Doing anything but just the main missions will make you overleveled and overpowered.
Yes. Just keep your lure moving for a bit when you see the red bar and the music plays.
Okay, I'll try again. I need to catch a special kind of fish during this side quest.
Also, I have 15k XP on me, should I bank them soon at the motel that gives me x1.5 bonus? Or should I wait?
I've done three of them so far. Not sure if I have the will to complete all of them.

Ignoring Kingsglaive and Omen footage, is there more than just one mid-game CGI cutscene (aka aside from the opening and ending)? I just want a yes or no. Obviously spoiler tag it in case someone else doesn't want to know the answer. If there's more than one mid-game CGI cutscene I don't want the exact number either, literally just a yes or a no. Thanks!

Just curious... I'm at the end of Chapter 6 and at level 40. Am I overleveled? I got addicted to sidequests for a while. XD
Are you asking if there are any FMVs other than the opening and ending, or if there's more than one other than the opening and ending?
Yeah, you're a bit overleveled. At this point, you might be overleveled for the rest of the game no matter how many more sidequests you do.

Finally beat the game 30 hours in. Kind of stopped doing side quests near the end. They became all fetch quests and that was the only downside of the game for me. Despite what others say, I thought the end game changed things up to make it interesting. I enjoyed it.
I think in hindsight I'm gonna regret doing so much optional shit. The rest of the story will be probably be super easy and I also found most accessible locations before you go there for the story. I mean it's an open world game but still, should've just went through the story first.

That's fine. I get enjoyment out of steamrolling everything in my path.
I just noticed because I'm not really running into anything too challenging. I invested in those 99 AP stat multiplier skills early on.

I can't figure out how spells work. I've absorbed spell stuff from deposits but I can't see how to turn it into spells in the menu.
You kind of need to see the end of chapter 13 first.

Is anybody else experiencing the PS4 fan being so noisy with this game that it makes you not be able to fully enjoy it? I'm even starting to think about replacinging my OG PS4. Is anybody here able to give me impressions on the difference in the level of noise from an OG model to a slim or a pro (specifically in the case of this game)?
Nope, tried at different places all around the open world. I'm guessing this happened because I gave up on a Chocobo Race by dismounting. Weird bug.

I just finished Chapter 3 yesterday. I was a bit surprised by how short the couple chapters after that were. I spent so much time running around doing sidequests it made chapter 2 and 3 seem a lot longer than they actually were.
Not really. I played for about 4 hours this afternoon and the fan did kick on from time to time but it didn't stay on for more than a minute or two.

At the end of the fight in Chapter 4, why couldn't the final QTE have been set up through dialogue (Ignis: "Noctis, I think I have a plan! Just hold him off a little longer!") instead of pausing the action to make me read a text box pop-up?
It's a little thing, but it's just another example of the game's chronic reliance on text boxes and load screen tips instead of using actual dialogue. The quest objective pop-up that starts chapter 5 is yet another example of that sort of thing.
Similarly, I just finished Chapter 4 and I'm 32. Should I hold off on the sidequests / XP multipliers for a while?

The sidequests give you a ton of XP in this game so it doesn't seem hard to get way over leveled. Though just actually focusing on the story makes you fly through chapters pretty quick, a lot of them don't seem to have all that much meat.

To get something out of it yes. But I don't think anything happens if you don't do it perfectly. Your reward is just a bit less
I hope this isn't the case. I did that last night and haven't tried to ride mine since :/ will have to check on this tonight.

The dungeons in this game are so awesome. It's not really what I come to FF for, but none-the-less.
So far I'm pretty into the story too, but just finishing Ch. 3. Sure, the way it's told is less than phenomenal. But I'm still engaged in Noctis' journey, and am quite interested in the world/lore so far too.
Just need to guard against doing too many side quests. Robs momentum of the main tale. I've got 25 hours in, and the most fun I've had has been following the story beats (although cruising while listening to classic FF tunes, and a little random exploring have been a lot of fun too). A lot of the side content is fairly bleh so far (although the exploration it might lead to can be nice). The worst part is when it directly robs from the story. Like, I don't mind upgrading the Regalia, or doing a tough hunt. But collecting veggies from a farm? Seriously?

So I loved chapter 7!
I really liked the setting of the catacombs and the swamp. Felt very fantasy-like. As did Aranea which I loved. I feel like her character wouldve been a great permanent adition to the cast and it wouldve added a lot of variety to the conversations and overall story. My favorite companion, dungeon, boss, and overall chapter so far.

Currently doing the one mission in the photography sidequest where
. I got to the specified location after some arduous trekking, and night suddenly fell. I can't take the picture because it's dark out
, and there's no way to pass time without going to some place to sleep, which would require redoing the entire thing. I have to actually wait around for 12 in-game hours to finish. There really should be some way to pass the time for time-crucial missions. It's inexcusable when that exact feature exists for hunts.

Yeah, no. You can make an RPG with cohesive art direction and pleasing world logic. Ni No Kuni is an example, Pokemon is an example, Dark Souls is an example. You're not feeding stray cats and you don't have completely clashing aesthetics everywhere.

Basically where I'm at. The story beats are not communicated well and miss their mark.
I think I prefer it to XIII's story beats, which were communicated directly... but were daft. We're running away from Eden, no, we're running toward Eden! Cid's a good guy.. no, he's bad now, because reasons.
