This is my first FF and I've literally just started it:

Graphics are nice
World is nice
Characters are nice
What the hell's up with that the combat - I can't see what's happening!

I don't usually find camera issues as bad as others do but in this it's awful.

Also, with regard things you pick up that go in your items list in your inventory that say 'can be sold for gil', is that really all you can do with them?

No, some of them are used for quests and also some of them you can use them when crafting magic.

I am in Chapter 3
Just met Iris in Lestallum and about to go to the next royal tomb. I gotta say I love her character thus far even though I have a feeling I won't see her very much. She is the stereotypical girl next door that clearly has feelings for the main character, but the main character is clueless to it. I am fine with this though.
. The world really opens up a lot with so many side quests to do. I love it.

Okay, who even is Jared? I just want to know.
Okay, the scene implies it was Talcott's grandpa, but seriously: who the fuck is Jared? He literally was in one scene prior to his death

Got rekt by the first Ronin I ran into, god damn.

Getting better at dodging and working my way through mobs. Starting to out level Story Content, I'm at like 22 and the next mission is 20, there's just so much to do and explore.

Yeah, this is one of the most beautiful games in the industry. I'm travalling by Chocobo at night in a middle of a storm in Duscae. It's amazing, really.

FOR JARED!

like Prompto isn't a generic anime character...he definitely is.

They all are. Character depth isn't this game's strong suit.

I just added a powerful axe to my weapon roster and holy shit, it is so satisfying to land a powerful blow with it in mid-combo. Instant vulnerable state for enemies.

Prompto has to be one of the best FF characters ever. He and Noctis are really well written. Gladio and Ignis just feel like generic anime character.

Maybe because Prompto gets to talk a lot more we get to know him more. I like them all except Ignis, he's too uptight. I know someone like that irl and he irks me really fast.

I don't need a reminder of him in my fantasy lol

Just ended the game. This definitely has become one of my most favorite games. I have a few complaints.. but that's for spoilers thread I suppose.

So here are some beginner questions:

1) What should the settings be for the camera?
2) What and how many of the items should I sell to start with?
3) Can I miss side quests by progressing to a new chapter?

So can you go the island off Galdin Quay or nay? What cool things are there to discover
with the airship?
There's nothing but an invisible wall there, sorry.

There's an optional dungeon in an area that you can only access with the Regalia Type-F though.

I don't think I've ever seen in game advertisement as blatant and awful as this cup noodles shit

I just finished the fucking cup noodles sidequest and it feels dirty

It's also the quest I got the "complete 80 sidequests" achievement with so I guess I'm at least done

But God damn

Man seriously, fuck the camera sometimes. In any kind of fight that isn't in a large open field your view is almost continually blocked by trees or walls. What ever happened to making that shit translucent when the camera goes through it?

Also fuck the drop rate on Sturdy Helixhorns — can't tell you how many times I've replayed that hunt with the spiralcorns and dualcorns and broken their horns and got "Supple Tail" as a reward instead.

Yeah, I'm usually not bothered by ads in games. Billboards and even being able to use them as an item were fine with me, but having the characters basically do a commercial for them in-game was pretty terrible.

I doubt that I'm going to do too many of the side quests -- in most games, I just scratch the surface of side content and then move on to progress the main story.

Somethings kinda annoy me:

I have a lot of pending quests that can only be done at night. But when it's night time, I can't drive automatically to the night quest destinations (for example, the kill 6 goblin ones.) Is there a way to travel far distance in the car during night time?

And And And

Any fishing tips?????????

It's tough! I've yet to get even ONE fish to be attracted to my lure....

Yeah, the car stuff at night sucks, well just in general it sucks, hah. As for fishing, have you tried different lures? Once I started swapping lures, I caught a ton of fish. Did the
angler dudes
quest and his lure worked great in that area.

Can you choose your main summon?

I was in a dungeon so Ramuh just sensed where I was, threw his judgment bolt from miles away and it crashes through the damn roof.

So epic....

I really really want a hard mode....quest give out too much exp. I'm In That camp that quest should give lucrative items and Gil only.

Just popped in the game to get all the updates before Xmas. Tried the battle mode during install. The HUD is popping off the edges of the screen. Anyone else had this and found a solution? There seems to be a few articles about it online with no solution.

No other games had the overscan issue and changing to viewing area in settings and the resolution to 720p doesn't seem to fix it either :(

Speaking of summons, why is Ramuh the only one that I can summon?

Did I not
acquire Titan after that E3 fight?

Okay, who even is Jared? I just want to know.

A random guy you should feel very emotional to
lose him
obviously.

It's based on certain parameters. I've only gotten Ramuh thus far he appears when battles last a long time. Titan comes when your allies are in danger and I believe Leviathan comes when Noctis is in danger. It's in the guide but I don't have it in front of me right now.

Seems that summons are specific to areas? Not sure. Only got Titan once.

Edit: Just saw socivol answer.

Late responses to post so apologies for replaying to old posts.

Overall feel spoiler and end game spoiler
This is probably the darkest (literally and thematically) mainline FF game. Everyone important dies (more or less, we don't know!), the world was in ruins, all the Astrals are dead. This game literally went from cool dudebro trip to downright sad.

[END GAME SPOILERS]

If you think about it,
Ardyn actually achieves what he wanted.

Well what can I say? You guys... Are the best.

The feels...

It's 3:15am and I'm barely 10 minutes after completing FFXV for the first time.

Feeling such raw emotion right now, that ending was incredible.

Yay! Thanks for playing! Hope you enjoy post-content!

What the HELL is with this difficulty spike at the end of the game?! These monsters are unbeatable!!

Get gud, son! :p

I rate the characters as this (best to worst): (No real spoilers outside of what these guys are like)
Prompto: Fun dude, nothing as annoying as you'd expect, his camera deal is a very cool and unique feature. Clearly has a close friendship with Noct and defends him even against allies. His banter in dungeons is the best.

Ignis: Straight-laced, but every group needs a character like this, and most important he gets some major character development that it feels like the others don't. His puns are great, he seems to enjoy the journey which a lot of these 'uptight' characters don't. (Then again I'm not finished.)

Noctis: Hard to rate him as he's barely there. Feels like a non-entity in his own game and his motivations and feelings are wildly unclear. Is he moping? Mourning? Apathetic? It's impossible to tell. He'd piss me off, but most of the time I just forget he's there.

Gladio: What a moron. Brings nothing to the table, and doesn't seem to understand the emotional weight of the story. 'Intervenes' at the worst moments for bullshit reasons. Couldn't stand this guy.

Can you choose your main summon?

If there is one single area where this game delivered in spades, it's in those fucking summons. They are out of this world. When you desperately need one in a fight you're losing and those sparkles appear... that is a serious FUCK YES moment, and everything that follows is a visual spectacular that the rest of the game is kind of short on (for a FF, anyway.)

Do not avoid the imperial dropship dudes. In fact, they drop one of the best items in the game: Magitek Booster. It QUINTCASTS your magic when applied to a spell.

5x damage. Even rank 1 spells can wipe out entire groups. Best part of it is is that they're weak to Blizzard, and one Quintcast Blizzard will wipe out the whole group and you'll get 1-2 Magitek Boosters.

Well, that's dumb. Game should let me choose what summon I want.

Tip for the combat: switch to control type B. Hold L all of the time. That way, when you let go of square, the attack button, you immediately go into dodge mode.

Okay dude... I need you to send me a link of every gif you've done of this game. They're all so well done!

Spoilers for Chapter 10
Uh Gladio is being a bit of an asshole don't you think?, I mean he did lose his father and recently the love of his life wtf dude cut him some slack. Ignis being blind sucks but Noctis is losing things too.

Everyone in the greoup has lost something or someone. Gladio is being short and kind of a dick about it but you understand where he's coming from. He's in the camp that moping about losses won't get them anywhere.

Finally finished the game.

Chapters 1-8 were amazing. Absolutely loved the open world.

As for 9 onwards, yeah... That left a lot to desire.

Overall I'll give it like an 8.5. So disappointed the second half of the game let it down as much as it did.

I let it install for a while this morning (maybe an hour and a half or more), and had to stop it at 70%. I hate doing that when it's a disc, but I don't do it much.

The patch being 10.8gb slowed things down, and I still have half to download.

I redeemed the day one code, but may not use the weapon if it seems like a cheat. I almost just threw it out.

Holy shit is
chapter 13
one of the worst things I've had to play in a video game in recent memory. And I've been loving the game for the most part.

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!
Also, I haven't tried it yet, but is there a reason you can't just: Warp away, Warp in, repeat.

It feels weird that Warping away has so many massive benefits (healing, full MP, effectively unhittable, big Warp damage when you return).

Not every fight you'll come across will have a place you can do it.

You aren't unhittable either. If the point is low down, you can still be hit fairly easily. Even higher up, I've jumped up to the point as I was about to be hit, but the game has dragged me back down to be hit without there being any real feedback visually why it happened (I dunno if there's some weird interactions or what).

I like the combat, but I do feel like sometimes I don't have enough control.

Warping also uses up stamina aside from MP. So while you are hanging for instance, your MP is refilled, but your stamina drains fast. If it empties, you fall to the ground and can often lose more HP from the fall than what you had prior to replenishing.

But yea, nothing really keeping you from just warping back and forth for freebie hits, outside of stamina depletion(and going into stasis from MP use). It's also not really all that interesting going that route.

As I keep playing, I still really think this system is shallow. I agree there is a bit more under the hood than merely "switching between off/def states", and getting a firm grasp on the Smash Bros.-esque cardinal direction attacks for each weapon is kind of novel at first, but all of the examples that people keep calling out for justifying this combat setup as "great" comes across as way too automated for me.

Too often animations fail or have clipping jank due to the chaos among grouped enemies or inputs don't seem to register properly despite correct timing(irritating when parries fail when they never should have). Even when a perfect round occurs with team-linking and breaking and air combos...none of it feels satisfying at all despite "feeling" like I handled it all gracefully with full control of the situation. Combat has been 'ok' but hardly a highlight of this game by any stretch for me.

So I just finished the game with most of the side/fetch quests done, and just want to say... that was one of the worst stories with one of the worst endings I've ever seen in an AAA game lol. Most of the characters got no development, and whilst I cared for the bros, everyone else was lame and just... there. There was a small spark in the later chapters that lasted a grand total of 2 hours
(which is how long it took me to beat chapters 10, 11 and 12)
, but aside from that, it is 100% certified hot garbage.

Noctis, Prompto, Ignis and Gladiolus. Remember the names of these four heroic and legendary gentlemen, for they carry the entire game on their backs.
