Aye - thanks!

It's worth noting that, particularly in level 50 dungeons, a lot of strategies will be entirely ignored due to the miracle of overgearing. Like, most people don't bother moving the final AK boss anymore, or hiding behind the statues, since you can just straight burn him. Also (almost) nobody does doors in Lost City anymore. One-line question confirming the strategy you think you're going to be using can be helpful to make sure everyone's on the same page.

Noticed the free week and decided to log in for the first time in what I thought was four months, but was in fact seven.

I had experimented with FFXI, in which the world is pretty empty, so things sure seemed lively in Mor Dhona when I first popped into view... and then I got to the Gold Saucer. Wow! So much to do, so many people milling about! Good old Triple Triad! Dat Shuffle or Boogie music! Card games in which Eorzean alphabet numerals are on full display! Casino bunny girls! There's something foe everyone.

Just when I think I'm out... they pull me back in!

So I decided to visit Limsa and check out one of the new classes, the Rogue. This "learning things from scratch but not really" thing is quite fun and a great way to get back into things. I saw you out in the fields, Maple Cookie (and tried to give you a tiny bit of assistance with your fight), and saw you, Kagari, playing cards with Baderon (my Nozomi gave you a nice courteous bow and you were too engrossed in the cards to even notice her :( ).

(Was there some kind of gil tax or something? I could have sworn that I had hundreds of thousands of gil, but I only have about 43,000. Am I misremembering?)

Any thoughts on how to go about enjoying all the new content? There's just so much to do, but I want to try it all. I never did get past Turn 5, so a lot of the dungeons are off limits. How are the additional Hard Mode dungeons?

Also, I bought a code to play this game on PC; will that expire after the new content is added in the spring?

Ohhhh... that. I was hopelessly doing FATEs for Alexandrites that never drop for the relic weapon that I will probably never finish before the expansion. :(

I recognized your name but I didn't see your Guildwork message yet so I'll get you an invite when I can. You were a member before so you can just apply to the FC in-game and any of the officers can approve whether you are online or not. The fastest way is to do a zone search and find any GAF member in the list, then click their name and view company profile. You can apply to join from there.

You don't have to clear turn 5 to do any of the new dungeons and most of them have low requirements. I would recommend focusing on all the new main scenario content as that will guide you to a lot of the new dungeons and trials. If you need to gear up first, try tackling the Crystal Tower content (Crystal Tower, Syrcus Tower, World of Darkness) and some of the trials like Ramuh and Shiva. The Hildibrand quests are some of the most enjoyable in the game so make sure you check those out too. Rejoining the FC would also be a good first step in getting guidance and assistance.

Not sure what you're asking about the code but the expansion (Heavansward) will be additional paid content. You don't have to re-buy the game but you will have to pay for the expansion. Once you own the expansion, you just register the code to your account.

I can't seem to log onto ultros currently, not entirely sure why. Keep getting 90002 and 90001 errors. I'm currently at 11/16 dungeon drops to transform my Thyrus Nexus into a Nirvana, and I just want to get at least one more drop before evening classes. I guess my fantastic luck at RNG these past three days is finally at an end, RIP. ;__;7

i have one just sitting in my inventory. thought about turning it in for seals because bards stink

I'd be offended at the slander but knowing some of the 'bards' you associate with, that's a fair enough conclusion I guess.

But you should turn it in for seals because it's an ugly top. I have one and periodically equip it to make sure it still looks dumb. It always does.

Biggest mistake a chocobo racist can do: breed a chocobo when you have nothing else to do in the next six hours. Go back to bed.
I might have to do this. The chocobo racist in me needs to be fed.

YOU STINK.

You just know you can't pull it off as well as I can.

When you stepping on the race track to put some of those bards in their place?

So I'm lvl 42, don't remember what I was doing when I quit... what should be my course of action to get to 50?

Main Quests.

Secondary Quests.

Stone Vigil Dungeon.

at 44 do Dzemael Darkhold Dungeon. If you are up for it there is a way to get a lot of exp by farming the first room of this dungeon.

At 48 you can try and do Aurum Vale.

...why would I need to put them in their place when they're perfectly happy to wallow around in choco stables on their own?

To be fair, everything looks dumb on a lala.

I actually have a pretty long-standing objection to how obviously little thought goes into the Lalafell models for a lot of the armor (Kirimu coat and HA Aiming Chest, I'm looking at you), but 2.5 actually introduced some gear sets that work pretty well. I'd argue the WoD healer/caster sets actually work best on Lalafell. The cut looks less potato than a lot of stuff, and the overall aesthetic fits pretty well.

The dungeon stuff's biggest problem is more color and pattern than cut, too. It's just kind of boring to look at.

You just know you can't pull it off as well as I can.

It's true, nobody can rock boring gear like Generic Interchangable Hyur #723

Check your retainers to see if they're storing your money.

This was it; my two ravenous, market-exploiting, arbitrage-mastering retainer sharks had it all.

I just came by for the free week -- I have an active FFXI subscription going, too! -- and am not sure if I'm going to sign up again, but I'm leaning towards it. Despite having been away for more than half a year, and learning the much more intuitive FFXI controls, it's surprisingly easy to get back into things.

I might get serious about learning a tanking class so that I can finally take the lead in party play. The post-postgame content is still beyond my ability, but I know the earlier missions well enough to help others with them now. And with the free week, there seem to be a lot of genuine first-timers out in the fields. Should be fun.

So if I'm approaching the materia melding portion of my relic quest, will I want armorer and goldsmith at 50 for the sword and shield? Having done next to no melding, I'm not sure how that's going to work.

If so, that's about 20-30 levels of grinding out both professions to look forward to.

Just ask in FC chat or /shout in a city to get somebody to meld for you. Have the weapon, the materia, and some Grade III carbonized matter. When you get a person, rigt click them and request meld. If a random in the city, just tip them a few K for the service.

No need to level your own craft.

This is incorrect. Where are the bunny boys, SE?

In my mind I was thinking I'd be doing a meld a day for 75 days, but I guess you're only limited to the acquisition of Alexandrite (and even then, I guess, not exactly once per day), so I didn't want to be bothering folks too often.

By the same token I'm still running around in my level 50 gathering gear on my miner, unmelded. I'll holler in FC sometime soon and tip handsomely to get all sorts of melds going on.

Thanks for the response!

Oh wait Alexandrite melds? No craft needed; it's not a real meld. Just go into the scroll and click away.

If you're up to Alexandrite melding, then you don't need other people to do it for you. You can do it with no crafters leveled.

So I've been looking to do the stuff I've missed doing and got to Odin. I looked up a fight video and they said how the loot is vanity stuff, no biggie that is cool. I check it out and it's just the Odin armour I've already got but usable for glamour. I feel fucking cheated tbh. Like, I've already got the Odin stuff but I have to grind out this fight just to be able to use it? Why couldn't SE just fix the older Odin stuff as well?

Odin as a whole is just disappointing. His drops are underwhelming, the fight is meh, it all feels very much like they had a Fanfest fight they figured they could use to pad out the patch and needed the least-possible-effort path to release. Just a total let down.

I went back to manqote after highlander, I just prefer their animations and face.

Face is a big one, and that might be what ends up keeping me from going Au Ra. Granted, we've only seen, what, one or two Au Ra male faces? So far though they've both been very dour and "Grr face!" I personally prefer faces that suggest my character is predisposed to be happy with things.

Catgirl forever, most kawaii race!!

Err...anyways, locking down a solid opener for ninja is making my head spin, any suggestions other than keep at it?

Thinking about jumping on this because of the Golden Saucer. I see PSN has a $30 and a $50. Latter being a collector edition. Is the extra $20 dollars worth it?

I actually agree that Highlanders are boring but if rumored revolutionary shifts in the Lalafell mafia come to fruition I might go back to mine just cause I kind of miss her.

LiQuid!

I proudly and openly admit to wishing death upon the mothers of people I don't like
I wish I knew why I tilted so hard while playing a tank, but only in level 50 dungeons. I have run Halatali HM dozens of times, but if that first large pull goes bad it affects the entire run and I feel like I can't do anything right. I'm misusing cooldowns, eating attacks from bosses that I know how to dodge and losing agro on tiny pulls. Nobody on the team is talkative but I can feel them getting frustrated.

Still catching viable* content (2.4 and 2.5) in the free week. Already did main story and Odin a few of the hard dungeons.

Odin is quite easy but It took several tries on DF....well, I guess could be worse. Need to do Ramuh and other things but everyone and his mother is on Gold Saucer.

*Not counting T9 and coil.

People farm on Halatali these days?

God I hate that dungeon.

The answer is...don't do dungeons SR, tank has it's hardest and people complain about when something goes wrong, because all they have to do is just spam AoE skills and have epnis conversations about DPS with the other DD.

Do dailies and other shit and your life will be easier.

The Zodiac weapon grind requires people to get drops from every dungeon from DD to Snow Cloak. Think of them like dungeon Atma. Sometimes they drop on a single run, other times to have to farm the same dungeon dozens of times to get the item to drop.

Also, Halatali may drop a Triple Triad card, maybe, possibly, I'd have to check.

ughhh

I guess is better than spending millions on materia.
