with a skirt? (Kilt?) Wow, badass.

As for the COG thing, maybe not if I keep shrinking! Plus I need to find a good quality costume. If I ever "dress up" again, I'm going to get a good quality costume.

something like this?

very cool but seems expensive! and yeah, you'd definitely pull it off. :D

Anyone else thinks muscle guys doing cosplay are cool?

.

I want to do Kano for a halloween party. Kano has never been a huge beast so maybe I can somewhat resemble him in some years, I've already got the beard and skin color, hopefully in one of the next 2 or 3 octobers, I hope, lol.

The only thing I could cosplay as is a praying mantis.

Anyone have any opinions on foam rollers? Worthy investment? What's a good one to get?

One month of GSLP done and here are my gains so far.

Beginning:
Bench - 125
Squat - 155
OHP - 75
Deadlift - 185

Now:
Bench - 140
Squat - 190
OHP - 95
Deadlift - 200

I feel like my Bench is stalling though. I watched some videos on form tonight and my lower body just isn't there in the lift, I'll try and correct that and see if that helps.

Not shitting on you in any way. If you love your job, keep it. But just the description is nuts. I think you can find a better position somewhere else.

Don't get it twisted, I do hate it.

The two biggest call centers within 20 min of my house higher, at entry level, four dollars more per hour with starting insurance and 401ks. As I have previous management experience in a CC, I'll get those jobs no problem.

The place is a joke beyond any reason. It's not like I'm even bad at sales, just working in a gym is terrible.

Fantastic. If you get the foam ones eventually you'll have to replace them. There's trigger point rollers that are expensive but work for life. Or, PVC pies.

Would you be interested in buying some refreshing Visalus and taking the 90 day weight loss challenge?

You're just not good with oats. Find something else that works that doesn't make you sick.

Allow me to point you to my Visalus marketing page, where you can set yourself up for the 90 day weight loss challenge. Start living. Start losing. Start loving.

Sounds good, link?

Damnit, my bench was atrocious today. Had planned to 1RM 90kg, but could barely squeeze out three sets of three at 80kg. Compared to 3x3 at 85 last week with 1 rep at 87.5. Bah.

Starting some variation of 5/3/1, either BBB or something else on the 25th when I get back from skiing. Need some trackable progression/program.

is the strong lift 5X5 a good workout? see a lot of people talk about it

Strong Lifts is Starting Strength with different (better, maybe) marketing. Starting Strength is better and directly translates into Grayskull LP for when you're ready to jump into a bit more advance program to chase either aesthetic, power lifting, or strength and conditioning goals.

You sure you wouldn't rather step back to a slower linear progression program like GSLP? If you want, I can go back and find the link in the last thread that had a few really fucking good (and should probably be added to the op) templates.

LOL, I didn't sign up for the program. They're just making me sell the shakes. I refuse to give them my cash to join an MLM scheme I could get termed for.

Fucking bastages.

When I get another stick up my ass I'll go into exactly what is required of a personal trainer at a club. You'll toss your PC across the room.

The new N.O. Explode, until something comes out that says an ingredient will cause tooth loss, is actually pretty fucking solid. WAY THE FUCK OVERPRICED, but at $20 it's a steal.

Is this the "new" stuff? I'm unfamiliar with PWOs for the most part.

Also, wtf is this about tooth loss? I like my teeth!

Bro-Xplode for $20? Damn. Don't think I can pass that up. Cherry Limeaide... how much like lime does it taste? I have an aversion to lime (bad drinking episode in college). If the lime taste is too strong this would be torturous.

Yesterday was second chest day after beginning my cut, about 10 days in... strength down. A little discouraging but I felt the muscle was blasted all the same without fatigue ruining the day, so that helps keep me sane. A good chunk of water weight in the first 10 days, from 208 to 204.

Slight joke about the teeth. Some people reported fake confirmation of meth use on drug screens when using Jack3d.

So, yeah, it's the new stuff. Didn't make me feel as bloated but only gives you a solid hour or so of pump, however it's immediate. Take it five or so minutes before you train on an empty stomach, warm up, crush weights. Start at .5-1 scoop.

There's really no other feeling of pride similar to how proud you are in doing a deadlift PR.

Congrats Sean.

I personally love Squat PRs more than anything, but then again I suck specially bad at squats so every little victory counts.

Gym was damned near empty so I took a few pictures like a Dbag. Here's two of the results.

It is glorious. The job, and the gym (at midnight).

you look really big.

365 deadlift woo woo! All estimated PRs hit or exceeded. Time to cut tomorrow

yay!

Random sidenote, but it is annoying looking at my self in the morning. Look all deflated and awkward lol.

Looking good Sean!

I've also decided to just bulk up and sort the beach look later once I actually have muscles to polish.

3-3.3k calories a day now, 40% protein.

Hmm, how so? Reg Park put out his 5x5 program half a century before SS was published.

Note: Sean got started on SL5x5
I would not be as critical of StrongLifts either. Every reputable program is standing on the shoulders of giants. StrongLifts may not be the best 5x5 out there, but it's a program of linear progression that works well enough. All the points noting SS's superiority over SL are insignificant in the scheme of things, especially with how the program is written now, so any criticism asserting SL as unworthy of a novice's time in comparison to SS strike me as unfounded. If you want to argue that SS is better I would agree, but that doesn't mean SL is unhelpful for those who want to run it.

For the sake of being thorough and to save a lurker from the inevitable internet search:

Reg Park's 5x5 Program - The Original Strength and Size Routine

Phase One

45-degree back extension 3x10
Back squat 5x5
Bench press 5x5
Deadlift 5x5

Rest 3-5 minutes between the last 3 sets of each exercise.

Train three days per week for three months.

I wouldn't say unhelpful. I would say that SS is better (less volume, longer time frame of being on the program, dem power cleans), though.

However, if I'm being completely honest, what you all really need is a five day a week program with a personal trainer. It's only thirty minute sessions for 560 dollars a month for the next three years, and I'll even cover your gym membership? How about you go get your payment information and I'll get the paperwork started.

Hey guys. I'm looking for some advice for my mom.

She recently had keyhole knee surgery on torn cartilage but is still is experiencing a lot of pain in her knee over 6 weeks after the surgery.

She visited her surgeon yesterday who advised her to start cycling (I have a spinning bike at home) or swimming to strengthen her quad muscles. She is around 68 years old and is probably suffering from osteoarthritis in said knee. She is active enough and takes the dog for a walk for around an hour a day when her knee isn't too sore. She also does yoga for retirees.

If anyone could recommend some exercises she could do I'd really appreciate it. I was thinking of getting her to try doing some squat exercises with light dumbbells but dunno if that would be too much. Maybe some physio style resistance exercises?

Thanks for any help.

I'd agree with all of this, even as someone who hasn't done power cleans until recently. Jim Wendler almost certainly has better form on his power cleans than I do.

I hear box squat variations are easiest on the knees, for those with trouble there.

At her age, condition, goals, she can just use body weight as well.

Touch and go box squats with light dumbbells to assess strength.
Very light leg extensions to do the same.

I can't recommend much online as I'm not with her, but I'd start with those. Also, she may want to work with a physical therapist to make sure she has full knee range of motion.

They may me use terms like "muscle confusion" and talk about six meals a day because it speeds up metabolism.

SIX MEALS A DAY.
MUSCLE MEMORY.
MUSCLE CONFUSION.
FIFTY MORE CALORIES BURNED, PER DAY, PER POUND OF MUSCLE.

Some of the people on here do. It's a hard balance, but doable. You just need food.

I hope fitnessGAF gives you the advise you are looking for.

but given the situation of your mom, I believe she requires advise and real time, live coaching from a specialist, a professional, not tips from guys on an internet videogame forum. Don't get this wrong, I am just worried that you could put your mom to do exercises that may hurt her or worsen her condition.

This.

You need to find her a therapist and real deal PT. If that trainer doesn't have training on dealing with her type of population you tell them to fuck right off. Make sure you see the paperwork. NSCA has a cert for special populations and somebody with a medical degree and PT training would be your best best for qualifications in that department.

Yep. I had 8 PT sessions after my ACL surgery. I cried when I made a single rotation on a bike a month after my surgery. lol

Just goes to show how much we take our health and mobility for granted.

For the record I also did SL for about a month before I knew any better.

Whatever the inspiration was for SL, it's plain that it is modeled after SS, down to the order of the lifts, except done 5x5 and with barbell rows instead of Power Cleans, probably because Mehdi doesn't understand the mechanics of PCs very well himself.

But that's not my real issue with SL. That doesnt really matter. After all GSLP is also modeled after SS and it's great. My issue with SL is that it's a poorly designed program. It's a linear progression, but it's a linear progression that purposefully has the trainee stall his own gains for as long as possible. And I suspect the reason is so that Mehdi can milk novices for as long as possible, by artificially extending their novice phase for as long as he can. Remember, he charges for "consulting sessions" (posturing as a real coach, even though he's just an online guru who has really no idea of programming and who doesn't know how to teach the lifts), as well as for access to his forums.

And then there's his "ebook", which is nothing but a pamphlet rife with misinformation. It reads like an infomercial and it promises the moon and the stars to unsuspecting newbies. Stronglifts is strength training, no more and no less, but Mehdi markets it like it is a panacea the will not only make you strong, but it will give you chiseled abs, huge biceps and make you dick bigger.

So again, why do SL when superior alternatives created by actual coaches with actual experience exist?

Anyway, BRB guys. I'm gonna create my own program. I'll call it BrawnLifts 4x6. It looks like this

A

Squats 4x6
Bench 4x6
Deadlift 1x5

B

Squats 4x6
OHP 4x6
Barbell Shrug 6x4

Add 1.25lb to the upper body lifts per Week. Add 2.5lb to the lower body lifts per week. Start with a 5lb preloaded barbell so you have time to learn. If you have any questions, ask them at my forums brawnlifts.com. All you need is a $10/ month platinum Brawnlifts membership!!!!!
