It's okay, in the full expansion cutscene we'll see the 3-4 DRG standing there looking menacingly while a group without DRG takes on the boss without them below. If only their queues finished~

Yeah, it's not like they would confirm it in a random interview like this instead of during a live letter or anything :p.

He straight up said they are skipping it for now. Obviously he's still a liar so who knows but I'm not holding my breath.

Anyway, what does this mean?

The battle is meant to include the new job which means the base level will be 60

He's talking about the new 3.0 primals, it almost reads like dark knight will just be level 60 out of the gate.

But he specifically said it wasn't coming this expansion.

It's not like they haven't lied to us before :p
I can hope anyway lol :(

I wouldn't actually be too surprised. Would means people wouldn't need to start from scratch at level 1. Though if they went that route, I also imagine, a requirement to unlock DRK would be to complete the main scenario of the expansion.

My guess is more that Bismarck and Ravana (HM? EX? Non-story version) will be tailored to level 60 characters, obviously, so you can't just jump them at level 50. That also being said, Yoship has mentioned during the fanfest that they wanted to have the big, dangerous areas like in 1.0, but because players were level 1 to start, they wanted to be a bit more kind and welcoming. Since the expac is basically going to start at level 50... they don't have to be anywhere near as nice or forgiving.

Maybe that means Dark Knight will start at level 60, but I dunno. I could see it starting at least at level 50, because to play the expansion you're gonna need to be level 50, I would assume. I would guess Dark Knight might still start at a low-ish level and require you to grind it up, since there will be at least what, two new jobs introduced alongside it? If the point of an MMO or an RPG is to level up, I don't know why they would take that away from us. Then again, who can ever really know for sure how they're approaching Heavensward. We'll find out for sure(ish) soon enough, though.

Or it's a WoW "hero" class and it starts off at a certain level already(50) and you play from there. No way would they let you flat out skip all the new story on an expac class day 1, there is no chance it's starting off at 60.

Oh hey, remember when I said SAM wasn't coming this expac? Maybe we should stop doubting the crystal ball.

Considering we just got a new melee dps, the expac already has a tank and likely a healer, why would they already add yet another melee or tank already? The last class is going to be either a caster or ranged, unless the gun class isn't a healer then they'll think of something else for a healer. 3 new classes is the max we're going to get when the expac launches, any more would be a balancing nightmare and I would have my doubts they could do it, already have doubts they can do 3.

I just found it weird that it said "to include the new job" it has to be at level 60. Could just be a bad translation or a huge hint.

As said above, the reward for beating the main scenario and getting to 60 may be the new jobs. That interview also says there is a great reward for getting to 60.

Really stretching here since there's no full translation, but I'd guess that they wouldn't want to balance the new primals against brand new DRKs, so they have to be level 60 to ensure everyone has some experience with their class prior to going in. wild speculation but work is boring.

Could just be the dragon mount that we're going to be taming at some point during the story. Didn't they say the same thing with the magitek mount for lvl 50?

Yeah just realized that was listed where they were talking about mounts. It also says that the DRK class will be available at the beginning of the expac, looking over it again. Idk man, I'm like phoenix wright, I just point at the evidence and let someone else do the work.

He'd be pushed to 245-ish in your scenario (due to the mandatory 1 in all classes); if he attempts to level a 4th class he is going to hit the 300 cap somewhere in the 60s or so of that class depending on degradation pace and the 300 cap penalty becomes relevant. The pre-300 degrading of the class in the 40s won't keep pace with the increases of the fourth class, and so the 300 cap is ultimately related to his question--the ultimate optimal path would be getting two to 100 and then book resetting the third class to make the 300 cap not an issue I guess, but just getting 2 to 100 wouldn't do it.
If 2 desynths are locked at 100 when he hits 300 total, that means the system will pick the Class 3 lower desynth to siphon from.

Code:
Class 1 100 (locked)
Class 2 100 (locked)
Class 3 40
Class 4 56
Class 5 1 (cannot degrade more)
Class 6 1 (cannot degrade more)
Class 7 1 (cannot degrade more)
Class 8 1 (cannot degrade more)
If all other classes are locked, and Class 4 needs 1, it will be subtracted from 3.

In any case, I went and searched around, apparently it seems like the lock was mentioned in a community post but may not have been implemented yet. Perhaps I'm remembering wrong, but I thought it was implemented already.

If Maple would like to be sure, then he should use the new alchemist books to reset his Class 3 desynth and work up from there.

I can't remember, how is it even possible to not have convert?

I'm sorry archer and bard are boring.

I don't do magic classes... maybe he was a SMN now that I think of it. So neither of the two have anything to do with one another... I've been lied to >:|

And in turn, you've lied to me. I trusted you ;_;

Back to real business though: quelling strikes is a crutch for bad tanks. Git Gud.

They also said you could start the expac by selecting Dark Knight, so... *mega shrug*

It only hurts for a little bit. Then it hurts a lot more when you pop B4B at the wrong times.

Do you have Amon's Hat yet.

It takes zero effort to use it so it's really a "why not."

Plus it's nice for certain situations just to ease the burden. And costs nothing to do.

Yeah, I'm thinking three classes as well.

Tank, Ranged DPS, and Healer. Between these and Ninja, we'd have one of each basic kind of class.

Frankly, with the queue times releasing Ninja alone has caused, well, good riddance. :p

Dark Knight, DPS Gunner, Healer Gunner.

Sounds good to me!

Any gear guides out there for end-game that are worth reading? I'm iLvl 86 right now and I'm not exactly sure what I should be grinding for and where. Is it a waste to spend Tomes on Weathered Gear, or should I be grinding my gear and saving up the Tomes?

I was thinking maybe grinding Expert Roulette for Antique gear to trade in...
