Having had time to reflect on the game, I think I would just barely call it amazing, at least to me personally. I always buy in hard to stories of friendship and love, though, so a lot of scenes in the late game really spoke to me.

Like others, I think my biggest complaint is the inconsistent storytelling. While I feel like I had no problem picking up some of the things other people missed storywise (particularly the Noctis/Luna dynamic, which was still even then woefully undercooked), there were some really baffling decisions.

On the one hand, a lot of my issues with how the story was told can be reconciled by the realisation that this is a story almost told entirely through Noctis viewpoint - we largely see only things he is present for, and most of what he wasn't is provided to him as some sort of vision or flashback, so in a way it's still through his eyes.

That, however, doesn't make some shit like
not seeing what the bros were up to in Altissa, where the fuck Gladio ran off to in Chapter 7, or what the hell happened to Ravus before you find him dead
excusable. I get that it's a story from Noctis eyes, but leaving out key information like that, and never treading back to really explain any of it is pretty bad.

I imagine some of it will be DLC - while I don't readily believe they intentionally cut story to turn it into DLC (in this case it was probably more of "we need to get this game out, trim this. Oh wait, we need DLC too? Well.. I guess we can revisit that instead of just leaving it on the cutting room floor), I can absolutely can see Gladio's time away from the party and what happened to Ignis being turned into those DLC episodes, and if it does happen that's kinda cheap (and this is coming from someone who usually loves DLC and don't really complain about getting to have more content).

They really needed to present come concepts, like the Plague of Stars, better too. I only really understood that because I followed FFvsXIII for years. While I don't know how much they would've done in the original story draft, I was also disappointed that pretty much anyone that wasn't Noctis, one of the bros, or Ardyn got absolutely shafted despite having been so heavily featured in marketing and trailers for the last 10 years.
Why was the Emperor even in this game? Why did they bother to show that old general guy who was in a few trailer when they should've just left him on the cutting room floor?

Despite these flaws though, I really loved the game. I really connected with the characters and the world, and the story for all it's warts came across really well to me and I ended up enjoying it immensely. It's easily one of the best RPGs I've played in the decade it took to come out (though definitely not THE best... not in a decade that had two Persona games and the entire Mass Effect trilogy). If I had to give the game a rating it'd probably be a solid 90 (or an "A" since I hate point based grading scales)

I also want to meet the voice actors and give them a hug for absolutely knocking every line delivery in that whole ending out of the park. Perfection on their part. And for once, good voice direction in a Final Fantasy. They need to get whoever directed this one to stick around.

All of this talk of Chapter 13 makes me not want to pick up the game at all. I tend to stop playing games if I get to a section with more than 30 minutes of something I don't enjoy playing.

See: Batman Arkham Knight, Metal Gear Solid V, Sunset Overdrive.
Batmobile section, defense of motherbase, "tower" defense

Leave that to the thank you message at the end of the game instead of using this thread to inflate your own ego and internet presence.

But thanks for posting!

What crawled up your ass? Posts are free, just put him on ignore if it bothers you.

You'll make it through. Or you could just play the open world for 60 hours and still get your monies worth!

I'm seeing more of an ego from you shit-posting against him than him. How does him thanking people mean we can't also thank developers? Get over yourself and let him enjoy the thread the way he sees fit, geeze.

Great impressions, and they are pretty much my same opinion. I have to add that this game made me care about a villain after two numbered, non-online games of villains I found boring as all hell (XII and XIII). In my opinion this villain was a return to form, and I consider it to be up there with the classics.

Yes, the villain's story was undercooked, but the presence it had was astoundingly good. And it's one of the few villains of the franchise you actually feel bad for.

Is this one of the best Final Fantasy games? Personally, I don't think so, but I feel it is a huge step in the right direction of they can fix the narrative issues for the next game in the series. While the PSOne games remain my favorites, I can easily say I haven't enjoyed playing a FF game as much as this one since FFX. To me, that's a HUGE success.

Before the release of the game, Tabata showed gameplay footage on YouTube which showed more things than that.

Gameplay doesn't always show all what's in the story though, things change and plot twists may or may not happen. it's not the same as having said it straight.

But ignore it, If you think that's not a spoiler, fine. Not going to argue.

Not everyone follows pre-release things.

yep.

Dude what's your problem? You seem to be the one with the bigger ego here.

Ok I think I've maybe broken the game? Post game question.
I've landed the car on the stretch of road near the volcano that is off the map. I see no dungeon, the car will not go fast enough to take off and I cannot fast travel. Advice?

There is a secret dungeon there that will only appear at night.

Haven't been able to play as much as I'd like due to school but every time I play. Every time. I can't stop doing side quests. I'm nearly level 30, 20hrs in and still haven't progressed any further than reaching
Lestallum
in Chapter 3. Damned question marks keep popping... Someone please send help.

Is there anyway to make Cid finish the weapon without resting ?

I sadly am hoarding EXP and the asshole has been keeping my weapon for 20 hours. Resting instantly gets him to call me :/ ..

Beyond obnoxious.

That's how I was, I generally wanted to finish up all of the available side quests and hunts before I moved on to the next main quest. I think I only actually did that a few times early on, but I always did lots of side quests between mains. Overleveled as hell.

Two things

First of all, the deluxe case is beautiful.

Second, anything to keep in mind before I start playing tonight? Any tips you wish you would have known?

Weapons have movesets and most back attacks have invulnerability frames.

You can do a back attack twice in a row.

Played about half an hour of Chapter 13 last night then decided to go to bed, played for another hour so far tonight and need a break. This is quite a slog.

Don't ignore Cindy's sidequests because one will allow your car to go faster.

I realized that after hours of using the slow car to go all over the map doing quests.

I'm ~20 Hours in, and only at the very beginning of chapter 3. Fishing has finally clicked for me. Due to overcoming some difficult battles facing enemies way higher level than me at night, i started farming XP over 9 days in game... i saved up over 30k... i also got the dlc item that reduces the cost of lodgings, fuel, and fast travel. completing so many hunts and finding like 50 some whiskers i had over 10k gil. stayed in the hotel for 2x xp for only 5k gil. went from level 21 to 32...

im totally going to hit the level 99 before the end game wont i?

I think I missed one of the royal arms. In the menu the 3rd in the list is missing. Is there some optional place I should go?

How does the resting bonus work? Is it applied to the XP you already have saved up or is it applied to XP you earn after resting?

If you stay at an inn with a exp bonus, then it's applied to the exp you currently have when you stay there. If you camp and eat a meal with an exp bonus, that gets applied to exp you earn the next day. I think.

Nah, you're pretty far off tbh.

Switch to control type B or C.

Invest AP in skills that let you gain AP from things you would do anyway. Also invest in the air combat skills. Makes combat feel so good.

Thanos acquires the fully powered Infinity Gauntlet in The Avengers: Infinity War, but loses when all the superheroes team up together to stop him.

I'm with you guys. Just short of an amazing game, IMO.

I think, at 32 hours, I'm shelving it until the DLC starts trickling out.

is something I might never do.

Ah, so if I'm sitting on a load of XP It's more effective to bold out until I can get to an inn?

The worst thing about FFXV for me personally right now is that it's reignited my appetite for RPGs (both WRPG and JRPG) and I have such a huge backlog, and virtually no free time this coming two/three months.

Deciding whether I should start on Trails in the Sky (YEAH YEAH I KNOW), DA:I, Berseria import, Setsuna retail, or Neptunia VII.

Someone help.

Final boss on normal comes out of nowhere and curbstomps you compared to everything before it.

Setsuna retail! It's short lol.

Where did you import from? Does it have English text?

A couple of more tips I just thought of. Unlock enhancement skill for Ignis immediately and use it for every battle. Always try to attack enemies for their weakness. Makes battles go like 4x faster. Starshell or whatever it's called for Prompto is great to distract groups of enemies so you can pick them off one by one from behind.

I rewatched most of the old trailers and damn i'm happy i skipped all of those. If i saw those trailers before playing through the game i would be mad aswell.

So I got the trophy for doing 20 sidequests and 40 sidequests, but the trophy for 10 never popped. Has anyone else had this problem? Do I just need to start the game over and do 10 quests as fast as possible?

Thanks.

Ok so I'm in chapter 8 right now have a couple of story questions because I'm super confused.

Why is ardyn and all these empire people helping you out/not killing you? I understand Aranea is a merc but I feel like I missed out on some dialogue where Ardyn says why he is helping out. Is there some secret plan to take out the emperor and he needs Noctis for it? I watched Kingsglaive and I have to say even with that this entire plot setup is confusing as hell. Can't imagine how it would be without seeing the movie or anime.

Well....
Ardyn's true motivations really answer this question, and you find out what that is later. Can't say much more than that
.

I'd be in the dick
Is there a handy list of what items are used for upgrades from Cid? Want to make sure I don’t accidentally sell any of it, especially the ones for the Engine Blade.

Yeah I'm sure there is some master plan it just feels like things aren't really lining up right now from my understanding. I still I am not really sure what the end goal for Noctis is either right now haha.

I don't know why they just didn't add an auto attack option, hitting or holding o doesn't allow me to move the damn camera at the same time.

There are so many little annoying things in this game that could be so easily fixed.
