Yeah, I mean I understand he was trying to pay tribute because his album has a similar vibe to it, but really terrible cover. The tape itself though, great fucking music. It's a shame the sound quality is so bad though, would love a high quality properly mastered version.

Anyway I think someone asked for my impressions of F&L2...My problems with it aren't that it seems too pedantic or too preachy, but rather it becomes really formulaic at times with its song structure, which fails to complement or add a veil to Lupe's overbearing rap style. Lupe has some interesting topics and his rapping does not lack in technique, but his style is much more shaky, and the production doesn't really seem to flow with the thematic themes of the album. Too often is a good song shattered by a bubblegum chorus led by an out-of-place female collaborator. The best songs are the simpler ones, without a showy hook and without a pop-rap shine. If you're gonna talk about society's pitfalls and the dark side of male-chauvinist trappings you need some gritty atmosphere to give it some context. I don't wanna hear philosophical, tin-foil raps over Drake beats. I'm just not down with that.

Speaking of preachy stuff, the new Brother Ali is surprisingly light on preachiness. While I've never had a huge problem with it in the past, there were moments when I felt like he was just yelling about what a terrible person I am. The new album is much lighter for the most part. It's desperately missing that Ant production though. Focus has his moments, but he doesn't have even a fraction of Ant's skills as a producer.
Ali can go off. Bad Muthafucka pt.2 is my shit.
