Provoke does nothing on hunts because they actively resist Provoke.

Huh, learned something new today then.

edit: Just tried to go on the official forums, got this message and laughed:

Incidentally, decided that after I'm done getting Monk to 50, (about to hit 37 right now,) I'll go ahead and level WHM to get Stone Skin.

Want the option to be able to MT as a PLD, and I'm told Stone Skin is kinda essential for some fights. Besides, I'm using PLD for T4 farming, (might as well get my Lion,) so I might as well get good with the class.

Yep, Stoneskin is super helpful. Especially right before the boss lands on you in T9.

I would imagine so, I mean, it's an off cooldown damage reduction you can apply to yourself, (so long as there's a break in the damage,) that sort of thing is hecka useful.

To be clear though, even if I get really comfortable as PLD, I still believe WAR is the superior Off Tank. XD

Provoke gives you +1 Enmity over the current highest. Party, Alliance, just randomly next to you, etc. are all the exact same.

Provoke does nothing on hunts because they actively resist Provoke.

Interesting. I guess that might be why sometimes I've lost hate to the other tanks in ST mid fight only to get it back pretty quickly. I just thought I was doing too much of the Storm's Eye combo and they were catching up.

Provoke also doesn't work on FATE bosses it seems.

Yeah. The reason for that is that reward is based on enmity generated and Provoke lets you jump to the top in one command.

Yeah, it'd totally break Fates, but also makes controlling enmity a lot more difficult in Fates. I imagine if you could provoke, a team of 2 to 3 tanks and a couple healers could actually safely hold onto Odin, by cycling enmity between themselves as the debuff stacks fell off. I forget how long this takes, so it might take more tanks.

Regardless, something like this would actually make tanking Odin fun, but of course it can't work this way for a good reason. If it did, Wars and PLDs could just run into Fates, Voke, run off, and still get Gold.

Well, mind you, it's almost that easy even without Voke, but still.

Is your account active? If not then you are locked out from posting on the forums only browsing.

It's active but I just logged in again and it was all okay for some reason.

I just laughed at the message, first time I've seen that and the wording just made me lol.

edit:

There was forums maintenance, I got the same message.

Huh, that explains it then I guess. Should probably get someone native to check over their maint message though >_>

Got a question about the ffxiv 14 day trial. Is it only for people that didn't have a FFXIV account, can't use it to check out what the game is like now, and maybe walk around with your old character?

14 days would be kind of perfect.

Edit: Disregard

I suppose it wouldn't be a good idea to let people that already had a account in on that trial especially with the restrictions in place for gil sellers which I understand fully. Death to all gil seller characters.

Isn't that a fishing retainer thing? I really should level one up since I have all this melded out gear sitting around; not sure with the FC3 market crash if it makes more sense to just fish up more Olgois for a second supra or if I should just push to ironworks.

RIP all my allied seals, going to purchase ventures for leveling.

it is. Main problem is they will probably need your old melded fishing stuff to meet the required gather to go out so you can't just convert it after getting artisan's. Artisan's rod should be enough though so no supra needed at least.

I am totally gonna use the first one I get (and then sell the rest to GAFers who are gonna use it for a hefty discount. (I'm thinking 50% so 4-5 mill ish if they are still at 8-10 mill by then) I'm nice but sure aint a charity.). Then again, I may never get that many

I don't expect to get any replies, but is there by chance anyone who's got a spare NA copy on Steam they'd like to trade for my PAL copy?

I've got a buddy in Canada who wants to play this and because of the sale I kind of just pulled the trigger without reading the warning about it being a PAL copy.

Got a question about combining accounts and upgrading PS3->4. It's all a bit confusing and I'm sure it's been answered before, but if you'd be kind enough to bear with me I'd appreciate it :)

I've grabbed a CE on PC when it relaunched and played for a bit. Now I'm considering coming back and I'm hearing the cheapest way to get it on PS4 is through the PS3 upgrade.

So, here's what I'd do: Get the cheap PS3 disc version on Amazon (freaking £2?! is this even real?!), add the PS3 license to my PC account, then go to the upgrade website and upgrade the PS3 license to a PS4 license.

Would that work? Would I be able to play on both PC and PS4 after that? Would I retain all the collector's edition and subscription time bonus items from the PC version? Would I get a free month with that? (that last bit is not really a deal breaker since it's £2 so who gives a damn, but I'm curious)

Thanks in advance for your help.

I'm assuming melded i70 accessories are needed? I haven't been converting stuff as I replace it, and I kept the fishing hat because you never convert a good hat, so I'm set for main equipment. But the battle accessories and replacement belt will probably sting.

I pretty much am; I usually don't need money and like giving stuff away more than stockpiling fake funds. I feel semi guilty about breaking my whole never-charging thing for the fish minion, but I needed glove money fast. And TBH I'll be too busy with other fish to go back to the minion spot so it's easier this way than trying to figure out a minion gifting order.

When you register Playstation copy it'll ask you to log in if you have an SE accout and then you can tie them both to the same service account.

Use the same account and yes you can play on both, yes you keep all your stuff, and yes you get another month.

Not sure. I know the FSH will be different than the other two since I have a 50 botanist retainer that needs 383, but they get offhands. Might be possible to do it with the "normal" type of melded gathering rings if you have those.

And I will be less of a miser when I have my house + the new gathering set. Fishers are basically the only ones who make use if it right now anyway, and while not needing 6 sealants for an offhand is nice, we still need quite a few for the armor pieces and they aren't cheap.

Once they drop PS3 support is there anything that'll be different that could not be possible because of the PS3 limitations?

Loading screens for every zone is the main one. Larger raids/dungeons where you don't have loading screens for separate areas would be another.

As there may be more actions that directly affect the TP of other players introduced in the future, the dev. team would like to work on adding in a display for party member TP. However, there is a limit to the number of items that can be displayed on the screen at the same time, so we have considered swapping the MP bar to instead show the TP bar.

In doing so, we would then be required to introduce a feature that will allow players to switch the display between TP and MP smoothly, even during battle. We would appreciate your patience while the development team continues to research if and how to efficiently display TP bars for all party members. We’ll be sure to share any updates we have on this in the future.

Well there's also a tp bar being held back by "limitations"(aka ps3) it seems.

That might be an option--I still have the 2.2 melded stuff on my scrub miner; I guess I could see if I can afford the 2.3 upgraded accessories and then offload those. Sent my level 1 fisher out on its very first 18 hour fishing adventure! after massively overpaying for the rod because I didn't have time tonight to go find the right vendor. oh so lazy.

Oh no argument that the new gear seems designed specifically to fuck with fishers--403 gathering for a neptodragon is just stupid and making it so expensive was just the extra kick in the teeth. It lured me back into selling when my savings wouldn't quite cover the last piece. And while we don't need an offhand, we're also the only group to have our supras rendered obsolete. I just have nothing else to spend money on because I don't want a house. Whereas you want a medium house and need all the money so it makes sense.

I hope when the expansion comes out I won't need to buy the original FFXIV to buy Heavensward. I really want the game on Steam but already own 1.0 unfortunately. Think it'll work out that way?

Man, sometimes FFXIV gods smile upon you.

You lose a static member due to IRL stuff coming up suddenly, then you find a perfect replacement the next day right before your next scheduled session.

That's the biggest thing for me are the loading zone lines. I hope they get rid of them once they drop PS3 support

Ironworks bow is a huge step up from the visual disaster that was Rosenbogen (or the visual crime that is the Artemis bow.) I mean, Dreadwyrm bow > all, but it's a workable second.
