It might've been asked before, but despite Odin coming as a trial, we shouldn't expect his cash shop pony to be one of the drops, right?

uhhhh fixed spots for meteor streams and shit? goddamn

The best part for me is with the static marking, 2nd divebomb is always at the A position making that really easy to dodge.

Also whatever they do to prevent melee DPS from getting marked for stardust is helpful. It's like 99% one of the healers or casters who are preemptively in the drop locations.

I know we obviously don't have an official answer to this, but what is the general thinking in how the new classes will unlock with the expansion? I have a strong feeling I'm going to need to be atleast lvl 50 and I'm kinda hoping that's not the case.

I think they should be like the Advanced Jobs from FFXI, give them a level 30 requirement.

But I dunno if they've confirmed. Can you make a rogue as your first class?

No. Can't select it when you start and you need to unlock the armoury system first.

They said the new jobs won't have any base class so perhaps its like rogue in that you need armoury system to unlock them, but they simply start at level 1 as a job rather than a class?

tbh i'd be a bit pissed if this happens, i mean it's 24 usd

I'm thinking they may actually start at level 50.

That way, they can take advantage of all the Lv. 50+ Heavensward quests that will start when the expansion arrives. It'd be a bit awkward to unlock these new jobs on the back of the box at Lv. 1 with no quests to level them up -- you'd have to start at the bottom grinding FATEs or hunting log to 15 and then dunegon it up. Might be off-putting for people coming back to the game and wanting to sink their teeth into fresh content on a fresh job.

Yea if you want to start as a rouge I would pick the subclass you need first and get to 15, thumaturage iirc. Square did say that they're would be some kind of requirement for the new classes but made it sound like almost everyone should be fine in that regard. I just don't want to have to get my Pali all the way to 50 just so I can start over as a DK.

I know nothing about MMOs but is that typically done? Doing another 1-max grind for 3 classes would be terrible unless they change some leveling mechanics, but starting a job out at max with all of its mechanics unlocked sounds odd. Unless that is what is usually done in situations like this.

First Turn 11 Clear tonight. Was kind of messy at the end but hey...we made it?

Also everyone was dumbfounded at the fact that both drops were Black Mage. Which.... I was excited by but then again I'm the only caster in the group. Lol.

They could gradually introduce (gate) abilities through quests rather than have you unlock the equivalent palette of abilities other jobs have from the get-go.

Well, WoW introduced Death Knights as a hero class in the second expansion, which also raised the level cap from 70 to 80. Death Knights started at level 56, so maybe SE will do something similar? Start them at 30/40/45/50, because people with multiple classes have most/all regular quests done which would mean having to grind Dungeons/Levequests/FATEs, which might be the fastest way but is also terribly boring.

How does feeding a choco for colors work? I have to feed it once and wait 6 hours or can I feed it everything at once to get the color I want?

You feed it until it says something about the feathers/plumes being changed (I forgot the exact message), then you wait six Earth hours and repeat the process. Does that help? It is kind of vague, I know, but it has been a while since I colored my chocobo.

On the starting at higher level, I guess it depends on how much work they want to put in those new classes and if they care about people doing old content or not. It's been done in wow(though I believe they said it was a mistake and since haven't done the same), but what they could do is start the new classes at a higher level, say 45, and have them progress through purely instanced content for their specific classes, that's story specific and that gets you levels and abilities pretty fast but not all at once, so you can kinda learn, before ending at 50 where everyone else does.

Example, Dark Knights. It'd start "some time ago" where you're a new recruit of the order of whatevershamagnaghyrm and being taught by your Dark Knight master to do stuff. You do your normal quests there but the only people in this "small" area would also be other dark knights. Quests involve doing dark knight stuff, to get you used to the skills, tanking stuff and what not, think of the class quests in the current game, but instead of being spread every 5levels, they're all at once. You acquire skills in groups and gain levels pretty quickly from 45 to 50(or 1 to 50, whatever), at which point the story ends with you becoming the new leader of the order because some dragon killed everyone else, and now you're seeking revenge and head to land of Ishgard where you hear shit's going down. Story now merges back with all the other classes and you virtually "start at 50", but you should have a semi decent understanding of your skills, without replaying old content.

This is what they did with Death Knights in WoW during WotlK launch and I think it was great. After that though, since it was several expansions in, they redid all the vanilla content during Cataclysm so it kinda made sense to not bother since a lot of people hadn't experienced all that new content and the experience was a lot more streamlined for fast leveling than in the original. That'd be like removing all the dungeon runs from the story quests, making them solo instances instead and increasing the xp rewards by a lot so you level a lot faster. Actually, they could also do that instead, less content to create this way(you just take the existing dungeons, start near the end and balance the boss for soloing).

Use this site http://ffxivchocobo.com/

Find out how many of which fruits you need to reach the color you want. Then you get all of those fruits, and force-feed your chocobo all of them in a rotating fashion (ex. apple -> pineapple -> pear -> apple repeat etc.). After that you don't touch your chocobo for 6 hours. Leave it in the stable and don't take it out until you interact with the stable and confirm a color change.

Being a new player and having an expansion coming out soon leaves me with trying to figure out what to do once I get 50. I'm 23 now and can't decide if I should even try gearing my white mage at 50 or just work on leveling every class to 50 so that once it comes out I just have 10 levels to do on each class and gearing.

I would try to get one of the classes you enjoy to lvl 50 then gear this one for endgame content as much as possible before worrying about lvling all of them. If you start spreading your time between all classes early on you'll burn out because of a feeling of stagnation after a while.

One of my friends irl recently started this game, and it's been tempted me to return myself. The issue is my server (Excalibur) is full and he can't create a character on that. How often is Excalibur full? I've been checking the character creation restrictions and it usually has an "X" by it meaning it's not possible. :( I really can't believe they still have character restrictions on servers this long after the game released. I'd rather they release those restrictions and just bring the queue back.

Anyways, I'm not sure if I want to return if I can't use my old character to play with him. Starting over from scratch not only sucks, but it means I won't be on the server as my old friends that I used to play with.

Not to mention, I don't know if I want to get back into a MMO because it usually makes me ignore every other game I'm playing. D:

Also, is GAF still on Ultros? Is that a populated server and worth coming to if I *do* start over?

Now that you bring that up... yeah that's correct.

Good to know, thanks. And according to that diagram right below, 4o'oclock works ok for the first one on two of the three patterns, as long as everyone else is near the middle or cheating to the other side.

Thank you for this post. After checking out the site you linked and a guide I've finally decided to color my chocobo. Bought all the necessary fruit for ~70k and spent 10 minutes force feeding it to my bird. If RNG is nice, I should have a slick black chocobo in a few hours.

Moggle Extreme seems like a pain in the ass

If you get a group on mumble and you communicate well the fight itself is pretty straightforward. Tons of shit happening but it's sorta manageable.

In DF it's just a massive pain unless you get the odd super competent group of people.

It can be. I've wiped at literally under 1% health before. That DPS race at the end can be rough

The annoying about Mog ex is if an overzealous dps kills a Moogle too early at the end you're dead. Leads to lots of those late wipes. Other than that it's not too bad.

I remember clearing it on my second try with a DF party while not knowing what exactly us happing, but since everyone was leaving moggles at very low hp I just rolled with it.

Having not played ARR since 2.0 (quit before 2.1 launched), can you change your GC chocobo color now? Or is there chocobo breeding/raising now that lets you make a different colored chocobo? I haven't kept up with anything with this game really.

You can feed them fruits to change their colors yeah. Lots of different ones. You can also increase chocobo level past 10 now, up to 20, which lets you max every chocobo skills. No breeding yet, though chocobo racing is coming in 2.5something.

LiQuid!

I proudly and openly admit to wishing death upon the mothers of people I don't like
The early pull butthurt is actually so strong in this game and it's even worse on the weekend. It's annoying when someone pulls when there are only 5 people standing at the target (someone named Himura Kenshin does this constantly), but when there are 3+ groups hunting and there are at least 25+ people standing at the target and someone pulls, it's kind of your own fault if you didn't get there on time.

Reverse blade swords don't usually pull aggro.

Oh that's cool. Have they made it easier to level up your chocobos yet? It was a pain when I played - took way too much grinding. And can you use your chocobo (like in your party) while wanting to duty finder?
