After VIT and STR, what stat would you recommend I go for (melding primarily) as paladin while levelling? Acc, Dex, Parry, Det, Skill Speed, or Crit? Right now I plopped in a bunch of dex following one guide, but it's difficult for me to know which information is up to date and accurate.

I guess it might not matter all that much at this point, but as my paladin is a secondary job I'm levelling to play with a friend it's often on the min level for a dungeon and I'd like to make the most out of the gear I have. Currently I'm level 35.

Melding while leveling really isn't necessary. As long as you keep your armor up to date you should be fine. You really don't need to meld anything unless you are melding high level accessories or i110 armor.

Crazy to get confirmation that this isn't just me. Out of nowhere I have been randomly dropping combos even after my skills hit and go on cooldown.

Yup. This hit me last night in t12 but not the rest of the party. I lost Bennu agro on two different runs before I noticed the combo notification kept being late.

Nope. The pollen releasing visual indicator is at the start of the blighted casting time . At least it doesn't insta-kill like it used to.

I've found that I have to stop moving/attacking before 3/4 of the casting time is finished or I get hit by it anyway. Dat latency.

Oh does the pollen release at the start? I thought he meant the stuff that covers the screen at the end. Yeah if you leave it too late you will get hit even though you have stopped by the time it actually goes out.

I think the 'advanced' player expects/assumes way too much of the 'average' MMO player/pug. Chances are s/he's just mashing buttons and having fun. Can't tell them anything though, because either they don't care or are too offended to accept any advice.

Absolutely this. There's so many things people who've played the game for at least one full patch cycle take for granted that people starting out or not putting as much time into the game simply have no hope of knowing, like microtimings, autoattacks or just something as trivial as focus targetting or that killing a mob together splits the credit.

I honestly can't tell these days if people eat Blighted because they missed the cast or if they just want to push max DPS and give the healers something to do.

Oh Bouquet doesn't insta kill any long?
I haven't done T6 in months.

I bet it buffs you now :3

It does damage but is easily manageable. If a tank get hit by it, it hardly does any damage at all. DPS and healers usually end up with lower hp, but not enough to insta kill someone (usually).

My first 1 hour+ DF queue. Somebody hold me.

I think it's time to get serious about tanking.

The pollen is released at the start of the cast and it explodes at the end of the cast.

While all that is true, most of that difference is in the 90 to 100% DPS range for their gear and not really the 40 to 50% DPS range that many people do. Which is where you get the weird situation of people going "I NEED THAT FOR MY DPS" while also missing half their rotation. Honestly, I think people focus too much on these sorts of things instead of working their basics up; DoT clipping, buff timing, 100% auto-attacks, BiS options, etc. are far less important than knowing your optimum rotation.

I'll DPS through Blighted if my GCD refresh coincides with the end of the cast. If it doesn't, I'll eat the lost auto-attack.

if Korra is healing, I'll take the damage just to hear him complain

#1 reason to look forward to welfare sands in 2.5 is opening up dye options.

And neither are most the other things brought up, yet people focus on those when looking for advice outside the game. First and foremost is the rotation yet that seems to be taken for granted as "well, I'm doing that right already."

My view is that Ingenuity is a useless skill for 3 star and above, I know some top crafters that feel the same way. It's just too much CP for very little benefit. On 1 and 2 star it would save you a step in what are guaranteed rotations, so it definitely still has a place there.

Think of RS the same as a HT. Do you reclaim if you fail 1? Probably not. 2? Nope. In my rotation I need to fail more than 4 for a guaranteed Reclaim.

When you reclaim depends a lot on what you're making as well. Artisan Sandals? NQ can still be melded to max stats and the mats are pretty expensive, so I probably would never Reclaim. I'd rather just eat the extra cost of melding the NQ than risk losing the mats. Same with base materials like Kirimu Leather. You start at 0 and it's not absolutely required to HQ to make the final craft, so I never Reclaim as well (though I have gotten to 100% quality even on a normal Byregot, so it is possible).

Now the actual kirimu sets for example are useless NQ, so you need to be more aggressive with your reclaims. Same with the turn ins for the 4 star books. You're gonna be reclaiming a lot.

All in all I probably don't reclaim as much as I should. If I'm close I roll the dice on getting a good Byregot more than I should probably and if I don't it's too late to Reclaim. Maybe you should be more disciplined than me and set a number of failed touches (including RS) after which you reclaim no matter what (use a simulator, even though they're not all that accurate at 4 star).

Agreed on Ingenuity. I've dropped it for other skills now.

Do you not use Rumination? If you don't get a required good for Byregot's you can just hit Rumination and Reclaim. I've always taken a synth to right before the Byregot's step to decide whether to Reclaim or not and have always had enough CP to do it with Rumination.

I don't think there's anything you can meld a primary stat to while leveling. If you meld VIT or STR it will say something like this item's level is too low to take advantage of that materia or some such and you'll see a STR + 0 in red in the display. That means that even if you meld that materia your stats won't increase.

That said, you really don't need to meld anything before 50 and even then just the crafted i110 stuff or the crafted i90 accessories (but not right now, since new ones are coming out soon). You should have the white HQ weapon for your level if you haven't gotten a purple or green one and that's pretty much it. Upgrade the rest as you can, but don't break the bank doing it.

Your telling me. I have NO problem helping or explaining things. People don't want to listen. Was leveling MNK and got Ifrit NM for my roulette. Tank was LITERALLY running in circles around Ifrit making it absolutely goddamn impossible to get any positional attacks in.

On top of that nobody hit the nail except me. We died several times. After nicely explaining the mechanics three times and everyone ignoring me. I sat the controller down and just walked away leaving them to their own devices.

I've fallen asleep synthing tokens, fat fingered a button and HQ'd on a 8% quality.
Oh-shit-Im-okay.gif

Wish that happened all the time.

I feel at that level people simply don't see the need to learn, the story fights can be tough if you're in an all-new party but how often does that happen? Most people get carried through to the level 50 content, I've noticed Crystal Tower is where most of the people who may not have the basics down will start to speak up and ask for real advice.

The Training Hall is coming apparently.

Since the Striking Dummies have, as an example, about 100,000 HP, and you can see how much damage you’ve done, is there any way that people can see their DPS in the game?

Yoshida: We don’t want to add something where a whole party can see each person’s DPS. It’s taking a while, but when we add the Training Hall, we hope to include this. There will be a particular training challenge which will work on maximizing DPS, and I think this will be in patch 3.1.

;__;

I definitely need that haha, NIN is the first DPS I've played at cap level in an MMO and I probably suck so bad.

Though my teams have consistently been winning the Atomos fight in CT so I'm gonna say I'm actually amazing.

I want to, but I don't know what to take out to afford putting it in. I only have LTW at 4 star and there really isn't space for it.

The must have skills are:

ALC: ToT, CZ.
ARM: RS, PbP
CRP: Byregot
CUL, HT, SH2, Reclaim
LTW: WN2 or WN (depending on rotation, but at least 1 IMO).
WVR: CS2

So that's 10. BSM and GSM don't get to add any others. LTW can add 1 more and I usually go for Innovation. It's really pretty good to try to get Byregot on good. It's like a supercharged Observe.

I think I will definitely use it when I try for my 4 star books on some of the other classes.

Despite FFXIV being one of, if not THE, largest source of continued revenue Square Enix has right now, it never feels like it's getting a sufficient allocation of funds. I mean, what with features and such constantly having to be delayed, Yoshida talking about how they couldn't do X in Y amount of time with their current development team, etc etc.

Training hall not hitting until 3.1 is probably more of that. To be fair though, there really are bigger priorities. Getting the expansion finished, making the Alexander raid good, Gold Saucer, etc etc.

I have a really specific question about how the FF14 license works. This is also an example of how Sony's account system kind of sucks. Here are the basics:

  1. Bought FF14 for PS3 when it was on sale for $10 in December 2013.
  2. When FF14 came out on PS4, I got the upgrade for free.
  3. I played for a while, and then deleted it from my PS4 at some point.
  4. In October 2014, I wanted to redownload FF14 and play again.
  5. Somehow, it let me put FF14 in my cart, despite the fact that I already owned it.
  6. I accidentally bought it. (My mistake, I was buying something else and just buttoning through, not realizing FF14 was in my cart.)
  7. I got on chat support immediately and told them I bought it by mistake, and I shouldn't even have been able to, since I already owned it.
  8. After going back and forth, they granted me a $40 refund and removed the license from my account (mistake).
  9. Now I don't "own" the game anymore. But when I go to the purchase screen on the PS4 store, I also cannot buy the game because I'm told that I already own it.
  10. But there is no download button. So basically I cannot buy it, and I also cannot download it.
  11. I called them and they said yeah, they messed up, but there's no way to restore the license, nor is there any way for me to buy it digitally again. Ever. They recommended I buy the disc-based version.
They did refund me the $10 originally spent on the PS3 version. So at this point I not out any money. But I can never buy the digital version which is pain.

While I don't own the license for the game anymore, the online store still thinks I own it. I'm wondering what will actually happen if I buy a new disc-based version of the game. It comes with a code, right? Where do I enter that code? And how do I know that when I enter that code, it's not going to say "You already own this game so you can't put the code in"?

Waste Not and Waste Not II are only good for situations where you're not going to be using a Tricks of the Trade on a Good, such as macros. Once you start using Waste Not stacks on ToT, the CP/Durability ratio sucks. I don't have either of those two skills as cross-class.

There probably is a big missed opportunity in not making welfare upgrade items earned via Training Hall performance. They could just gradually lower the bar for rewards.

In addition to that i wish they'd spend some time of making bigger areas with special / elite mobs like WoW used to have also loot chests that would contain useable or cool stuff / money.

I think they should look a bit at vanilla WoW and copy that.

I can't be sure on the disk part, but does the store think you own both the CE and regular versions? They're seperate licenses; when I did the PS3->PS4 upgrade and wanted to get back PS3 access I wound up having to buy the PS3 CE since Sony's store thought I owned the regular PS3 version already (this was a disc purchase; so I'm not sure your disc alternative would work.)

Could you try downloading the free trial?

While I've never played Vanilla WoW, or any WoW for that matter, I'm a bit dubious of any call to make this game more like Vanilla Wow. Mostly because of Wildstar turning out to be a bit of a flop.

That said, yeah it'd be nice if there were a few areas that were challenging to explore at level 60 in the expansion. Do keep in mind though, that ilvl will eventually do away with any overworld challenge we see at level 60. They can't exactly make mobs scale with your gear after all.

Console players can ask someone else to parse for them?

They can ask for their number but they'll still need to know what that means in the grand scheme of things. Like will it have some rank at the end or something?

200 dps - You might want to use a skill besides auto-attack

300 dps - you need to get better

Though that won't tell them how they are doing in an actual fight.

Actually, this brings up an interesting thought.

Is the training room going to scale it's goals with gear? I mean, if they don't then players will eventually be able to get good scores with just better gears. I hope they take that into account.
