If Hamilton had been kept behind Bottas, he'd be under serious threat from Verstappen. Either way, keeping Hamilton behind would have been the wrong choice. Higher chance of losing points to Red Bull, lower chance of gaining points from Ferrari. If Bottas hadn't fallen off the pace so quickly it wouldn't have been a massive issue, but Verstappen started closing seconds a lap while Bottas was over five behind Hamilton.

Oh and look, they swapped them anyway. Typical bullshit from the anti Hamilton folks. Swapping like that was probably the only safe way to do it too. Never forget, Mercedes aren't like Ferrari and Hamilton isn't like Vettel. Hilarious today that a genuine mistake from Verstappen gets the same punishment as Vettel's Baku antics.
