Asking again since the only reply i got didn't seem so sure:

Does all the equipped weapons affect my stats even when they're not the active one?
For example, if i equip the /nd royal weapon that brings down my defense, does my stats stay the same even when i'm using a sword or they switch everytime i change weapon?

Because i want to use that Royal Weapon Axe but i don't want my resistance to drop to 10 all the time lol

Felt so good to use a Quintcast Thundara on a group of imperial soldiers as soon as they dropped from the ship. There were no survivors

Im finding it hard to decide if this game is for me. I think the combat system will be the point at which I decide but after watching some videos im still not that sure about how it works.

Do you hold a button down to auto combo and then just hit dodge and parry numbers as promps appear?

Can someone give me a more details breakdown of it because I would personally want it to be more involved than that otherwise I think i would get bored pretty fast. Holding a button down to combo isn't that appealing to me.

So far the pros for me are its visuals and looks like a pretty interesting world to travel and the friends banter is prob fun.

But going against it are what I always assumed (and many reviews have stated) is a bad story which strange pacing and while the characters may be likable to some they all seem rather one note which doesn't really do much for me.

So really Its down to the combat system. If that is more involved than it appears then it may be able convince me.

I'm actually playing in EN right now. Seemed fine to me. What did he fuck up?

I don't like the way he is saying in EN and it's not as obvious as the JP one.

Also in the JP he stops after chanting the fanfare and doesn't continue with the....whatever the hell was he chanting in the EN version lol.

1. Think Sleeping Beauty. Two rivaling kingdoms who simply can't get along decide to have their children wed to unite the two kingdoms. However this is a ploy on the rivaling Kingdom to take Insomia's magic for themselves. But why this Kingdom with such advance technology needs magic is beyond me.

2. PLOT HOLES. PLOT HOLES GALORE. Luna leaving for Insomia was changed because of Kingsglaive. Really most holes in this game story is because of Kingsglaive. I'm going to keep pointing fingers and this movie because it single handedly FUCKED up this game's story from making any sort of sense. Really fuck this movie for ruining this game's direction and giving details. And fuck this movie for not even explaining the backstory to even make it worth watching. Really you have to jump through the whole multiverse and read interviews on the story to actually know what's going on.

3. Why Luna and Noctis can't just meet at end of chapter 1? She shouldn't be there in the first place, cause last minute rewrites. Or I'm sorry, cause Kingsglaive, that's why.

4. Inconsistency. And Kingsglaive has both nothing to do with Final Fantasy XV and then again everything to do with Final Fantasy XV. Seriously this movie was a complete after thought.

5. PLOT HOLES. Or she simply doesn't have Noctis number nor knows anyone who does. Granted she does have like 3 OTHER forms of communication with Noctis. She could had been tied up, setting other things in motion, and so on. Really her character doesn't make sense and is just there to have a female presence and move forward with the story. Yeah great job Tabata, remove Stella because her character didn't make sense and replace her with Luna who could had just been replaced with a lamp and nothing would had changed.

This post is so accurate.

I need some advice...please.

I'm loving the game so far (ch.3 just now after 6hours of gameplay). The music is "oh my god" tier, loving the characters and the world building but I'm having big trouble with the combat system.

I mean...I love bayonetta kind of games, fast paced with a lot of lights and colors and 1000 things happening at the same time but with ffxv i find myself so damn lost on every combat. Everything seems so random, noctis attack pattern and combos feel random too...sometimes he uses lux on the target he's targetting...sometimes he doesn't, now he jumps for aerial combo, now he wastes all his mp because he decides to use lux during circle combos, now one of the bros decide it's the moment for a dual combo and etc etc etc. I totally feel like a spectator holding circle and waiting for the outcome of the battle. The controls A,B and C are not helping. I hate the target lock on R buttons but the only option to put that on R buttons also put attack and defense on the triggers and that's even worse.

I need some help. People is talking so goof about tje battles I feel I'm missing something or doing things wrong.

Pd: also being lvl10 and being droppef 40 lvl16 soldiers with machine guns in my face was NOT a cool move Squeenix -.-

You don't know what he continued with singing?

Still not sure what you mean by it being fucked up, but this little bit cracked me up, so good. I was actually a fan of Promptos design in the early days, became sure I would hate him later, but he's one of the best Final Fantasy characters out there. Very happy how he turned out.

Be careful about the video IGN posted about this game on Facebook. There is a huge spoiler in the first seconds of the video (and I didn't want to see that, damn)

Stared chapter 2 recently and I have pretty much done the quests I can in the first open world area. I think I have spent around 7 hours playing the game according to in-game counter.

I'm in love. Completely in love, I don't remember when was the last time I enjoyed a Final Fantasy game this much. FF8 I think. Combat is fun, and ascendancy + XP system makes doing "trivial" side quests + hunts somewhat meaningful. Story and characters thus far are something I'm not cringing at every 5 minutes so that's a step up from like last several FF games.

Traveling around the map getting all points of interest could be annoying. Except once you learn that you don't have to get every single point of interest. Just get the ones somewhat along the way to your next target, be it hunt, side quest or main quest. Once I learned that, and that I don't have to grab every single food and treasure spot, I started enjoying the open world aspect immensely.

Ignis technique
regroup is a game changer to how you can play

In short: Easy to pick up, hard to master. You CAN just hold attack for regular enemy groups, but that will lead to much slower progress and two problems in particular: Your max HP will drop if you aren't dodging and blocking, so you'll wear down over multiple battles; You won't have the skillset required to defeat tougher enemy groups like night time battles and higher level hunt quests.

The basics are you hold an attack button to chain attacks, and you hold the dodge button to auto-dodge all attacks (costing MP each time, so you can't do that forever). The depth comes from:

Positioning: Back attacks deal extra damage. If you're also positioned near your own party members, so fighting as a unit, they'll join in with your back attacks for Link Attacks, causing massive damage. There are abilities you can unlock that further boost this damage, cause auto-crits, etc, so with great positioning you can end regular fights much faster, and stand a good chance against tougher encounters.

Warping: The teleport ability allows you to jump into the fray quickly for heavy damage, but can leave you out of position for group attacks, and drains MP fast so reduces dodge capabilities. You should regularly be warping to safe points and high ground where your MP will refill instantly and your HP will recharge much faster. If you can keep track of your surroundings and use the environment this means you can keep a fast and aggressive pace up. It also looks flashy af.

Weapons and Magic: All enemies are weak to certain weapon types and magic elements. Think of this like FFXIII's paradigm shift I guess, where you instantly switch to a different combo to maximise damage. The damage boost is significant, so you'll want to be doing this. Magic, I find, is worth using sparingly but for big game changing impact. If you can group enemies up and hurl a high damage triple-cast Fira at them, you can literally one shot entire groups.

EDIT: Party Techniques: Forgot this one. You know how traditional FF games have pop up menus when it's your turn to act, and you can select bigger abilities like high damage skills, heals, etc, as well as just attack/defend? That's still here through techniques. You build up Technique Points (TP) to fill up to three bars. Each party member can learn different techniques, and you assign one to each of them. That gives you three techniques to choose between in battle that will cost between 1 and 3 TP each. Some examples are Gladios teaming up with Noct for a big single target damage; Ignis calling for a tactical regroup where the whole party gathers back together at a location that leaves all the enemies in front of you (see positioning for why this is awesome) AND heals the whole group at the same time; Prompto taking some action photos mid-battle, just because he can =P

How do you fast travel, I only see return to rest point and return to car on the map screen, how exactly do I travel to to previously discovered points.

I hope they give the option to remove icons from gameworld at some point. There is a pointless icon of a downward arrowhead and i dunno wtf its purpose is. The quest marker is clear enough by itself.

Had the craziest experience due to glitches and nonsense. Stumbled upon a super dungeon, took me two hours to get through. But one of the final fights in it was so screwed. Two of my party members (ignis and propto) straight up disappeared. Then about 20 minutes into the fight which I had no way of winning, I became impervious to damage. This was so exhausting. Holy shit. Crazy ass glitch that screwed me then saved me. I don't know what to think .

Realized that just after I arrived lol

Anyway it wasn't a negative experience. I was laughing the whole way there.

How far did you have to push it? I have had to push it once, for half a mile. Was so pissed after a quarter of the way, and so I used the menu to get it towed.

Never again.

When I was plying yesterday, the sound in combat was gone and sound of walking and running was gone too. It's a sound glitch I think, I quit the game and started the game again and everything is fine. I expected the game to be more polished.

I drove out of Lestallum for what must have been only 30 seconds. It was like 10 minutes pushing it back lol.

The "rest of the song" is different in each game though, I think? Pretty sure he sings the FF9 version.
It was the same in FF1-6 and 9.

I'm old so that is the fanfare to me. I see the version in 7, 8, 10 etc as remix variations.

Thanks for this. Seems pretty clear now.

Will have to think on this. Not sure that is something that would hold my interest. Maybe pick it up in a dry spell or something. There are definately parts of this game I think I would enjoy but its certainly not a must have for me right now.

Glad to see a lot of people are liking it though.

Have you never played any of the pre-VII Final Fantasy games? Because aside from IX, I through VI all used that same fanfare too.

Kinda bored
There are so few quests for such big empty area
Half the time is used for walking
Maybe it's time to move on to the main story

Ahhh. Annoyingly I've played them all to completion except for 2 and 3. The only pre-7 game that made a big impact on me was 4 though (UK gamer, so we only got 7 onwards while they were still relevant to current gaming standards). I guess that's why I associated the victory theme with 9 over the others.

Are there certain meals Ignis can make an infinite # of times? And if so, how can you tell?

Yeah, I think some of the recipes at the top of his list require no ingredients? Hardly any boost to stats though, so ingredients are worth gathering.

How are you guys leveling so fast? Is there a grinding spot I missed in early chapters? I've only gained experience from hunts, bosses and quests. Random encounters on the world map are kinda rare, I don't get that many.

I was level 14 starting chapter 3.

Are treasure loot worth anything other than selling for gil? I mean on the menu there is a tab that is called Treasure and the description says that it is valuable.

Was just wondering if it is safe to sell them or they are used elsewhere?

Can be used for magic or certain quests might ask them.
