Firefox 4

Page loading and scrolling feels slower in FF, but I need my plug-ins. GAF without smileys, user styles and YouTube Me isn't the same. :(

Yeah, having the websites just disappear into the windows taskbar at the bottom makes me uneasy, plus I like hovering links so a bottom status bar like I've always had was one of the first things I went looking for. That addon also allowed me to have a decent progress bar appear inside the url bar while a page loads until the Fission guy or someone else gets a better looking version up for FF4.

After tinkering with it for longer than I'd like to admit trying to get it as close as possible to how I had FF3, I think I'm satisfied enough with it:

This thing is very fast, I'm liking it.

"Recently Closed Tabs" is practically buried now.
I'm looking for an extension that's basically a drop-down menu (or something to that effect) of all recently closed tabs. I have one for Chrome, but can't find a FF equivalent.

All browsers scrolling behavior suck ass, except for Opera. I have extensions for scrolling in both Chrome and FF.

Tab mix plus does this. You can add a toolbar button for recent tabs and one for windows.

No extension, Firefox is just using my Windows color scheme and the button icons get carved into the window (instead of being on the buttons that pop out) when you move them to the tabs bar.

I miss FoxyTunes. :( (I know, I know, it'll get updated eventually.)

Really liking Firefox 4. It's near enough spot-on with my Firefox 3 experience, except moves at a faster clip and cleaner UI. S'all good.

Now I see. I like the tabs at top, but anything below the tabs gets white background :S

This sucks. You used to be able to double click on empty space on the tab bar to open a new tab. Now, since it's also the window bar, double clicking it resizes the window.

What theme is that FatalT?
Just turn off Tabs on Top and you pretty much have his theme. The only thing that really seems to be changed is the Firefox button which is transparent instead of orange.

Why not just click once on the plus sign?

I dropped Firefox like a year ago. Looking forward to trying it out and seeing if there are any good add-ons.

Is there a way to sink firefox with my google account?

Firefox 4 is pretty nice.

How do I move around the Firefox button? I want it to line up with the tabs on top bar, but right now its a row above it.

Ohh. Yeah see I've been using Chrome and Opera a lot so I'm new to the newer versions of FF. Thanks.
CrookedRain and sotodefonk got me covered. Yup, it's just the default theme with the transparent Firefox button and tabs on bottom. It's just taking my Windows 7 transparent windows theme to make it look all purdy.

Ctrl+T is your best friend.

Aiming for things sucks vs click anywhere
get "tab mix plus", then in the options make it open a new empty tab when you double click (or triple click if you have double in use by another function) any of the open tabs

How i set up mine.

used App button clear to make the orange firefox button transparent.
used Omnibar to merge url & search bar.
pinned gmail as app tab.
used roomy bookmarks to hide bookmark names.
and moved the bookmarks bar to the navigation toolbar.

i like it =)

Had the fuzzy fonts but then i unchecked hw accel. and than turned it back on again and it seemed to clear it up. Not sure if that was the solution.

You could just click the + in the tab bar. Otherwise, this should restore your old behavior...

Read comment #27.
Damn, tried it, doesn't work. Thanks though.

An ok work around I guess...I keep clicking on the empty space though. They really should put that in as an option setting.

Did you try it with removing ":not([tabsontop="true"])" from that line? Sorry, I'm at work, so I can't really test it out right now.

works with the classic view. Tick the menu bar (View>toolbars>menu bar).

I'm loving it so far, but there's one last thing that's keeping me from quitting chrome and going back to FF4: I love setting the most-visted / recently-closed page as my new tab / homepage AND having the option to show my bookmark toolbar only on this page. I can't stress how important and useful the latter is.

I'm still going through some add-ons trying to find one that emulates this simple task, and I found some doing a great job at recreating the former but not the latter. Any tips?

Loving Firefox 4. I say this as someone who installed the beta a few months ago and hastily returned to my previous browser.

The addons are awesome, it's extremely quick, and I like customizing the layout to the n'th degree.

Yea I did. I have tabs on top and it doesn't work. Tabs on bottom works though.

#navigator-toolbox > #TabsToolbar {
-moz-binding: url("chrome://global/content/bindings/toolbar.xml#toolbar")
!important;
}

My guess is that they changed some id names around since that solution was posted?

Originally posted this in the FF Beta thread, but I guess I can post it here as well:

I was wondering: is there a FF equivalent to the Chrome extension called Hover Zoom. Whenever there's a thumbnail of a picture, or there's an URL redirecting to a picture, you only have to hover your mouse over said thumbnail/URL to get a popup of the picture in original resolution. It's immensely useful, but I can't find a good working FF equivalent.

Same thing with Google Quick Scroll. When you search for something on Google (like say "neogaf I peed my pants"), and you click on a relevant search result, there will be a pop-up on the down-right of the window, and when you click it, the page will scroll automatically to the part where someone said "I peed my pants". It's very useful, so you don't have to scroll the pages searching for something, or use ctrl+f for it.

You're missing one tweak: "hide search engine name" from omnibar's options. ;)

Yeah, I guess that's possible. Sorry. Double clicking should work for tabs on bottom even without that little snippet so you should just go ahead and remove it. It should only be a matter of time until you can change the behavior using an extension like Tab Mix Plus.

AFAIK it only goes beside the tabs if you maximize it, same as Opera.

The font seems smaller even though its the same font size, and the display of links in the bottom left corner is kind of dumb.

Official version feels better than all of the other releases for sure, but after switching to Chrome after the laggy feeling betas, its hard to justify to come back. I like how I can move the bookmark bar up and i like the Google Chrome touches, but it just doesnt feel as slick as Chrome.

Have a mouse-wheel or middle button? Click it anywhere in the tab bar to open a new tab, also works for closing tabs.

Middle click on the tab bar opens a new tab. Works with tabs on top as well.

Edit: Got beat :(
