I'm pretty sure no-one's* going to get mad when they're eventually released in World of Darkness/Hunts/whatever again.

Myth gear offered iLevel parity with raid gear in exchange for grind. Allagan gear was the status symbol raid reward. Sold switched it up by introducing upgrade items to extend the treadmill for casuals and dropped the items into coil in order to introduce a semi-token method of letting groups gear up no matter how hard RNG screwed them. It was a smart design decision, but I don't think it's stretching to assume the plan was always to open up parity to dirty non-raiders. Only somehow the upgraded gear became raider property and everyone should be expected to coil for parity and how dare you want to grind for it like you did myth and now the cycle is restarting and oh my god why are people so snotty about it.

It mostly bothers me because I like the gear upgrade path they've designed, I just don't understand the possessiveness and elitism around iLevel and it makes me want to slap people.

Wait, was this not originally a joke? Oh man.

Anyway, I think the upgrade path is fine. I just find it weird that some people expected it to immediately be "do coil for the upgrade mats OR grind for it" when it wasn't the case before.

And while I agree that they always intended to open it up eventually, I do think it's still meant to primarily be a pseudo-token system to offset bad RNG on drops for raiders. The upgrade mat part of it just lends itself to easily transitioning it into a catch-up afterwards so it gets to do both: Be an alternative to raiders (along with letting them have two sets for sharing gear with two jobs) and then be a catch-up for everyone else.

I don't even read the official forums outside of following devposts.

As far as item progression, what we have now seems fair.
At least we're not forced to do speedruns anymore for chances are gear even appearing at all like 1.23, fuck all of that.

The system was designed to give it to raiders first but I refuse to believe sticking sands and oils in ST wasn't always the eventual plan. It was always the casual option.

Sure, pass it out to the casuals in a patch down the road. I never argued on that point but if the conversation I had to have in here the other day was any indication, it seems like some of the community wants to cry because the gear wasn't delivered in their mailbox after they downloaded the patch.

Real talk, like half my FC is banned from the forums.
Maybe they're all assholes, but the worst offense one of them had was making a thread asking for SE to allow dresses to be worn by men. Lo and behold we get a skirt now. Some of the moderation there seems uneven as fuck.

Just have BSM left to get to 50 for Builder of the Realm. Completely out of leves, so just doing dailies while those replenish and SBing a bunch for all the materia I need to get crafters at least to 3-star. Accessories are almost done. Just need to work on wrists (Command IVs just don't want to come), and slap the 4th materia on some other pieces. Think I may try to 3-star CUL first.

This option might end up being cheaper for melding the i55 crafting accessories most of time, depending on your RNG luck.

Speaking of crafting, does anyone have some tips for hq crafting at around lvl 24-25? I have only been able to pull it off consistently with hq materials, is that normal or do my rotations need work?

At least there was one group on Ultros who cleared T12 on the first week. I wonder how long it will take them for T13.

We were talking about this last night, Ultros has no more hardcore free companies like other servers do since CL left. The group clearing T12 are members from Awake, SF, and GSC. Those FCs don't have dedicated statics anymore.

EDIT - Not sure if that's a good or bad thing.

you need some cross class skills to do it with normal quality materials. Skills such as steady hand II, hasty touch, careful synthesis, waste not/manip, and byregots. The key skill is byregot's

Using Free Company resources to flip something on the market under false pretenses is certainly shady.

I remember when we used to make things for each other for free with no expectation or desire for reward. We just wanted to help each other. People are getting greedy.

The 'Sly Cooper/Odoru and Friends/Death to Nin Py' Ultros group is possibly looking for a tank or DPS for Final Coil.

Requirements:

1. Must be chill and willing to deal with mid-fight derails about dead birds, some turtle from Sly Cooper, and/or roleplaying as a ninja. If you are expecting a serious hardcore progression group run away now.
2. CST/EST preferred.
3. Having already downed Turn 9 would be nice! Failing that, at least second coil experience.
4. Must be willing to free Baramoht from his eternal torment of running T9 7 days a week until the heat death of the universe.

Send a message to Elliott Kirkland or Scything Moon in game if interested!

Can we get a WAR? I want max DPS without actually having to do things and then Scything can go back to being the Last Dragoon™.

Also, a Dragoon could work. This way Scything can watch from the sidelines in agony for making me put up the slashing debuff just because the Paladin sword and shield is cool. I'm pretty sure this would also guarantee Dragoon loot on every turn. Pell would like to have that piercing debuff too! Let's make it happen.

Cheshire Kat has WAR geared up and posted a thread in OF for a spot in a static before the patch. Go hit him up!

Pretty sure that he found one as he was in N.Than a bunch when I was there.

I know just the person :)

Oh man Maple really wants me to go WAR instead of PLD. Well, Maple... if we're stuck with a new DPS in our group I guess I could consider going WAR. Of course I guess this means now I want the WAR axe in T9!

PLD is still best MT though, so I kinda wanted to do that, y'know.

Hey, he doesn't deserve that title.

oh my jesus. I may need to come back on the merit that Wootz armor is a thing alone. When i played FFXI Koenig armor was the ultimate accomplishment in my eyes as a lowly 54~ paladin. It doesn't even seem all that expensive o_O

In the Japanese version Shiva actually calls her Diamond Dust attack out in the dialogue, but not in the English. You keep doing that, localization team? First you butchered Gilgamesh, now this? The hell is wrong with you?

Koji, recompose.
What changed with Gilgamesh?

The obvious solution is make a Zodiac Quest for each piece of left side gear.

Scything and Strawberry still need/want their weapons. I can't speak for everyone else, but I do not mind doing T9 until we get them and maybe an Axe too. Unfortunately, I can already hear the groans about more T9, so maybe we should start reserving that stuff for the weekend and get down to business on T10.

Yeees. Let's crush T10 pls. I'm excited.

Does anyone here raid and heal while using the controller setup? How viable is that? I kinda want to get back into the game but I really like playing with the controller. I'm concerned about how targeting party members would go.

I would just roll dps but I don't want to wait forever for groups, and it'll probably be easier to find a guild as a healer or even a tank.

Tiv did it pretty darn well apparently so yeah I'd say it's viable

Drama is another controller healer that does well

Up/down on d-pad cycles through active party members on your party list. You can have the party list default to have healers, tanks, and dps appear in whatever order you want, or manually re-arrange members one by one. From there, you should be able to build good muscle memory to know how many press up or down it is to get to a member. Or just watch the names get highlighted as you scroll through them to stop on who you want to target. It might not be as fast as a keyboard, but it's pretty easy to use (at least for me).

I heal on controller as WHM in order to try to summon Tiv back to the game.

Also you can "hard target" a target in your party list by pressing X and it sets them as an anchor point that you will always return to after casting once on something else. Very helpful since it automatically targets the tank for me after I have to heal up a DPS or something.

Don't you need to British Summer Time.

I'd help you guys out again but then we'd probably run into the same issues as before lol.

We have Crispy, we just wanted to look for someone who isn't already in a group for a free-er schedule/less driving Barah insane/giving Maple slashing resistance down.

What changed with Gilgamesh?
I'm surprised more people don't know this.
See the joke is that Greg thought he had the "strongest lance" in the world, Bradamante, Nael van Darnus' signature weapon. One of Nael's moves, as a servant of Bahamut, is Megaflare. However Gilgamesh apparently got tricked and the lance he has while looking alike is actually Pradamante. He attempts to cast Megaflare fighting you, but it doesn't work, which is why he's shocked the lance he has isn't actually the real deal. English dialogue completely removed him calling out Megaflare.
This is a reference to Gilgamesh (in FF as a whole) having a habit of using Excalipoor, a replica of Excalibur which always does 1 damage.
