I'm stoked for this, the first FMA series is probably still my favorite anime series to date. Does anyone know if the Funimation.com stream will work in Canada or are we going to get shafted like we do with Hulu and pretty much any other legal video streaming site?

Oh wow, very good news. I'd happily pay them a premium to download the episodes or maybe get them in HD. This is really the best way for any company to combat piracy... near-instant digital distribution.

The other important thing about the FUNimation announcement is that they also announced they own the TV broadcast and video distribution rights. So it's more than just that they're going to be streaming it.

Also, FUNimation's streams will probably work in Canada. They announced it for "North America," not the US.

Wow, this is impressive for an animation distribution company. Between this and Naruto's rapid releases, I'd almost think they're learning their lesson.

Urgh. That link told me something I didn't want to hear: The director of brotherhood is responsible for two of the weaker BONES shows.

He didn't direct Soul Eater, contrary to what that link suggests. They're just trying to link him with recent "it" shows, and considering they grabbed the rights to Soul Eater not that long ago, they want to pimp it out when possible. In fact, his credits seem to only connect him to the first OP on Soul Eater.

He did a lot of work on the first FMA series, was a key animator on Macross Plus, and was an episode and animation director on RahXephon (on one of the absolute best episodes in the series, from what I recall).

He only did Kurau (Which is great). For Soul Eater, he did the shows 1st OP single handedly.

Starting Thursday, April 9 at 10:00 a.m., FUNimation will deliver high-quality, free, original Japanese dialogue accompanied by English subtitles, streaming episodes of studio BONES' new Fullmetal Alchemist via www.funimation.com as well as key video-sharing partners.

Youtube channel it is for me!

What? Kurau Phantom Memory was amazing. Soul Eater wasn't too terrible either.

Funimation are streaming it on their website for NA region four days after the original air date, and France will be able to watch it streamed as well.

Finally one of these companies takes advantage of the demand that's out there. As long as the quality's good I'll definitely be checking the show out there rather than downloading fansubs. GJ Funimation.

You would think that with less competition out there, Funimation wouldn't feel the need to go the extra mile to cater to the fans but they've improved their game SO much since the rest of those companies went under.

Sooo any word on what they mean by "High Quality"? I'm hoping 720p but streaming that might be tough. At least 540p like YouTubeHD?

So episode 1 was pretty cool. Loooooooots of stuff already introduced.

Animation is hot, too. The art style is definitely darker and more dramatic as well, with some scenes even basically being black and white (and red...).

Also the OP and the ED are awesome. :)

Interesting that they're throwing most of the characters out there already in the OP. Cool song though, can't wait.:D

So whats the word on this? What is it exactly? Will they be following the manga more closely etc? I enjoyed everything about FMA's original run save the final act/movie but everything else was gravy.

The storyline of this anime will eventually merge with the manga storyline. Like the inverse of the original anime, which followed the manga storyline and then diverged.

I like how the OP includes so many characters and events, but doesn't explicitly spoil anything.

Also, the wind effects are amazing.

OP is definitely no UNDO... actually, I don't think I like it more than any of the opening songs in the original.

I think I like it more than Undo, now that I've seen the animation. And regardless of whether you like it or hate it, Melissa was crap and it's light years worse than this new opening.

Melissa was definitely the weakest.

First episode is out, subbed by Shinsen. And it's amazing.

It should be said that the first episode isn't based off the manga at all...more of an re-introduction to the series for new viewers and returning fans. It looks like it'll return to the actual story next week, though. And it'll be slightly out of order, too.

Looks like they're going to do Ed and Al's past for episode 2. While 3 will be the incident in Lior with Rose and the corrupted priest.

Just got the sub of the 1st ep and for some reason the subtitltes are horribly out of sync

This would probably not happen if you're actually watching a legit release! :lol
