I kept my eyes on some decent gear in the marketing place.

It's hard to level fast when I play so casually, so this should help a looot. Although the EXP between 50 and 51 seems like a huge leap from 49→50, but I guess it's to be expected. Yay for glamour, booooo for no Gil.

not getting it anytime soon since i pay once a month instead of cheesing the requirements by paying ahead of time.

I look forward to that anima grind after a nerf or two. Currently taking a break to clean up my backlog a bit.

It's not a bad decision. I'm certainly going to do this, but as late as this is coming it'll probably be more useful for 3.2 and forward content, then anything on this raid cycle.

I mean, 5 ilvls just isn't THAT big of an upgrade, especially if you're not raiding right now.

From 2.2 on, Relic has basically existed to keep outdated content relevant with a low development effort. If anything, I'm expecting it to happen during or after 3.2 when the gear drops are made completely irrelevant for pretty much everyone and Diadem needs some kind of revitalization because it's how they've been rolling so far.

in before Diadem is already as dead as the game

I got my Cloud outfit like 2 months ago so it's going to be a while before I get it. :<

People are back and they are playing the game, going through old content for the relic, thats for sure. Party Finder on Balmung had plenty of groups looking for FATEs and Dungeons.

I had fun meeting new people while going through my dungeons to unlock my Awoken weapon. But I definitely got the feeling that nobody else was enjoying themselves but me, and the only thing that even made it remotely tolerable for them was the fact that it they would get a item level 200 weapon for completing it. Nobody really wanted to talk or make the journey anymore tolerable. I tried to keep up some conversation but nothing fruitful came out of it. We all went our separate ways after it was done and over with, and most will go back to shouting in Idlyshire on how SE destroyed the game with this patch.
