So I recently resubbed (they finally let you add Crysta via Paypal now, yay). I haven't played the game since just before 2.1 released, so I'm way out of the loop on everything going on now.

Is there a guide I can use to get caught up? What should I be doing? Most of my gear is ilvl90 from Turns 1-4 of Coils (I'm currently ilevel88; my raiding group didn't beat Turn 5 before 2.1 came out which was after I quit). I found the start of the main scenario missions, so I'll start doing those now. I need to unlock a lot of stuff like new dungeons, but i'm not sure where to go for that information.

Any help would be appreciated.

Oh man, this is good. I was b*tching when they nerfed ATMA just after I did it but now I'm like: nerf that sh*t. I learned my lesson and slowed down to be in synch with the nerf wave. I'll happily farm FATEs for alex.

What is this mystery trial though? They wouldn't have all this secrecy unless it was something really good or it would be a big let down. I'm dying to know.

Just realized this is a patch with no HM and EX versions of the same primal. Weird!

Prepare for disappointment! They hide innocent quest names for spoilers, I'm fully expecting this to be Omega and they're just not saying because spoilers.

Then we could get Omega EX in 2.55 or something.

Oh yeah it's probably just withheld for story reasons. I thought they were just preparing a nice surprise for us.

There is a helpful guide for content listed by level (and then ilvl once at lvl 50) here.

However, if you want to think of content less in terms of level and more in terms of just things you might want to do, you can go through the crazy amount of additional story since 2.1 (Mog King, Leviathan (2.2), Ramuh (2.3), Shiva (2.4)). Nowadays it might be difficult to get a queue for Crystal Tower (2.1), but Syrcus Tower (2.3) should be easier to get into. An assortment of grindy crafting and gathering activities have been added, as well as the Fishing War Against RNG known as Big Fishing. Large scale PvP is available in the form of Frontlines. Obscure endgame rage has been added as the Sightseeing Log. For non-duty combat activities there's beastman dailies (lol) but those will take forever, and hunts, which are helpful for gearing up a bit. Of course if you feel up to leveling a new class, Rogue/Ninja is available.

I swear Yoshi specifically said in the Japanese Live letter that there were going to be separate lockouts in WoD for gear and upgrade items. Could be wrong though.

Also: Alex nerf, yay! I have to do fates? nooooo

Thanks for that guide as well as the other information. :) I think I'd like to experience all the older content I missed (at least once). I also started leveling Rogue which seems pretty fun so far.

Q3: Will the rewards for the new chapter of Crystal Tower include the materials needed to enhance Ironworks equipment?

A3: We’ll introduce the upgrade items as loot, but they will be separate from the weekly reward since players were having trouble deciding which piece of loot that they wanted last time.

I do wonder what impact if any this will have on rank IV materia. If it's post-Nerf Atma drop rates, getting Alex will be stupid easy especially since you can do it in whatever zone. I guess it depends on if there are people with money who just didn't want to mess around with the daily.

Yep, so what's the best zone to fate grind in? Whatever it is, it's about to be swamped with people next Tuesday.

Wonder if there's any change to the books.

The books are what's keeping me from my 3rd Zodiac, not Alex or Light grinds.

Well low level zones tend to be best as the downsyncing doesn't hurt and in fact makes it faster. I assume shit like middle la noscea is probably going to be the place to grind Alex in.

No list of items, though. I was hoping to know if Odin-san would be giving us anything interesting. I assume the Kirin mount is from him... UNLESS

This has to be personal preference. I tend to just tool around in Middle La Noscea because it's easy to get around, there's usually very few people there, zero chance of slow/heavy, and the FATES themselves are so brain dead I can fall asleep during them.

No idea if it's where pro FATE grinders go, though. Beast tribe areas would have the advantage of no level sync but are more annoying in general.

I think they're out of easy book nerfs, though. They don't really need to be cheaper, there just needs to be... Less of them? Or less content in them? And I don't think that's as easy as cranking up the probability on drops or increasing light rewards. FATE adjustments helped but short of having them constantly up they'll still suck, and I'm not sure if they want to heavily adjust mob spawn distribution because it seems like you end up killing everything over the 9 books, so increasing the number of type A and decreasing type B would be a problem.

They kind of screwed themselves with the original design of books. Most of what comes after can be nerfed wih minor effort, but fixing books kind of requires substantial alterations to the entire book step

Just buffing the Fate spawn times would help quite a bit. Everything else is not that bad imo, but waiting over an hour for just one fate is brutal.

The problem I see with this is, like, Coerthas. There are multiple book FATES there, plus I think a CT unlock FATE, plus Svara, plus potentially seasonal stuff. You can only have so many FATES up at once, and if nobody does a given FATE it takes 15 minutes to time out.

I don't know how well the FATE system could adapt to guaranteeing fast spawns of all he FATES needed in the zone. Weighting them all the same would still lead to situations of RNG screwing with you.

Kirin is most likely from the Pony quest.

Most likely case is that it's for the World of Darkness weapons. Long shot option is used to dye Allagan/High Allagan gear, though I honestly don't see why people think this.

Really just about making the Fates for them far more common. I seem to recall some mention of changes to the way some of the Fates work but don't know if anything is coming to 2.5 for that.

It's mostly just that the books have a step to them that is about actively not doing anything and that's a horribly unfun mechanic. As bad as other steps are to people, you're at least doing content fairly constantly and not avoiding doing things.

Hmm that's a good point. I am not sure how you would fix that. At the very least, they should have some sort of system that notifies you when a chosen fate pops. That would make the wait far more bearable if I could do other things while waiting like with dungeons.

Ah yeah, WoD weapons could make sense, for sure. I wonder if it'll be raid drop or a party drop. Hopefully it's on a separate lockout or something, because otherwise... I mean...

It's funny, actually. CT launched and people grabbed stuff for vanity because most of it was meh or at least 10 ilevels under current myth gear.

ST launched and most of the shit was absolutely hideous, but it was pretty much the same as CT. Then they gave out oils/sands/tomes and all of the gear started falling to the floor.

Now we're looking at a potential WoD that can drop tomes/twine/coat/catalysts and gear. If only they would split some of these drops up in other places instead of into a single raid. I know that twine/tomes/coats will probably come in 2.51 or something, but I dunno. Feels weird.

They should just reduce the numbers of fate needed or even better, remove the book step altogether. It doesn't take very long to do overall, but it's the most unfun and boring thing ever.

They should just give us the final relics wrapped up in a gift box and mail it to our inbox. On top of that it should come with a free T9 weapon and a T13 carry amirite?

Did the end of the story last night. It was hilarious because half the people seemed to be there form the duty roulette with OP items. They simply wanted to rush it through and they threw a fit because some people were watching the cutscenes. At some point some were lost but they initiated the fight against Nero anyway so we were like only 4 for the boss. The white mage was OP because I was barely taking any damage for the last boss.

Plot and voice acting are really hilarious in this game.

I know this isn't seriouss but that's not what I meant, I don't care about having to do boring repetitive stuff for my relics, I just want it to feel proactive. The books involve camping fates for hours without doing much else because those fates only last 3-4 minutes when they're up. It's the worst kind of roadblock.

So many options here:

- They're there but part of the normal lockout and so nobody will be rolling on WoD gear for weeks
- They're there but part of a new system not included in the prelim patch notes because of reasons
- They're not in WoD but are in hunts because 2.3 was great and we should totally go back to people bailing on raids or primals or whatever whenever an S rank pops
- They're being withheld until 2.51 because YoshiP wants to hurt me

I would honestly be surprised if it's the first or third; the second seems possible given how recently the seperated looting was confirmed so it'd be soon to reverse position. But I'm preparing for the last option because, well.

Hopefully they're just holding back more info. Seems strange to not just drop in at least drop in the gear upgrades into WoD though... Or at least the basic weapon tomes.

So I went and looked up the 2.3 prelim notes:

- Rewards in Syrcus Tower
You can receive only one reward item per week for completing duties in Syrcus Tower. In the event you are awarded an item from the loot list, you relinquish your right to vie for all remaining items regardless of whether you selected Need or Greed. If time expires and a reward item is obtained automatically, this will also count toward the weekly limit.
* Reward eligibility is reset every Tuesday at 8:00 (GMT).

2.5 notes are just copied word for word with modification to the instance name and that's it. Not sure conclusions can be drawn yet.
