Awesome. Is there a way to do this on a PS4 controller?

Free Login weekend:

From Friday, November 7, 2014 at 8:00 to Monday, November 10, 2014 at 8:00 (GMT)

I assume the trial is for people who didn't have an account so free login weekends is your best bet.

Well... Guess I will visit Ultros again!

Edit:

How is the Shiva Boss Fight? And Ninja? And Everything? I stopped like a year ago before the first content patch and started my legendary weapon quest (killed everything and just needed to grind for the legendary status, so I killed Titan Hard)

Let me put it to you this way. Titan Hard is so Kuwaii now. XD

Shiva HM is pretty easy, don't think I've ever wiped on IT. Shiva Extreme however, well there are much harder fights in the game, but it's much harder than anything in 2.0.

Shiva is fun, not started Rogue/Ninja yet.

You would have a hell of a lot of content to get through if you stopped before the first content patch.

Two recommended things to look at:

So you just hit level 50 in patch 2.4 - this will take people from fresh 50 to current content. (worth a look)

and

What have I missed?

Plenty of content every patch, lots of fun to be had. :D

Can anybody help me with how to activate the free login weekend? It says I have to visit the mogstation to confirm my account status, but.. how? Is there something I'm not seeing?

Are leves and fates the fastest way to level.

Depends. Daily roulettes are the quickest way, but, well, it is only a daily bonus.
Doing a dungeon which matches exactly your level is also a good idea, since you will get chain exp bonuses.
Leves are very good too, granted you still have some leves to spend.
Finally, you have FATEs, which are good but can be a little random because of the time they need to respawn. I would advise you to do both Leves and FATEs at the same time: if right after finishing a leve you have a FATE going on nearby, go for it.

Dungeons are usually faster if you have manageable queue times, which I don't think melee DPS do right now. General advice is to queue for the highest level available dungeon and, if playing DPS, do FATES/leves/hunting log/whatever while waiting for queue to pop. Always make sure to keep a food buff up for 3% bonus XP, and do LLDR once daily (since LLDR awards bonus experience based on level, it probably makes the most sense to make it your last dungeon of the day for max level/XP boost.)

Thanks, that's what I've been doing thus far.

Is Caster DPS quicker to get groups than Melee dps? Do they split em up?

Does that take into account the level you queue at or the one you finish the roulette with? I queued at level 30 last night, but by the time I got in I was already 32. Ninja queues are awful obviously and I even took the time to do some hunts with my WAR as well. It's nice that you can now get full credit without a party, since it's a lot less people doing them now.

I quite liked the Ninjutsu mechanic, can't wait to get more hand seals.

Quick question. What's the difference between the 2 poisons? Right now one is +10% damage vs +5% for the other, however with traits it seems both will end up being the same. Are some enemies weak to one or another? 'Cause otherwise I'm not seeing the point.

I think one is over all damage and the other is physical damage, but it probably ends up being the same

I'd imagine it'd be the level you finish the dungeon at since that's when you get the bonus exp.

As for venoms, yea eventually they will do the same damage. It's situational though, as the traits add extra effects to attacks:

red = 2s stun to jugulate
yellow = life drain to mug

edit: aaaaand in checking that out realised I have been rolling with the wrong venom for 4 levels lol

1st phase of Melding complete on my Kirimu Bard Set. I have 3 melds on each piece with all IV's. Phase 2 is going to take awhile, Satasha HM gives 36% Spiritbond on ilv 90 gear with no melds, 3 runs per set. Not bad :)

Ranged (including BRD) and melee dps get separate queue times, system tries to pair one melee/one ranged although that obviously doesn't always work out.

Yeah I got into LLDR with my Arcanist in about 11 min, where the avg wait for my Lancer was over 30 min. Definitely a good time to level ranged DPS.

Slotted a bunch of crit into the chest. Thinking of getting pants next.

I think >30 minutes is just the longest estimated wait DF displays.

Rogue queues still at 90 minutes? I figured the first hardcore wave would be over by now.

I'm enjoying my instant queues as a scrub WAR.

It's a good time to be a scrub tank. Everyone's so grateful to be out of the queue and in a dungeon that nobody's going to be abusive if you're terrible.

I may or may not have repeatedly set down the controller for extended periods to type in LLDR yesterday. Still got comms.

I have no idea how I'm gearing up at 50 tho without cheap i90 everywhere.

Hmm maybe I will give tanking a try for once. I have been leveling both classes but I have not taken them into a dungeon yet.

I made a whole i90 set for my WAR when I get to 50 using the drops from expert roulette.

Oh man maybe I should do EX roulette.

I bought and unweathered the sold body, and am at sold cap and have a couple of blood spattered logs so I can get the pants no problem. I also stole a bracelet and sword from Shiva so I'm set there (still need the shield but like everyone wants tank stuff so good luck there). My biggest concern currently is feet (I don't know if the sold boots are any good?) because then I'll have the major glamour pieces sorted. Maybe I'll just stick +DEX accessories on for relic train.

You should be fine. Maybe tell people you're new up front, but people in general have been pretty cool and the rogues aren't really pushing for speedruns at this point because being in a dungeon > FATE grinding while waiting for dungeon.

Pants & Chest are the same melds, will probably go:

Determination +6
Critical Hit Rate +9
Critical Hit Rate +9
Critical Hit Rate +9
Critical Hit Rate +6

The other gear won't cost as much since it already has Critical Hit Rate & Determination.

Yay, second relic book done.
I didn't look into it at all before, but what's the fastest way of getting alexandrite post 2.4?

With the pricing of tier 4 material you'd have to be pretty insane to try and do multiple rng melds, especially considering the 110 items are not bis when compared to Coil or upgraded tome items. It would be one thing if a bis piece dropped out of t13 or you needed a carbon for an upgrade, but even some of the 120 pieces beat out pentamelded 110 (bard gloves and belt being examples).

For bards, crit and det being weighted almost the same would also mean a crit 4 would come out ahead of a det 4. The det 4 materia wouldn't even come into play for melding purposes until you get 2-3 crit 4s on a piece, by then you may as well just round the rest out with crit 3s anyway since it's far cheaper and it's not like you're losing itemization weight doing so.

The tooltip says that but they're both all damage.

Try not to spend it all in one place.

To be fair, the Pants and Chest fit that requirement fairly well: Pentamelded Crit/Det on them is better than the i120 Tome equivalent. If you're not planning on T12 and T13 anytime soon, the crafted is essentially your best option for quite some time.

The other slots will typically cap with two IVs or be one off with nothing but IIIs so those are significantly cheaper.

How do I get the field exploration retainer minion? I am at level 50 and have tried multiple of the level 50 retainer ventures (there are lots of options based on ilvl) but no minion yet.

scy

Do that again but pray really, really, really hard.

Pretty much just full-on RNG with the last Field Exploration venture.

I hope the rogue/ninja story quests are a sign of things to come. Probably the most enjoyable class quests in the game.

I also really like they give you the ninja skill before the proper story quest.

It makes more sense that they'd give you a skill and then have you put it to use in a quest.

Yup, exactly, it really helps you learn how to use the skill. Also since its a short process if you're like, in a levelling party you can quickly grab the skill without having to deal with a long quest or a solo instance.

I don't buy most of my Materia, only when I set aside say 4 Savage Aim IV for a 29% and I fail, I'll buy from the MB. 3 Daily Rouletes will bond an ilv 90 set, I did the same with my ilv 90 gear, I'll meld the 4th slot with an IV, might take a week or two but I'll get it done. Then I'll have the gear I want and melded :)

Anyone want a good deal on a complete ilv 110 Ninja HQ Scouting set? I have them listed on the MB seperately but I'll sell the complete set at a discount :)

What kind of money are we talking about here? Just to get a frame of reference. I'm thinking the real expense comes in pentamelding the whole thing.

Get me a deal on the Artisan stuff and I'll bite immediately
or once I get enough funds :(

I'd rather not say price on the forums, don't want to start debating on prices... materials and such. You can take a look on the MB. I also do crafting requests, but have to be careful, there are some ass-hats taking advantage trying to flip the items on the MB instead of wearing it.

If you bring the HQ mats for Artisan Gear, I'll give it my best attempt, but it's not 100% guaranteed. I'm Jade Nephrite :)
