forza 2 graphically is shit, when it came out in 2007 i thought it looked meh, especially compared to GT5 prologue which looked leagues ahead. forza 2 had lots of alaising, bad lighting and terrible 30fps reflections. it ran smooth as butter of course but come on it was a bit of a mess, it looked worse than forza 1 at certain times

why US release date? dec 2007 in japan and we had lots of media to compare to, even bullshots of forza 2 looked meh except the super awesome 3d grass! even GT HD looked tons better

haha no! unless you want to compare a fully fleshed released retail game, to a very narrow super-tech demo (or actually two of them), then the only gt game you can compare to is gt5. but that finally came out ..half a generation later.

so the corresponding gt GAME - not tech demo- in that period of time you are looking for to compare to, hmmm.. that would be ..its coming... ->>> gt 4. ;ppPp

whatever, compared to games other games of 2007 didnt look so hot, the jump from 2 to 3 was huge, due to forza 2 looking like my ass

And here I thought a game not existing for a year would make it difficult to compare with a title at its release. I don't happen to agree with your assertions, but you could at least base them on reality (since even with your strange "use the Japanese release" standard, it didn't come out until December of that year.) I'm not even saying Forza 2 was some show-stopper, but acting like it was some visual travesty is really strange for a sim at that framerate in mid 2007.

it looked a gen behind dirt, it was double the framerate but thats no excuse for how bad it looked :D

I guess you havent played one of the two games then...
dirt had introduced that famous yellow filter, was sub-30, had tearing, pop ups etc

maybe we need to judge the games on photos only. then, maybe you will be right ;)

I know quite a few people who rate F2 as the best one of the lot of them.I enjoyed the weekly competions and hope we see them again in F5 .

Probably worth noting that Dirt came out after it as well...

There's also the thing where we don't have to take each other's word on how it looks, and it's manifestly not in the ballpark you're remembering.

this week, microsoft brings something in the form of video, every day.
we had the system videos, dash, the app, now we are on to games videos. a new one was released today for ryse.
soooo... I'm thinking, what game do you guys think they are going to show last? which one will be the climax? ;)

i still play forza 2 till this day due to it being the only one where you can make a custom match without gold, and it looks meh, always has and always will. one of my favourite racing games ever though

Indisputably beautiful. I'd certainly maybe glance at some of these once if I was getting FM5, before spamming the 'back' button and actually playing the game, then wondering why the track count couldn't have been a little more generous.

I'll always question the value of Autovista/Forzavista beyond the gorgeous visuals. Just what exactly does it add to the game? Does the end justify the investment? I know the cars need modelling to a certain degree for the gameplay elements, but producing AV/FV must be an incredible drain on development resources. And to what end? A graphical showcase? The game in motion should be sufficient to demonstrate this. To learn more about the cars? Go to YouTube and get far more depth and detail on the real cars, not virtual recreations.

I guess there must be some people who did sit and stare at FM4's Autovista for days on end, but in the hundreds and hundreds of hours I spent with the game I probably spent less than half an hour in Autovista. There are still some AV cars I've unlocked yet never bothered to explore.

Forzavista is a nice thing to have, but at what cost to the actual gameplay content? Forza existed in three incarnations quite well without it. Was it Dan's way of attempting to trump GT5's photomode visuals?

graphics sell, i just miss the days when all of the game content was the same level of quality, nowadays its always insane menu/photomode shots for console war bs while the gameplay graphics are left behind..who cares about them right!

All Forzavista content will be ready to go on launch day. The first tracks are to be released by the end of January 2014 and a few cars to drive on them are promised by August at the very latest.

I'm kidding!

I dont know.. forzavista on my own, custom cars sounds like it will be great.

that's why i asked yesterday if t10 was considering bringing also the garages from pgr.
its their own ip anyway, and i do believe that having forzavista on your custom cars when strolling around your garage, its like taking shit to the next level 8)

Seriously for a minute: no way. Not a snowball's chance in hell. It's absolutely positively pivotal to the Xbone launch.

FM5 might, might, be missing a few minor features on launch day but you can bet your bottom dollar it'll launch with the console, ready or not.

Don't believe the craziness. DC was never pivotal to the PS4 launch. It was a new IP that looked OK at best from every piece of media that was released. Forza has become a draw for the Xbox, and is absolutely a game MS needs to have there day 1 to push sales. Most people upset of DC getting delayed are trolls trying to stir shit up. Forza will be there, and with the delay, it's even more important for potential sales that it is.

How far off are there showroom models from ingame models?

models are supposed to be the same. image fidelity of course will differ.
different horsepower required for a standing model to look good in a closed environment,
different horsepower needed to have a dozen of them alive with sound engines and physics engines tearing the tracks apart.

how about the fact you cant see the rear exhaust/engine bay through the mesh in huayra gameplay, there are clearly different lods

You are basically saying how Autovista 1.000.000 polygon monsters will be used with the same LOD-detail..

..and mind you, when "same model" is used, it does not mean "same mesh", "same base", "same autocad 3D foundation" - it means 100% same LOD model...

...throughout the game? Like, all 16 cars on track will be LOD0 Autovista models with 1.000.000 polygon, Autovista shaders, Autovista interiors and enginebays and textures?

Well, consider me impressed. Thank you for clarification.

in static pictures, maybe you can say it looks bad. NOW, not 2007 (dont be troling! :D)

but when running, when actually playing, it is impossible to say that, as it still runs and plays better than the 99% of the console games of its kind. (racing of any kind).
worst things you could say is a) reflections are harsh and b) menus look dated now.
i think more or less it will be the same this gen. (the progress from f5 to f8)

Visually, it was comprehensively mediocre. What made the game was the AI, the driving, and the engine noises, which were far and away superior to what Polyphony was doing.

I don't think they're using tesselation. If they did I wouldn't expect to see polygonal edges on the dash speedometer of the Huarya

Why do you have to be so condescending?

They might not completely render the entire autovista model in-game(pretty obvious) but every thing you can see is the same model as the autovista version.
