Final Fantasy XV |OT| There and back again.

Prior FF's did have main story fights and boss encounters that required you to set up your party, choose gear, think about weaknesses and prepare for status effects. Strategy was involved, it wasn't just "press X to win" like some people like to snarkily comment. Pressing X to win would mean you're selecting the basic attack command which will lead to a quick game over in most FF's.

FFXV has no such strategic main story fights - they're all QTE setpieces or bosses that are health sponges that you hold O for, sometimes having some parry cutscenes that look cool. The game definitely does not want you to get a game over for the main storyline. There is no fail state.

All fights where your gear, weapons, and items do matter are relegated to optional sidequests/dungeons.
7,8,9,10. You can breeze trough these games with "pressing X" and it's by far the best option to do aside from Summons, Magic get's pretty useless in end game content.

If you grind for 2/3 hours in the majority of the FF games, you ruin them. This is not the case in XV.

Battle system in this game is great. I've been having a blast just going back to Lucis and doing the side quests. The one for getting the aerial conversion for the Regalia was great.

Camera needs some work, but otherwise it's just a blast playing this game. :)

Not just camera, but also targeting system. I don't understand why it's so bad in this game.

Switching target to target or from body part to another is such a pain.

There's a Zu in the Rock dungeon? I went there and didn't find anything, got the Tomb weapon and left. There's a huge space near the nest so I was definitely expecting a fight but didn't get one. Is it a quest?

On a side note, man oh MAN, this game is magnificent. The storyline seems pretty thin though. I'll start chapter 9 and probably binge my way to the end sometime very soon.

I've not even had the game for a week (amazon shipped late so I got it on wednesday), and this has been a pretty busy one to boot, and I've already logged 30 hours, am at level 37, and on chapter 8 having done a pretty decent number of sidequests. This game is so, so fun. Part of me wants to beat it soon just so that I can do so while I've still got my high going on haha.

HAHAHAHA.

I guess I shouldn't choose egg when I get to this quest, then.

Sounds kinda like FFXIII, that you can just auto-battle if you don't care about being fast and efficient, but if you do, then the system really shines.

I personally considered every 4 stars ranking a complete failure.

Man, I have no idea what the other two options lead to, but if you're going to choose egg... At least multitask as much as you can by doing every Rock-related quest at once. I'm really not willing to go back there anytime soon .__.

Rock of Ravatogh has a secret tomb? O fuck me... I just left after beating
the Zu

Oh shit, that's rough. Yeah, the tomb is really missable... Right at the summit, when you go down from the nest and go into the big, empty open area with the slide, there's a narrow passageway somewhere on the sidewalls. Following it will lead to the royal tomb. I almost missed it myself before I second-guessed and checked my map to make sure I hadn't skipped anything.

See I didn't even know you could fight that. Maybe it was either the sidequest or I got lucky, but I was able to just grab the egg and leave.

Now I'm sad I picked the meat.

Where do you go if you choose the meat? I was this close to choosing that but ended up saying egg for whatever reason.

You fight a Behemoth in Leide.

Oh I see. Is it a tough fight? That doesn't sound as bad as having to go through a whole dungeon, at least to me. Fun as it was at the time.

You may be completely right, so I won't debate that point. I never had any issue with targeting (Whenever I feel the screen is becoming too chaotic, I use the hard lock-on).

But yeah, I totally understand why people would complain about it.

I think I'm gonna stop up and do a lot of side quests now. I just started Chapter 4, but I wanna level up, because I can't take on these lvl 30 daemons popping up at night, and some other monsters like the snake at the river.

Also I find it almost impossible to get a Game Over screen on Normal difficulty. I haven't died yet, even when my maximum bar went to zero, I just got a message telling me to do something about it, and then I used a phoenix down and got back up.

Sounds a bit like Dragon's Dogma at night. Can't wait to see it for myself.

IIRC it's a hunt you can get at the station near that dungeon.

I was over leveled for the quest so it wasn't hard at all for me. It was fun regardless.

It's a hunt at the nearest station. Dammit I gotta climb this place again!

Switching target is very easy.

Press target - scroll through enemies/body parts.

Targeting is wonky at times, but this part I found easy.

Prompto-You guys think aranea has a boyfriend
Gladio-why you interested
Prompto-aaah just my curiosity is all
Gladio-why which one would you choose aranea or cidney
Prompto- I have to choose mmm hmmm..
End conversion

If these convos don't remind me of my road trip with my buddies last year so much lol.

What level have people been beating the game at?
40. Final bosses can't handle some good ol 330 powered unicast

44 I think for Noct, everyone else was 42/40ish. Didn't wipe but went through a lot of items to get it done. I had a really limited supply of potions and hi-potions cause I'm an idiot so ran out before I even got to the big boss :p

For the final level
I had to be choosey with which fights I fought, like I avoided the two Nagas but fought the Behemoth. Ifrit didn't give me too much trouble, as I had some Blizzara Quintcasts stocked up, but I did plow through a lot of megaelixirs and megapotions since I had no potions or hi-potions.

I would think this would be obvious but I can't tell offhand. I'm at the weapon shop and can't seem to compare the item I might buy vs what's equipped. How do you do that?

And is it not possible to equip it right away after buying? o_O
Didn't seem like anyone answered this last night. Is there not a way to tell you exactly how much it is raising your stats by when looking at an item in the shop? I can't remember an RPG that didn't show +25 atk or something on the character info screen when looking at an item.

Bottom right of the screen you can switch weapons with square and scroll through characters with R2/L2 to see what is currently equipped. You'll be able to compare ATK level but that is it I think.

Just got through the first Dungeon. It was pretty simple but atmospheric at least.

The Wait mode kinda kills any drama with bosses. Walk into a larger room and Wait triggers, look around for a bit and "oh". Feel like they should at least have a flashy intro sequence before battle starts or something.

How do you use Royal Arms? I have two so far, but I haven't seen a way to do anything with them this far.

Can someone explain how the Elemancy AP perk works?

1 trophy away from my very first Platinum, and pretty much all of the post game dungeons still to go.

Add in NG+ and this might yet hold me over until Persona 5.

The combat is still a mystery to me. How the fuck are you supposed to avoid getting hit all the time? Seems I'm always taking damage no matter what.

Ignis' Regroup ability is OP. It seems like it's just there to make up for everyone except Noctis not being able to defend themselves.

You fight a Behemoth in Leide.

Is it in a distinct location like the egg one or just roaming around the desert?

Will do, will do. Thanks for the tip.

It can be a pain in the ass when you want to destroy a specific part of the enemy first.

You equip them to a slot like any other weapon. Be mindful they take HP.

Everytime you craft a spell you'll gain ap very helpful
If you love using magic like me I suggest you get the ability to draw more from each spot and the one that adds more potency to each spell.

It's a weapon. Just equip it.

For elemancy AP, you gain 1 AP for every spell you cast. If you want some extra AP just craft crappy spells and use them as often as possible.

I'm pretty sure you gain AP for using spells, not making them. I've tested.

Just reached Chapter 13. After chapter 8 the chapters that follow fly by way too fast. The game seems way too rushed at this point and you can see where content was either removed or not implemented because there is essentially two other continents that could have been expanded but were not. I am still enjoying it but the second half, though much more story focused, is a bit disjointed and the pacing is out of whack. Also you can clearly see where the DLC will be implemented into, which should of been in the base game to begin with.

I reached final mission at level 32, I then did some side stuff instead and best the game at 41. I'm level 99 now and I've done pretty much all there is to do in this game...except for sealed dungeons. Those are shit so I'm not going to bother finishing them...though I did use one for a hit to get XP that helped me hit 99.

Be warned that Royal Arms drain your HP when you use them. Some more than others. They are great if you want to finish fights fast, just keep an eye on your health and recover when needed.

One of the strange things about hunts is thst often low level hunts require Rank 7 or 8 while high level hunts are fine and accessible at rank 4.

Saw my first game over screen finally! It happened after I finished the main quest with 40 hours in the game.

I crashed the flying Regalia

Since when is 13 hard? I imported the game back then in japanese without being able to read one thing (only hearing) and just pressed X with changing to certain paradigms when I need them. I only learned to read Haste so I could abuse X even faster. The game was made for people that dont want to think what they should pick lol
