Depends on the server. Keep trying at random times. The more odd the better your chances.

Maybe all of these staticless GAF/Ultros people who actually want to raid could band together.
Just a thought.
We'll call this... Operation Fat Cat Raiding.

I think that's how Statics are born actually. Just a matter of finding a ring leader, and eight players that mesh well together.

I did a DF run of Shiva EX with a friend and the other tank asked me if I could solo tank or 'will I have to put on my VIT accs'. I decided to go with 2-tanking and midway through the fight he began fighting me for aggro of shiva at bow and between phases. At the end he started talking shit about how he's been solo tanking shiva forever blah blah if you can't solo tank you suck blah blah. I'm no stranger to solo-tanking, but I'll take dual tanking Shiva any day over solo.

So I want to ask tank-GAF, do you prefer solo or dual tanking for Shiva?

Every time I do solo tanking, the average damage I receive with debuffs at 8 is 2.5k per normal hit and almost up to 5k per critical. I can mitigate a lot of it with a couple CDs per phase but the healers still have to be on-point with making sure my HP doesn't fall below 70% because when awareness isn't up there's a good chance I can get a large chunk of hp taken out by any random critical, CD-reduced damage or not. It's stressful both on healers and me, and the time difference of completion is what, a minute at best from the normal 2-tank method. Add in the fact that any random crit can wipe me either by a convenient crit just as I'm popping awareness (has happened) or as the healers are popping me with benediction (has happened) or the healers are casting AoE heals during the absolute zero spam and shiva crits me (has happened), there's too many liabilities IMO to make solo-tank worthwhile.

I only did Shiva EX run with the solo-tank method. However, such method is indeed very risky if the tank dies and the healers follow suit (though I saved a run more than once with a good LB 3 Bard). Furthermore, you need a very well geared tank (I would say ilvl 110 bare minimum), and reactive healers (and that is assuming everyone is avoiding AoE correctly ~ I met a bunch of terrible players yesterday and the day before that, including a Dragoon who managed to get hit by every single Icicle Impact - yes, even the ones who pop before Shiva switches to staff or sword in P3. Actually, he stopped attacking altogether when Icicle Impact popped, including in P1. He was that bad).

Overall, I think that the solo-tanking method is fine, but requires very good tank and healers. Otherwise, it is undeniably safer to go with 2 tanks (unless your group is unable to kill the golems in P2 in time - but in that case, your DPS are the problem).

Solo tanking is fine, war and pld are able to do it. Just make sure you rotate your cooldowns on the bow phase and when you get max'd on staff exposure.

Ive always done it solo and yeah decent healers are a must not the ones that take a nap between every heal. Also one of the most boring fights ever.

Would it be advisable to get the discounted ff14 game from psn given that an expansion is due soon? it's 20 bucks for the base game on PSN right now

Edit: I guess I'm asking if it's a good deal to get the game now and expansion later

I've solo and dual tanked Shiva and I think I prefer the two tank method because you end up with less potential wipes. You really do need your healers to be on point with solo tank, because it's hard to mitigate damage when she's slapping you for approximately a metric shit ton every swing. I also feel you have to get a little lucky, since if she stays staff for longer periods of time, obviously it's not going to be as huge of an issue opposed to switching weapons every round.

Solo tanking that fight, I feel, is more about the healers than the tank.

There's no real benefit to Solo Tanking Shiva, when there is already a second tank in your party.

Furthermore, that's hecka rude! If this guy was so set on single tank, he should have created a PF for one. Trying to force it in a random DF group is just, well, rude!

It's cheaper to buy the PS3 version and upgrade to PS4, in general. You might need a PS3 to actually activate the account though, I'm still unsure about that, I grabbed one myself and waiting for it to arrive this week or so. If you can confirm that and don't have a PS3, then yeah it's probably a good idea, though I'd expect them to do a sale on the base game when the expansion releases, or a bundle of sorts. If you still have a PS3, look on Amazon or something for a physical copy of the PS3 game, they usually go for 10bucks or less.

Upgrading works until march 31st.

I prefer solo tanking Shiva. There's no benefit from the second Tank, really, and in my experience it usually just ends up adding a point of failure with the swap. Shiva's damage output is low enough, even at max stacks, that all it really takes is one decent healer and a proper cooldown rotation to handle the damage to the tank. 8 stack Shiva on the swap isn't that much worse than a 4th Weapon Shiva due to her inherent damage stacks anyway so it's not like she's throwing out unrecoverable amounts of damage.

That said, it's also mostly just because it's easier to start a group with a single tank since no waiting around for someone else to tank it.

Yes, you have to login at least once on your ps3 for the transfer to work.

What are the top raid foods for each class these days? Thinking of adopting a raid team and making raid food and potions.

Can kinda see based on the "wish list" foods. Apkallu Omelette(crit vit accuracy), Flint Caviar(same stats but higher, new food), Lava Toad legs(acc vit crit, for people missing accuracy), black truffle risotto(det vit crit), Triple cream coffee(piety vit det), Bacon Bread(parry vit crit).

Potions kinda depends, X ether and Mega Ether seems liked though for X I think it's normals that drop from chests and stuff since they're annoying to craft and expensive. Potent Poisonning potions sell ok. Then Xpotion of str/dex/int.

I understand that training PF groups for Coil are aimed at people who haven't cleared those turns, but it would be awesome if everyone at least read about the gimmicks.
I wasted 40 minutes on T10 today because a loldrg :)P) was constantly dying and kept running around in the electric field left by the adds instead of attacking the boss among other things.

And Sachertorte for BLMs, spell speed and crit.

Yeah, like Pyros said, most people I know use Risotto, Coffee, Sachertorte, Bacon Bread. Apkallu Omelette yeah, Lava Toad Legs I guess, but only if you really need accuracy like Kagari does because she refuses to respec her bow into something useful.

And X Pots of Strength/Dex/Int are pretty useful. Not sure if anyone bothers with Mind, though.

Those Emperor Fish are a pain in the arse, basically the same but a few of the new 4* food as well. Do you get all the benefits from the food? I remember a time where certain food wasn't good cause you couldn't get full benefits.

Most of the 4 star food is actually pretty worthless in that regard, unless your goal is to get that 3-4 extra vit. Most of the food takes 600+ crit/acc or like 500+ det/pie to get the full benefit of, none of which are even close to possible even in full bis. Like as a bard the only way you're getting the full benefit of flint caviar is to have 600+ crit and acc, the crit you need multiple crafted pieces to get....and the acc you need 60+ over your cap.

They don't exactly think these things out when they put them in the game considering the mats and the rng to craft them is insane for such a small amount of stats over the base lvl 50 food. Unless you're in the most hardcore of groups(which by now should honestly all have t13 down), there is little reason to use the best food over the basic stuff you can make at max lvl.

As far as I know it's still impossible to cap crit on Flint Caviar. That was the complaint at the time of release and there hasn't been any gear added since that would change it.

I did see an OF post a while back where they specifically said they'd address Emperor Fish being stupidly rare for what they are (I went through a full stack of bait once and got one emperor fish. Usually catch rate isn't that bad, but 99 casts yeilding a grand total of 3 caviar was ridiculous.) Now I only even bother if somebody requests them and MB is empty.

I just resubbed to this today after a super long break.

I played for a few months when Realm Reborn launched, then dropped my sub because of free time issues. Now I'm looking to hopefully get back in, but man I'm so far behind. I only made it to level 30 on a dragoon initially, but these ninja's are so cool I decided to start back over as a rogue. Hopefully I can make it to 50 pretty quick because reading about the end game and it sounds awesome.

I would say my biggest time sink leveling a job for the first time was simply running the main scenario quest line to unlock all the level relevant dungeons and content. After that it's pretty breezy to level a new job.

I'm interested to see what the Novus light buffs will be after patch. I'm currently 1250/2000 light on my weapon.

Resubbed today which got me up to the goblin veteran rewards... just short of the Nanamo reward tier. I may just pick up a prepaid card to put me over the top. Its so cute!

Finished 2.4 story and the Hildy quest. Thankfully I got the Ultros minion in the Ultros fight so I can leave that fight alone. Can't do Shiva EX yet until I beat Ramuh EX so I guess I'll do that next then maybe do the Second Coils but no rush for that yet.

Can't respec Dreadwyrm bow, son.

I'm on the 14 day trial and might sub earlier than I was planning to. Apart from having to level up to 10 to unlock class change, and not being able to just start as a gatherer or crafter, this game actually has non combat content. I don't have to fight stuff just to be allowed to skill up. Some stuff that benefits crafters is tied to story missions but you could live without it if you wanted to.

Surprised that this isn't pointed out more as I really dislike games like EQ and wow where everything is based on combat, unlike how UO was.

In uo I would spend a couple hours a day catching fish, baking them, and sell them to people passing by. Or i would mine, make ore and sell it to smiths. Would sometimes meet people and was kind of the guild crafter for a small guild. You can do that again in this game. Finally.

Yeah we had a guy back at launch do nothing but non-combat classes. I don't think he ever got one battle class to 50 before he quit.

To an extent, you can indeed ignore combat classes and just level crafting/gathering. You're limited in how you get your materials in certain cases especially endgame stuff(coil drops or primal materias/drops or whatever else) but it's a small part of the whole thing and you can still buy the mats off the market board anyway, so yeah it's fairly viable I assume. You'd want to get to 20ish for the chocobo though, at least if you want to gather, since sprinting around is pretty sucky. Also want to do mutamix stuff to get access to materia melding and conversion, but not sure if there's an adventurer level requirement on these, and it's most likely 20 or under too anyway.

You do want to sub to make full use of those classes though, since you need access to the market board obviously. Interestingly though you could level all crafting classes and make a ton of money without ever leaving the main city. The start would be kinda rough since the vendor based items don't sell all that well, but eventually if you amass a bit of gold and start buying the first non vendor tier of materials and make stuff out of these, the profits become fairly substantial and you'd keep rolling.

Edit: Nevermind, you need retainers, which are tied to the story. So you do need a level 20ish adventurer class to get the main features unlocked.

Hi!

I bougth the game last august for PS4 and played it for a month and really liked it. I subscribed now again and now I am feeling kind of all lost. I only played alone and made a character on Odin and got it to around lvl30.

Now I am thinking of making a new character on Ultros so I could play with gaffers. Should I do that?

Also. Are there any recommended good tutorials for newbies? I know the basics but still kind of lost.

That's what thought on the upper-limit food. Any type of food based on fishing irritates me, even Bouillabaisse. I wonder if they are ever going to add new crafter food? I mean there isn't even any 2* food.

I want info on Airships!!! My body is ready!!!

I really hope it's not.

The reason being:

A) I'd rather purchase it locally so I can get it ASAP.
B) Shipping to Canada is expensive from the SE Store, even for the slowest option.
C) Since base shipping is slow, I really don't want to wait for 1-2 weeks to receive my copy, not when I have a static waiting on me.
D) I NEED the CE.

So yeah, please make it available from regular retailers, SE. I know you love to make your store exclusives and all that, but please. PLEASE!

If they are even remotely competent, your purchase of the physical CE will come with a code of some sort for your account. I highly doubt you need to wait for the box to start playing the content.
