I would think this would be obvious but I can't tell offhand. I'm at the weapon shop and can't seem to compare the item I might buy vs what's equipped. How do you do that?

And is it not possible to equip it right away after buying? o_O

Thinking of trying out Wait mode when I play today. If only for Libra since Ignis Analyze in Active mode is so inconsistent. Any real downsides to Wait mode? Seems like you can essentially play it as if it were active if you keep moving.

Triggering summons is so obtuse and vague. I've only summoned Ramuh on the field once. I think I almost triggered Shiva but didn't know how to execute it and ended up finishing the battle without her.

I've never summoned Titan or Leviathan.

It's really dumb considering how cool they are. I would actually like to see them.

Wow.

Just wow.

Finished chapter 13 and started 14.

I cannot believe the hate for this chapter. Truly mind boggling and the definition of hyperbole. I don't know how much is left but that felt like a final dungeon. So what if it was long? Every other chapter has been short. This chapter was what I expected more of the game to be like.

And even if you disliked most of the chapter, the payoff was so incredibly worth it. Like, this is pretty much what I've been waiting for all game.
Dope boss, great story revelations and cutscenes. Ardyn picking up his hat and showing his true face. Wow.
Great music.

And I've been thinking this for quite a while (and it was obvious with Magitek etc) but this game is a huge nod to FFVI.
World of Ruin. FUCK.

There's no downside at all to wait mode. I use it all the time. I still think it's odd you can only libra in that mode, though.

Anyway, I'm like 55 hours in the game and on Chapter 9. Been taking my time, exploring, doing tons of sidequests and hunts. I'm enjoying the combat quite a bit. I do wish the story took a more active role in that's going on, though. Seems like nothing much has really happened yet with the exception of the astrals. I must say, though (chapter 7)
I really like Arnea or whatever the dragoon woman's name is. I thought she was just going to be there for a boss battle then gone like that first "boss" in Chapter 1 or 2, but nope, she's cool. Wish she was a permanent member.

As someone mentioned earlier, I really hate how summons are in this game. They look amazing, but I've been playing 55 hours and have only gotten to summon Ramuh once. Never seen Titan.

Nah, it was awful. I was just glad to be done with it. I felt zero reward from any of the encounters.

I don't think it was the hellish nightmare that people made it out to be, but it was tedious as fuck.

Well I feel like Chapter 13 is gonna end up being a Pharos from FFXII situation. Most people's complaint about it is length. Meanwhile I see it as this incredibly epic final dungeon with tons of boss fights and story payoff. Chapter 13 ain't quite on that level but it's still great.

I don't like how people only refer to the second half being rushed, when the first half is rushed as well. Chapters are like 20-50 mins, finding out about destruction of a city not very far away via newspaper, cellphone inconsistencies, etc.

The entire main story is rushed, which is why it's like 10 hours long.

"We couldn't make the story into a trilogy of games so we condensed it into 1/10th of one."

How can I beat this level 50 samurai dude? I'm level 11 but I'm betting there's a clever way in doing it.

Magic spell with Poison perhaps? Does poison last until the mob is dead?

Titan can be summoned when one of your friends are downed. Leviathan when you're in danger and near water. May not always work, but those were the conditions that I've seen around and experienced. Meh, I don't mind a thing where gods basically help you when they feel like it. Got other OP stuff like magic to fall back on anyhow.

It was very, very tedious, but yes, at least it ended on a pretty good note.

Cause the open world makes up for it. Exploring it is kind of part of the main quest. The second half on the other hand has none of that and it's still rushed.

The first half has a blessing where it can be paced longer thanks to side missions. But because the story doesn't really kick in yet, you can get lost in the world and the character interactions.

I got it!! O my god. It only took 5 hours, went from level 50 to 75 looking everywhere when all I had to do was beat the darn game again because I did the bases before I beat it.

Fishing question:

How do I catch the giant fish in Galdin?

Also, I'm ~14 hours into the game, and I'm still in chapter 1. I haven't touched the magic system. Any tips on what I should do with it?

Gonna be starting this today, any tips from those who've played it? Anything I should be aware of/ignore?

No spoilers obviously.

So yeah I started chapter 13 since a while.

I understand everything now, and wow, it's kinda disappointing, really.

General consensus seems to be that control type b is the best. If you can stand the frame pacing it not notice it like me play in high resolution.

Don't really know AP tips, I know Jason has an article up on Kotaku on tips.

Chapter 6 has been a high point for me. Real nice roadtripping with
Iris, photobomb Gentiana was hilarious to me,
took out some high level monsters stylishly, nice scenery, and the end is nice,
great family feel with seeing Cid and Cindy and Talcott at new digs at Caem.

So I'm at chapter 8. When does the game get super linear? And can I go back to Duscae and sidequests at any following point? Do you have to do something?

Also, Prompto is the best VA hands down.

He actually had the most poignant line in the game for me so far. I summoned
Ramuh and the dude did his stuff
, but afterward Promp said, "I know now why they tell those tales." Dude was getting heavy and the line was a perfect delivery that described the awe inducing moment.

After chapter 9.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
Any tips for the big fight? Or is it a lot easier than it seems?

Just stock a lot of elixirs and potions. It will do 9999 hits but not frequently. It's going to be long though.

Starting chapter 13

Luna is dead, Regalia is dead, Ignis is blind, Prompto is missing
The story really makes an 180 after
Altissia
. But so far so good for me

Been a longtime fan since the original on the NES. I just started chapter 2 and somehow I don't feel the urge to play countless hours into it yet. Maybe the story hasn't captivated me yet I don't know.

I feel like I'm playing this game because it has "Final Fantasy" in the title and I'm waiting to be amazed. Hopefully I will be further down the road.

I think it just makes me realize that I really long for a turn-based(or active-time-battle) FF in a fantasy setting once again. Might be pure nostalgia but I miss games like FFIV and FFIX.

Almost 30 hours in and I think unless something changes I can confidently say this is by far the worst Final Fantasy battle system there is. It's horrendous.
