I finally figured out what is bugging me all game about Ignis!

He sounds almost exactly like the guy from XboxAhoy!

You did the Cindy quest though? There's also some map piece which I have no idea what it's for.

Yea, it unexpectedly led me there, so I killed everything, found what I was looking for, as well as some new items, and then killed the final boss and left.

how do you fight with gunners? I can't see the attack

I'm level 21 but fighting a bunch of magitek troops with level 16-18 takes a lot of effort (especially with snipers and troopers). most of the times I cast -ga magic and they all dead but it feels cheap.

Well outside of magic, I usually just hold the Dodge button, then I use my spear to sort of counter and whack at least several of them down, which makes it a lot easier to start whaling on them.

I think I'm only level 19, I walked into that dungeon that had some Ronin guy? Lol big mistake. Felt like I was playing Dark Souls.

I like it so far. Not really fond of the on rails driving so far, but what are they supposed to do, give you an off road vehicle? (Yes, that isn't a chocobo).

I should really look into the weapon system. Feels like I'm missing something instead of just equipping a mix of fast/strong/slow weapons.

I've finally figured out why I dislike the battle system so much.

Doing a fort capture mission. It's near my level. Should be alright. Fight through waves and waves of dudes only to be greeted with two mechs. I can't damage either enough to win, but I have 20+ phoenix downs and 10+ megaphoenixes. By the time I've burned through all of these items I've been fighting for 40 minutes and the mechs are only at half health. I end up dying. What a waste of my fucking time. As it was a base capture assault I couldn't run away. At no point did Ignis's libra activate properly. At no point could I tell which attack was insta-wiping my party members, or have any control over them not getting wiped by it. These enemies were close to my level, yet unbeatable. On the other hand I took care of a lvl 72 earlier. No consistancy.

Summary:
-Enemy levels are meaningless bullshit in this game
-Enemies are 'bullet sponge' wars of attrition
-You can't save your party members from being insta-wiped vs powerful enemies, there's no 'hold back' or 'defend' setting, no AI control at all
-Libra simply doesn't seem to work, or at the least it's super inconsistent, so knowing which weapon / element you're supposed to be using is way, way harder than it should be and often seems impossible
-It can be impossible to know what's hitting you, or which specific attack is the one wrecking you or your party
-Because you can heal again and again and again, you can end up surviving half an hour or more in a battle you don't have the damage to win, which just wastes your time and burns through all of your items. If you don't have the option to run away, you're fucked.

It's pretty to look at, but it's shit. The game has wasted so much of my time today...

EDIT: OH FUCK my last save is inside this fortress! Fuck! This might be it for me....

I hate to say this but you're doing it wrong. Very wrong. Enable Wait Mode, Libra scan your enemies with R1, then exploit their weaknesses. Magitek enemies go down in seconds with a Great Sword. The game hasn't wasted your time. You've wasted your own. :(

The "Please, somebody help!" quest has me over here crying of laughter. This quest is literally bullshit. I had to look up a video walkthrough, and the mothafucka is right there jfc.

+Why doesnt he keep talking? He cries for help ONCE. And then stays silent so you can't find him.
+He is also crouched down. So if by some chance you you get a high vantage point, you still wouldnt see him behind crates.
+When you find him, he has a the most rage inducing smirk on his face like, "I made you work for that, didnt I?"

I was so mad that I busted out into a loud giggle. I was nice and mad.

For anyone else who needs help with this bullshit sidequest, here (dont worry, it's not a spoiler): https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=9YuYbe19cyg

I was afk in the local market in Lestallum. I came back to my game and turned around noticing a large group of women staring at me. I moved Nottis and the crowd dispersed while mentioning grabbing dinner with there friends.

I don't know if this was intentional or it was just random.

I don't find 90% of what you wrote to be true regarding the combat, for me it's incredibly responsive and efficient /if/ you make the most of enemy weakness and the depth of the system.

Sorry you're having a bad time, but aside from a little jank here and there I think the combat is amongst the best in the series.

I was wondering why people were mentioning the sturdy helixorn and now I know why haha.

Is it that hard to obtain? I mean it makes sense given what you get in return.

For the majority of my playthrough I've always had a sword, greatsword, and spear equipped. The last slot switches between magic, Royal Arms (the shuriken in particular), and occasionally daggers/guns. The shuriken in particular has been quite helpful due to it not caring about resistances, while also doubling as a mid-range weapon that makes it easier to handle bosses that you don't want to get close to. I dunno though, the lack of a bestiary (Although I guess Wait Mode would probably help somewhat) just makes you not really feel like you really have to mix it up or put immense thought into it. Now obviously, if you see purple numbers, you switch your weapon for something more effective. But if you knew the info beforehand, it'd make it a lot easier to be prepared for whatever you're facing.

I should try out Wait Mode sometime.
Though I'll never stick with it.
Just to see how the other side lives lol

So I was saving my XP to use at the 3X hotel but said fuck it. I came into this dungeon with 300,000 XP stored. I have 750,000 now. Might as well cash out now.

I need those stat boosts...

Speaking of which, assuming you used Expericast at some point, how does that work exactly? Like each cast raises the exp you'd get even more?

Just found out you can HOLD X to constantly pick up drops (like food nodes, energy nodes, etc). You dont have to keep pressing X.

So unfortunately Costlemark Tower bugged out on me. :( The Royal Arms didn't drop and I had to use R3 to exit the dungeon. From what I've read online, I'm now screwed out of my platinum trophy :(

It's just low drop rate. Took me maybe 6-7 hunts. Remember to break the horn.

Any thoughts to why they didnt make getting all the royal arms part of the main story? Think they ever did at some point? I haven't finished the game myself yet so if there is a reason for this then I don't know it yet.

alright thanks
so far I not really comfortable holding the Dodge button. because not all attack can be dodged.

I have another questions:
1. sometimes I can see the enemy data while pressing R1 sometimes I don't. is every enemy need to be analyzed first in order the info to be shown? I mean if I analyze Monster1 at level 16, will I need to re-analyze the same monster at later encounter?
2. any easy way to farm AP?

Thanks :)

I think they're intentionally optional, lots of stuff like this is in FF games. It's part of the fun of exploring, it can be actually very rewarding to find a dungeon, item, dialogue segment, random hard enemy encounter, etc...

It's part of what makes this game more fun to explore than other open worlds, the rewards matter.

Whoa, I literally just completed the The Last Spiracorns hunt earlier and noticed I got a drop that said Sturdy Helixcorn. I've been reading around and people are raving about this item and what's it for, then it supposedly has a 10% drop rate? Crazy o_O

And I'm only in chapter 3. Guess I'll go get that upgrade soon!

I agree just with the additional doors in the tombs, made me wonder is all.

For attacks that can't be dodged, I usually just use techniques or warp to a safe spot in order to gain iframes.

1. Yea, for the Analyze skill, unfortunately it only analyzes that one monster. It won't keep a permanent record of that monster's stats and weaknesses.

2. Get used to killing everything you see with a warp strike, particularly Magitek soldiers that often drop down on you, and weak mobs that you can call out with the Beast Whistle that you eventually get. The exploration skills also give you AP for driving, camping, riding a chocobo, etc., that eventually becomes quite profitable for you. There's also one for casting magic as well.

Man. I haven't had a chance to sit down and put some time into this since like Weds and it's driving me nuts! I wanna sit on my couch and do nothing but play this for a whole day.

Hey, didnt see anything in the op, so whats the best way to start my way through XV?

Kingsglaive -> Brotherhood anime -> then the game, right?

Do I need to play that platinum demo too? Does that unlock bonus stuff for the main game?

So the behemoth has wiped me out 6 times in a row, I am forced to accept 2 things.

1. I need to grind some low level hunts
2. I am terrible at this battle system and need to redo the tutorials, I must be missing something fundamental about it.

You don't have fire spells? You're not even supposed to hit Behemoth with any of your weapons, so your level doesn't matter.

What are some good magical combinations? I got a dual fire but that's the most powerful I have come up with.

Also, when I fight I hold down O and change my attacks with the left analogue. Am I doing it right?

Well, despite my misgivings, I still ended up buying this game.

I'm 10 hours in, just started Chapter 3 and I find it MUCH more enjoyable than I predicted! I really think it's the little things in the game that really does it for me.

I liked my experience so much so far that I actually went and finally bought Kingsglaive today, and I thought it was all right.

I do, they always miss, I somehow keep using it without having it selected and run out before I can barely touch him. He runs at me and wipes me out, dodge and parry never works and I die. Basically I am shit.

Don't lock on to him, hold the attack button and manually aim at the barrels and then let go of the button when he gets near it.
