I have a quick question.
I just ate a meal (this big Chocobo burger I think; it was really tall) that gives 50% extra EXP. Does that stack with the boost you get from resting at hotels/caravans?

Seraphis Cain

bad gameplay lol
I tried to switch near the end but I was just too muscle memorie'd on A and kept getting my buttons wrong :(

I switched to B after 45 hours of A and while it's taken a bit of re-training, I'm pretty much accustomed to it after 10 more hours. Having attack and defend on different hands makes the combat SO much better.

I got the introduction to the cup noodle quest. Fucking amazing, that's what it is.

Got two questions:
  • Do Hunts count towards the sidequest-trophies?
  • I am at chapter 7 now. Just did the thing in
    the power plant.
When do I get new clothes? Kinda hoped it would be more frequent but so far it was nothing.

About the clothes, I read someone earlier mention not a single article of clothing is changed or added except what you have in your gear.
Now watch as people pay $$ for it.

Kinda off topic but I have yet to drop a penny on any DLC except for smash brothers on ds for Cloud. Worth it.

About to fight this turtle guy at level 67. Any tips I should know beforehand?
I would probably level up quite a bit more before you take on Adamantoise. Like in most Final Fantasy's with him in it you better be prepared for a long drawn out battle so stock up on everything.

Just finished chapter 13 and man people are just way too harsh on that. My biggest issue with it is that it was a bit overlong. I'd say cut half an hour and it'd be fine. It's a very different, easy chapter with a lot of diifferent game-mechanics and they all work fine. It's incredibly simplistic yes, but it's a nice change of pace. Why are people so down on it?

I've been playing with the default controls the entire time and I haven't had a problem with it, so I doubt I'll change now.

I hope we get swimsuit dlc like XIII-2. If you're going to pander SE, at least be fair about it.

Also yes, Type C is the superior control scheme.

Biggest key is it moved attack/defend to r2 and l2. Let's you dodge without actually having to move your finger off the attack button. It's so good.
Type B does this too. L1 for dodge/parry and Square for attack. It just feels RIGHT having the item menu on Triangle as well.

So I decided that I'm probably going to get the Lucian skull crest as a tattoo because that shit is cool af and fits artistically with the other stuff I want to get done so it wouldn't seem out of place which is great.

I feel very comfortable with the default controls, and block and parry almost every single time. But I'm surely gonna give these other control schemes a go once I've completed the story.

No matter how comfortable you are with Type A, I guarantee that either of the alternatives is better. Being able to comfortably use both sticks while holding block and blocking without having to move your hand from the attack button is a godsend.

It's fucking disgrace that the Blackmage Village Theme is not in the FFIX soundtrack. Not Alone is great especially in FFXV but I can only listen to it so many times.

That's a bummer.

Yeah, I was having fun with Type A but switching has made things feel way more fluid. B or C should have been the default control scheme imo.

Ending spoilers

Is it presumed that the party members die fending off the demons outside the throne room?

Is the first post-credits scene supposed to take place just before heading out to Insomnia, or was it some symbolic spirit realm thing

Yep

I still think that most people who don't like the battle system are using Type A
I used A the entire game and I loved it. I looked at B and C, but couldn't see how I would like those any more.

I guess I could give C a shot for post-game content and see how I like it, but I feel comfortable thinking I could get the Platinum on A no problem.

It's better to move the camera if you attack with R2 and not O
That was the best thing of type C for me

No. Hunts do not count. When I got the trophy, I had 95 side quests complete. 80 of those non-hunts.

And as far as clothes are concerned:
You don't get new clothes until the last chapter

I feel like I've gone too far using type A controls to switch now lol. Maybe try one of the others on a second playthrough.

The definition of cringeworthy. It is so awful, they even talk like they are recording a commercial.

chapter 13 was somehow the single worst mission I have experienced in my gaming life. Trust me I went in expecting the worse and was still blown away with how bad it was.

It was like 7 layer dip. each layer was another annoying thing I had do on top another.

Me: this isn't so bad.

ME :20 mins later: ah that is kinda cool. I see what they are going for.

Me 45 mins:wooh that was kinda annoying but I am glad it is over.

Me about 2 hours later: I rather do a naked run in dark souls 3. fuck this.

sorry guys. I don't never want to relieve that pain again. Thought GAF was being man babies, but shiiiit. Also to make it clear the mission was not difficulty, just bad.

I'm enjoying this way more than I thought I would. I'm 13 hours in so far, only on Chapter 3 but level 32 already. I haven't even been staying at 2x hotels or anything. The side quests and hunts are just really fun.

My favorite aspects of the game so far are the art direction and the sound design. I have my headphones on and the sound effects and music are amazing.

So, chapter 5 or 6, and Cindy just sent me on a quest into a sewer system that was pretty awesome. Fought some giant snake thing, kept looking for her headlights(lol), then fought
an even bigger snake thing
.

Also found a treasure map, some new weapons, etc. Favorite dungeon so far.

I know what bugs me about the dungeons in this game. They have this gorgeous engine but all they manage to pull out of it are cramped, souless empty square passageways and caves with barely a shred of art direction to spare between them.Bbarely any of them have any light sources to really set any atmosphere either, I get that dungeons are supposed to be dark but cmon lets show of some of that tech. I thought some of them were generated procedually because of how boring they are.

Costlemark for example looks like an unfinished map test made in Valves Hammer editor. just endless bland dark boxes for rooms. Only the boss room seems like it had any effort put into it.

It sounds good. Although, I'm not sure how much I'll like using the shoulder buttons for attack and defend. I'll see.

Type B does this too. L1 for dodge/parry and Square for attack. It just feels RIGHT having the item menu on Triangle as well.

I personally thought C was a little better than B because it allows you to do attack and defend simultaneously, while also allowing you to rotate the camera. B does not allow camera conteol when you are attacking, because your thumb is occupied with holding the square button.

Type A sucks, though, and I can't believe they made it the default control scheme.

Edit:
It sounds good. Although, I'm not sure how much I'll like using the shoulder buttons for attack and defend. I'll see.

I had the same feeling when considering type C, but in the end it works really well for me.

Falk

that puzzling face
The only thing I have against Type C is that Attack and Defend on triggers lacks a little bit of timing precision as opposed to a snappy button press.

If L1/R1 and L2/R2 were swapped Type C would be perfect.

Damn, Chapter
9
has both some really high highs and some really low lows.
That CGI sequence
had me almost in tears, while
Ignis going blind
made me literally screaming WHAT THE FUCK COME ON SQUARE ENIX, and
Luna's death
was too soon,
she should have either received some more story exposition cutscenes
. I don't know how the story goes from here to
Tenebrae
, but they should have had
her travelling with the party for a while from Altissia to Tenebrae, to give the player some time to spend with her, to care about her, and only then kill her off. Because those couple of moments she had were legit good
.

The
Leviathan
fight was visually great and pretty meh gameplay-wise, but i always took those as a natural evolution of the PSS1/PS2 era CGI cutscenes, plus there is no pratical way to fight such giant creatures, so i guess this is fine.

I feel like what you describe was actually the original plan.

Luna's CGI death scene has no real weight to its imagery since all you've ever seen or heard of these super important flowers is one in a book from 12 years ago and a throwaway line that Noctis and Luna picked them as kids.
Then there's the Tenebrae scene
in the field of flowers with Luna and Ravus where Ravus has his artificial arm but that makes very little sense chronologically with the story.

I feel like Luna was intended to travel with the party to Tenebrae, or at least she was meant to survive that long, and the death scene was actually supposed to take place in that flower field.
