4 hours in, and I have to say I am pleasantly surprised. I went in expecting the same issues Squenix has had with this series for the last console generation, and instead i'm being treated to a really enjoyable, fun adventure. All the little touches are endearing me to it in the same way those little touches endeared me to Yakuza, (just on a much smaller scale here.)

He took a picture of Noctis ass really close up for me. Right when he was mid-strike.

Reminded me of that Ned Flanders scene 'feels like I'm wearing nothing at all'

'Nice shot!' he said as I scrolled over it.
Haha, I love the remarks that they make over the photos. A lot of repetitions but some geuinely funny comments.

So many minor things are confusing. Why can I "Return to car" only sometimes? Why can't I fast travel between campsites? Seems like an obvious thing you'd be able to do. Why can't I have my car auto drive to Hunt points, if the hunt is my active quest selected?

It sucks having all these icons on my map if I can't fast travel to any of them. So many things I want to check out, but they're all so far away and my only choice is to walk.

Maybe that changes later. I'm still in chapter 1 exploring around a lot.

It sucks bad it Chapters 1 and 2, but you get manual control of the car in Chapter 3 and more importantly you open up a new and better mode of transportation. So those issues ease a bit, but it's still bad that an open world game makes traversal such a chore.

FROM THE TOS PAGE:

The following is an example of what is good and bad spoiler usage:

Correct spoiler marking strategies.

This is a spoiler for the 4th boss fight in Zelda
I can't believe the part when the boss breaks out a deck of cards and starts playing poker with himself!

Incorret spoiler marking strategies.

I can't believe
link
dies at the end of the boss fight against
megaman
or
Dude, I can't believe link just died

Kinda sad when the active mod in this OT doesn't even follow the rules.

If you're going to be ignorant against the forum rules, at least mark your spoilers appropriately for the sake of other players. Otherwise go to the spoiler thread!

If you have a question about chapter 13 for instance. Go to the spoiler thread and ask there.

Kinda sad when the active mod in the OT doesn't even follow the rules.

Hey our homeland was annihilated a huge militaristic force.
Lets go to the farmers market

I like this game A LOT
But it is hard not to feel this disconnect.

I tell you, it's really annoying when the subtitles are just the tranliteration of a source instead of the translation of what's being said.

Played for around 4 hours yesterday, and I'm absolutely loving it so far. Doing every sidequest and hunt compatible with my level that I run into. Game is gorgeous, combat is fun and the characters are great too.

I hope the game stays strong, definitely will be one of my favorite entries in the series.

Did anyone else read the prologue for the game?

If not, check it out.
It's meant to show off what the bros are doing up until the point the game starts. Kind of gives off a Brotherhood vibe.

Damn it, this really should have been in the place of Chapter 0.

I understand they didn't have the wherewithal to make Insomnia totally explorable, but surely a limited section of it....

>:-(

Question, I'm on chapter 2 and see a ton of potential side quests and hunts but want to proceed with the main story, do side quests ever become locked out? Or can I come back anytime post game? Just wanna avoid situations like the witcher 3 where a lot of quests get locked out at a turning point.

Quoting myself again for visibility.

Can someone help me with magic? I hate using it. Every time I do, my entire team gets damaged by it. How can I use it without them all running into it, or without the AoE being so huge?

I don't know any Japanese beyond a couple of words and yet I've noticed this multiple times already.

I don't mind it too much... trust the localisation script, ya know? But if you know both languages and are hearing / seeing different things then I can imagine it driving you crazy.

Okay, that prologue novel is actually rather helpful. I finally have a grasp on Regis' character, which I didn't in Kingsglaive in the slightest

Chapter 1/2 & Kingsglaive spoilers I suppose, but that's all early game stuff

In Kingsglaive he came across as rather uncaring when it came to his citizens, prioritizing Noctis because he had this bigger future role to play. Fine and all, but he's still a king. In the prologue it's made clear Regis did make arrangements to protect his citizens by assigning the Crownsguard to the people instead of him. Which has been sort of alluded to in XV I guess but only vaguely, I was wondering what Cor and co actually did in Insomnia outside of escorting Iris too so that explains that.

I don't believe this was communicated in Kingsglaive at all? I certainly didn't catch it if so.

Amen to that. If all the sidequests instead revolved around your party mustering strength / allies, as well as growing, that'd make much more sense. Instead, it's "Hey, fetch me some car wax".

You can literally just do the story quests, nothing's stoping you. You can say that for any Final Fantasy end game too. "Hey look the meteor is falling" "lets go chocobo racing in golden saucer".

You can say that for a lot of games.
Mass Effect, why are you fucking around doing advertisements when the Reapers are coming to bring the end times.

It just feels even more pronounced in this game for some reason. Because i imagined the world to be war-torn and terrified. And it isn't

The game isn't kidding when it tells you it's dangerous at night.

Level 30 iron giant spawned on me and I just noped the fuck back to camp.

So is this still part of the Fabula Nova Crystallis?

Cause I'm still really early on in the game but I'm so happy to not hear one mention of Fal'cie or L'cie.

Hope to finish the game today but honestly feeling very mixed about the whole thing. There's good, even great parts but there's also really baffling, bad parts throughout. We'll see how I feel at the end.

Noctis, the prince and heir to this realm, isn't cognizant to any of this apparently given that terrible exchange. Is he that much of an idiot? Are the writers just completely off the mark?

He was kept in the dark and protected on purpose, he doesnt know whats going on until its too late. Also, people might feel the disconnect of the bros being all cheery at times but then you run into the problems of "emo, edgy" or whatever else people wanna say. His character from versus to xv was retooled a bit.

On chapter 8 and 30 hours in and something weird happened randomly in regard to Aranea...

Will spoiler tag just to be safe.

I'm just riding my chocobo to the next Sania side quest by the Hunter HQ and randomly an Imperial Ship rides overhead. A quick scene shows Aranea on the ship, gearing up for a battle and I'm thinking she's asking for a fight (even though we seem to be on good terms). But instead it says she joins my party and when she lands on the ground she spouts some nonsense about the daemons being under control... Even though none are or were around me for a good while lol. So now she left the party faster than she joined and is stuck in some weird jumping jacks routine.

This happen to anyone else? I feel like something glitched, but I'm curious as to what was supposed to happen. Never seen a party member join outside of a scripted mission.

Question; what's the reason people are staring B is the superior control method?

The only thing I dislike about fishing is the janky UI. If they'd made it more pleasing visually and added more ambience to the activity it could have been a peaceful zen garden every now and then.

I enjoy it still.

I liked walking up to what was clearly supposed to be a mother and child and hearing then have a conversation labeled as "boyfriend" and "girlfriend"

Oh man, I was walking around in Lestallum and some random NPC made a remark about the crowd

... There was no crowd. It's like I'm in a ghost town outside of select spots. Not gonna lie, this is seriously taking me out of the experience when it comes to the towns at least. At least don't pretend it's different, game.

I'd really appreciate some more people on the Pro at least. :/
