Good thing he has 396 of them.

Also, they're all HQ.

Generally speaking, loldrg stuff is rare and mostly an old joke. Just to be "that guy" I guess, if it's being seriously thrown at you a lot, you may actually be doing something wrong.
I posted about it before:

To be fair, this was the worst of it, but I get "LOLDRG" stuff like 2-3 times a week. If I'm doing anything wrong it's that I'm doing a lot of new (to me) content for the first time so I don't really know the tricks and patterns for all of the bosses. I did Syrcus tower the other day for the first time and the boss with the wolf heads there's a part where you have to join together in some protective AOE and I was the only person in the entire raid that was actually just standing on the boss attacking while everybody else was safe. I didn't die and I made my 2 friends that were with me laugh, but like there's no way I can know this stuff going into a brand new encounter with nobody trying to explain stuff to me.

Later on in Syrcus there was a part where someone got marked with a big dark AOE and the idea was (I learned after the fact) to gather together in it to protect everyone, but I saw a big, dark AOE around myself and my intuition was that a dark AOE would harm people around me so I was running away from everyone and I got killed. Ha ha, very funny, but again, how do I know without looking like an idiot that one time first? You spend dozens of hours in the game learning that AOEs on the ground are bad, except for that one in a hundred time when it's good...?

I don't think being a dragoon has anything to do with it, but I'm a noob that does noob shit. I can't help it. Being a dragoon just makes me a juicier target I guess

Haha, oh man.

I converted around 10 Sealants and stuck them at a price I felt comfortable with on the market (basically the 300k range) and I'm going to stock close to another stack for the patch. We'll see~

The Sealants are funny, I've been a broker of sorts. I loaned players Sealants, since it's basically tied to a time bottleneck. I have a few more coming in before 2.5 haha

When 2.4 hit players had saved all their Oaknots, not sure if it will be the same in 2.5 since so many are required for end-game crafting gear. At the start of 2.4 I bought many for 100K - 175K... and currently on Ultros they are 225K. One of the rare cases where it's increased between patches.

Do you tell people you are new at the start? Ask for explanation? People will always assume you know the fight unless you say something.

For later tougher content (that can't be explained quickly), you really need to look up explanations of fights beforehand. If you want to experience it blind then start a learning PF for it.

If you see everyone else disengage from the boss, why wouldn't you and follow suit. It's a long cast and I'm amazed if you just tunneled the fact that none of the other 20 odd people were standing at the boss anymore.

Read quick battle previews? Ask your party for boss strats (including the friends you went with)? Notice 23 other people stacking in the dark circles?

If you want to go in blind and learn by doing, there's nothing wrong with that, but it's inevitable you will make funny mistakes and people will laugh at you. DRG jokes are arguably helpful here because they're cracks aimed at a longstanding joke in the community with no inherent malice, as opposed to people just lol noobing you.

If this sort of thing harms your experience, you can always read up first? It's sort of weird combined with your earlier complaint about 'wasted' time in DF, since most of this stuff isn't tuned to be beaten without some understanding of the mechanics, so going in blind is drastically increasing your chances of failure.

Me doing Hildebrand quests:

Click NPC
Skip cutscene
Teleport to another NPC 1 zone away
Click NPC
Skip cutscene
Teleport back to original NPC
repeat x infinity

Oh, now I have to use the Duty Finder to continue this stupid quest?
*waits in DF for 5 hours*
Bumbles thru encounter, learning nothing
Goes back to clicking NPCs and skipping cutscenes

There isn't even a reward for doing these things. They're literal wastes of time.

You're not alone. Hildebrand is dumb.

Yeah, it seems super obvious after the fact but at the time I didn't really notice anything amiss or I was too focused on pressing my buttons in the right order or something. I dunno. It was just weird taking a bunch of damage and then turning around and seeing everybody looking at me.

There are actually a lot of things vying for your attention during most fights in this game. Watching cooldowns, boss cast bars, the party window, text chat, not to mention the actual game area where you're bombarded with particle effects that look like they're designed specifically to cause epilepsy... All of that on top of an encounter with new and unfamiliar mechanics.

This stuff doesn't really negatively effect my experience (aside from that one time I had to requeue for a dungeon because I got kicked) and it goes away after the 2nd-3rd time I do some content and patterns that used to baffle me become second nature, so I don't feel like I have to go out of my way to study rather than go in blind.

There is one exception tho. That cyclops/ogre boss derivative with a large club. There's one in Aurum Vale, a notorious monster/FATE version in Coerthas, and another one in one of the HM dungeons (Halatali maybe?) that manages to kill me every single time I fight him. The one where he does the 1,000 tonze swing or whatever. Every time I fight him I go out of my way to watch his cast bar to try and dodge that damn attack and I still manage to eat it at least once every fight. Maybe I am just hopeless.

If they gave Hildebrand his own game, I'd buy it at this point, even if it was only a visual novel...

...actually, that's an idea. Get on it Square!

I looked up the video of the Ultros fight. Yeah I'm not looking forward to doing that fight.

It's really not a bad fight. Just put up a PF and advertise a Soldiery bonus.

...uh, might have to wait til 2.5 for the Soldier bonus though.

Unless they hotfixed and I missed it, you can cheese the hell out of it provided one of the eight people in the party can intentionally jump out of the ring at the right time.

I have done this in DF more than once when it pops up in roulette; I give the party a few legit attempts and then just start breaking the fight.

Ultros on DF is garbage. Fail, fail, someone explains the mechanics who someone who isn't aware, fail again, fail again.

The aqualung hit area is needlessly tight and too many tanks position Ultros horribly during the typhoon spin part.

Not sure how you can get this to work. I have like sub-25 ping and have yet to ever jump out. I tried doing shoulder tackle as well but no go ;_;

Yeah we tried doing it the right way with a few people from the FC then eventually we cheesed it because the second phase is very hard to not screw up. Once you're past that phase the fight is super easy. I'm not sure the cheesing was intentional but we made it anyway so yay.

My ping is much higher, and I can usually pull it off. Just takes some trial and error to get the timing right.

I have a terrible ping and occasionally botch the timing, but what I'm talking about isn't hard. If Typhon has stacks, go to the edge of the arena and wait until the cast bar is getting close to full. Walk off the edge, eat the stun, if you time it right your stun drops off as the other 7 get blown into stun. Since it's not a full-party stun, no wipe. I've done it on BRD and PLD at least, can't remember if I've had to as WHM. Only thing to note is that you will have all the aggro until the tanks get back on.

Oh. I never heard of that but that sounds easier than just trying to jump out the second you were blown in. Regardless, I plan to never play that trial again so shrug ~

And have been playing this while waiting for queues and stuff

Do servers open up for new characters only every few hours when the website updates, or do they open up randomly and the website just updates showing what's open at the time?

I'd like to know this also. I just finished my character, but can't start bc I'd like to get on the Ultros server to join up with people here and elsewhere. I assume the game won't save my character if I quit either.

I think you can save character's looks as a preset at the end of the creator, if that's what you mean.

You thought the point of the fight was getting hit by that blow mechanic instead of not getting hit by it? Why would that imp mechanic exist then lol.

Ah, my mistake. It did. Well, I guess I'm gonna be waiting for now.

This will be my first MMO pretty much, so any class recommendations for beginners? I want to try monk, but from what I've read it's not exactly easy to play. Guess I'm mostly interested in DPS, but open try out a tank.

I did this the other day, just as a random thing. I didn't think it would work, but when the fight continued I was like "O_O".

Well I get paid tomorrow so I should make my return then. Hopefully I can get some playtime before work but I know I'm gonna have to do some updating for 2.4 on.

Not getting hit by the blow, but jumping out to avoid it. I've only done it once as a tank so I had no idea how the imp mechanics worked att

Is Ultros still where most of GAF is? Getting back into the game now that it's on sale on ps4 and needing to transfer since all my friends have moved there, figured I might try and piggy back a gaf guild into it

I've got a 50 bard and am working on a tank right now, but I haven't played since launch and you had to like, get 1 stone a week for dark light armor or wtfever

Is there a quick path to get to current content?

You can't kill Ultrosgaf, you can only contain it. But a good chunk of gaf is there but there are others scattered on other servers.

I would guess probably 90% or more of GAF is on Ultros.

Today I have seen the light past Golems in T9, and it is good.

...For about one second before there was a raid-wide wipe and everyone in the DF party rage quit. I'm going to brush up on T9 videos, and I really think I can clear it before the weekend if I'm persistent enough in DF/PFing.

Tome system still in place, it's just jumped up in item level. You can get i100-i110 range pretty fast if you are dedicated. If the patch next week follows usual trend, it will be even easier since they will buff the tome drop rate for the non weekly capped tomes(the capped ones are i120-130). There's also more avenues for gear outside of just tomes then at launch, with the two(soon three) crystal tower instances as well as hunts.

You can do pretty much all current content sans maybe the final two turns in full i110 too, so in other words, yeah you can jump into current content fairly fast if you want to.

I clearly make up the other ten percent.
Did you already transfer off again, I'm starting to think you and Frumix are the same person and just screwing with us with name changes.

Just picked up the game due to the PSN Sale and I'm LOST. Any online guides to help out beginners out there? I spent a while just running around Gridania with my midget and it seemed fun so far.

I just got my chocobo to rank 10 and unlocked the white mage barding.

Does anybody know if can use a reagan pepper to reallocate SP without losing the barding? (meaning it's not tied to healer rank 10, just unlocked there). Also is it possible to unlock the other 2 sets of barding if I keep leveling him up with thavwhatever onions? I'm going to keep leveling him regardless, but it would be cool to have all 3 sets of unlocked barding sometime in the far future.

if you just started, basically you should just level up by doing quests
connect with all the aetheride crystals in your starting city! do it by right clicking the crystals, you can find out where they are from the map while inside the city
once you've reached other cities, connecting with crystals should be the 1st thing you do as well
in areas outside cities, right click to connect with that area's crystal as well

You won't lose the barding if you pepper him. You can unlock the other two sets by leveling im past 10, yes. I got WHM first and DRG armor around rank 16 or so. Should have the last barding set when he hits 20 this week or next.
