I just tried to fight the behemoth and it made me want to scream. How do you hit barrels with fire? Should I not aim with it? Also it's annoying me that I can clearly see the prompt for warping to a safe spot, the camera is pointing to it and Noctis warps somewhere else entirely. If I try to aim it just locks on to the behemoth. I can't see what I am doing and it was just a mess. My first game over, but I needed it because I made such a mess of it.

I'm going to take a break and try again later, if anyone has tips for the barrels I would be very grateful.

Hold attack.
Hold attack + forward left analog
Hold attack + backward left analog
Hold attack + left left analog
Hold attack + right left analog
Hold attack - release - hold

Then the rest is based on proximity ok target I think.

There are some weapon actions that aren't immediately obvious like polearm full thrust which is attack then tilt back then release while holding attack. It's mostly those I'm wondering about.

You kinda have to aim in the general direction and hope for the best. I mostly took out that dude with regular attacks.

I love some of the background XP banking scenes. The one you get when staying at the Lodgings by the lighthouse is great.

Watching Noct and Propmto fool around playing darts is really charming. Prompto's too cute.

Right. I've not seen anything showing those moves yet. If you find something/work ten out please share.

Wait until the behemoth is standing right above the barrel and then use fire. I missed once or twice, but got it before I ran out. I was locked on to him as well.

As for the warp, I just hold down the warp button to go the safe spots, and it almost always works.

1: pretty sure you can lock on to barrels.
2: you don't need the barrels to beat behemoth tbh
3: wait for behemoth to be near a barrel, then blast him.

? It was fairly easy for me. What are you doing wrong? Stand at distance from the monster, select the fire magic and hold O to activate the AOE target, aim near the barrel and wait for Behemoth to pass by. Release. Huge damage. Repeat from new spot.

Don't lock on, hold the attack button and manually aim to the barrels.
When trying to use a warp point are you locked on to the enemy? If so don't, also you have to hold the warp button.

I kept missing. I just aimed for him, he took potently of damage from direct hit. Then just use normal attacks and lots of potions.

So I finally finished the game. I honestly loved the game even a lot of parts that are widely hated like
leviathan
I thought it felt awesome. I do have to say Chapter
13
is the worst part of any final fantasy. It's not even Zelda water temple annoying, it's full on wind waker triforce fishing levels of awful.

While there's a bunch of stuff that could be tweaked and even more that could've been explored but were glossed over, I would still say it's a solid FF game 7.5/10. I'm excited to continue post-game stuff.

Finished the game in a bit over 27 hours. Overall I was very disappointed even going into low expectation. There were definitely some elements of the game that I enjoyed (like music) but overall was not happy. Thought later chapters would get better but it actually got worse, especially chapter 13 which was the worst thing I played this year and a long time without a doubt.

So the game has super short chapters all around, we are talking piss short here, then suddenly they throw at you a huge chapter (maybe they realized "hey we need to increase the playtime of the campaign because the way things are going COD might have a lengthier campaign compared to an open world FF) and it is the most boring and annoying thing in the entire game...

At this point i just have to ask myself:

What. The. Fuck.

At least FFXIII had a campaign. Not a joke.

Got to chapter 3 and unlocked the Chocobos - traversing and doing side quests infinitely improved! Got the Chocobo to level 5 already. I racked up 25k EXP just by exploring the area and doing various quests. I'm itching to cash out at the Galdin hotel for 2X EXP boost :p

Also, that Triple Decker sammich at the Wiz Chocobo area is freakin' awesome for +50% EXP gains.

Travelled back to hammerhead in chapter 6 to turn in some sidequest, wander out into the wilderness for literally less than a minute and an imperial dropship appears, I'm like "sure I can kill some soldiers"

What drops is a level 78 magitek armour lol

Finished the story and I must say that the last time I head such emotions in an FF game, it was FF7 nearly 20 years ago. I thought I'm too old for this anime ridiculous artstyle with it's teenage emo boys, but the way they stick to the formula and build the way to the final still works and is what made FF, especially 7,8 and 10 so special.

Yes, it's pretty straight forward but man, what an epic journey it was. It gave me everything I wanted from this game and there are still many sidequests open. This game has truly played it to my GOTY. I did not expect this after the first 5 hours.

Kudos SE and Tabata. The best FF experience since FFX.
FF is relevant again.

Yeah, I'm getting the impression they needed another couple of years to develop the second half of the game...

Story needed to be fleshed out more, cutscenes significantly improved, and much more open world for the rest of the continents. That should have happened as a bare minimum, with quality side quests being an optional bonus. At this rate I'm surprised the game is managing to stay above 80 on meta sites. Feels more like a solid 7/10 to me compared to modern RPG contemporaries. Though I haven't finished the game yet, so maybe the ending will change my mind yet.

Skyrim had an amazing world to explore, but lackluster story.
Witcher 3 had an amazing everything.
FFXV has... well it doesn't really excel at any one thing, except visuals and animations. Both world design, main story, and side quests, all leave a lot to be desired.

8/10 is too low, 9/10 and goty! 3

I'm only on chapter 5 so I can't really comment, but I find it very interesting that the comments about the story in here range from "It's awful" to "It made me really emotional".
I wonder were I'll fall on that spectrum when I finish the game.

Chapter
15
is essentially what people call the post end game?

I guess I should use umbra now and I will be getting some new side content?

I haven't finished yet either, but it seems to be an inverse Mass Effect 3. Fantastic ending makes up for an underwhelming majority of the story, for some people at least.

I really like the story. I think it really depends how invested you become with the characters, as the majority of it is told from such a specific perspective.

I just did
the sewer
dungeon.

Holy shit, I'm just so impressed with this side content. People could have totally skipped this shit.

I was even out leveled for it and the bosses was still pretty challenging.

Also, infinite air dodge has made the flashy combat even flashier.

The gameplay just came together in there and the group banter was awesome.

Story is fine but the execution and cuts all over the places ruin it. Ending will resonate with those who become invested in the world and its characters.

Thanks for the help everyone, i'll just aim for the general direction and see what happens. I'm so glad I have this thread to hold my hand through this game. Action RPG's really aren't my strong area.

Airdance made the game so much more pleasurable for me than it already is

Steyliff Super Dungeon is apparently a hundred floors deep

In these floors are levels with rank 80 Ronins and four tonberries.

I have no clue how far down I am. This is hell.
Damn. I admire your patience since i certainly wouldn't attempt it.

Do let me know what is the reward if you can do it.

This game is up there as one of my favorite FFs next to X. Although Im not really a "true", FF fan as I havent played them all.

Im still relatively early, but if the battle system holds up... Im good.

I don't think I'm going to beat this. I didn't bring enough items for this, despite bringing over 50 Phoenix feathers.

My teammates were getting massacred early on and I wasted feathers on them. Should have just done it solo.

I'm 45 hours in and I would say the gameplay really hold up.

It's just feels awesome when you get into a good rhythm.

I went from disliking the battle system to loving it now. It has clicked, it flows well and I am no longer terrible at it. It is actually surprisingly deep

I loved it since Day 1. Only difference is that it probably helped that I had ample time to practice through the Judgment Demo. Plus once you get Airdance and Osmostrike, the rhythm is all the more easier to get into. And then when you continue adding in your skills and such, it only gets better.

Are you talking about the second dungeon inside
Costlemark tower
?

Damn, I thought Crestholm Channels was big. Was like a maze.

On another note, I've done 3 hunts without getting a sturdy helixhorn. Zzz.

My teammates are getting sliced up like butter by these Ronins. Room I'm in turned into me against four Ronins. Just constant parry.

Level 91.

lol no the second Castlemark seems impossible

No items allowed.

True, I'll get there eventually. First game I've played in a long-time where I tend on doing all the post-game content, regardless of difficulty. The gameplay is just that addicting.

Omg, I beat that one today. Took me like 2-3 hours, just wanted a damn supercharger...
It was so much fun though!
What pissed me off the most was that for the final boss, apparently Hammerhead had a hunt quest for it. If only I had known...

Gladio is no joke in Chocobo races... Prompto was so easy too. My chocobo is level 6... do I need to level up or what?

Gladio smoked me at level 5. I'm thinking a few more level ups that boost stamina and speed should do. Also, how do you feed your Chocobo food to give them a boost?

Yeah, I just did that one as well. I think the hunts come after beating dungeons though. I just found a hunt for the Bandersnatch which is way above the level of the one I killed.
