List all the sex scenes you can remember from the first book. Then I'll list all the sex scenes I can remember from the first season. Also tell me if the sex is crucial or not to the plot. Example: Dany and Drago together is crucial to the story. Man in a brothel getting a blowjob while watching people have sex is gratuitous, a waste of time, and makes it feel like the director is a horny 13 year old.

Cersei and Jaime in the tower is crucial to the story. Viserys and Doreah in the bathtub is just there to have nudity.

Does it really matter if it is crucial to the story? Was the Hound fighting the guy on the castle wall and knocking him off crucial to the story, or was it just there to have violence?

There is story and then there is world and character building, and sex and violence are part of this world. You are going have to deal with it.

That was to show that there was a tournament happening if that's the scene I'm thinking of. If it was just something random happening on the street, of course they shouldn't show it.

That was there to show how fucked up Joffrey was. Note how Robert tried to stop people from killing at his tournament and compare Joffrey's attitude.

I'd like itemized screenshots.

I'm sure Mr. Skin would have you covered there...and so he does.

The person who said he has a problem with nude scenes because he watches with his mom reminded me of this: http://mymomwatchesgameofthrones.tumblr.com/
The Albino chick…she’s got a big butt. I watched her take her clothes off and go into the hot water and I thought…Oh my God! Look at her butt! She’s got this tiny little waist and her butt’s too big for one person. She does not have a cute little butt. She’s got a butt big enough for two people. You don’t need that much butt.

Also, I don't think it's fair to compare violence to sex. If I want to watch excessive violence, I watch shows and movies or whatever that have a lot of violence in them. If I want to watch excessive sex, I watch porn.

Again, I don't have a problem with sex when it's there for a plot reason, but a lot of it, especially the Ros scenes and those in the brothel, just feel like they're there to fill a sex quota. It would be just as effective in setting the scene to have some topless girls in the background, no need for 10 seconds of extremely loud fake orgasms and hardcore sex. Again, if I want that I'll open a new tab and watch porn.

You could say that sex/blowjob scene was partly to show the kind of "perversions" Littlefinger's clients have (though, quite mild ones at that) as well as showing Littlefinger spying on his customers.

Besides, that particular sex scene lasted maybe 6 seconds, it's not like they had a 5 minute orgy scene in the middle of the episode.

Wait which scene are you talking about? The one where Littlefinger is telling his whores how to fingerbang properly or the one where he peeks at someone peeking? Because the first one certainly lasted longer than six seconds. The blowjob one really didn't serve a purpose as you already have the scene where he talks about a 'return on his profits' which is a much better scene altogether.

Really though, while some of the sex scenes seem rather out of place, they're usually not a big deal.

The only one in the series so far that has really stood out as being absolutely terrible and taking up too much time better spent on other things was that 7 minute finger fucking scene in season 1.

It's too bad too because that would have been one of the best episodes without it.

Interesting that the one episode George RR Martin wrote had zero sexposition. Was that the only episode not to have it?

That was one of his best scenes! That scene showed more about Littlefinger's character than any other in Season 1 or 2.

Honestly? Hell if I know.

I don't claim to have "come up with" or "invented" the term, although that language has been used elsewhere. For me, "coining" is more about framing the term than inventing it - as the first "critic" to use the term within the official discourse around the show, that became the avenue through which other critics picked up the term, and it seemed to enter into a more popular discourse. While "popularize" is therefore perhaps the better word, "coining" is the most common choice by journalists who are writing about it (and who come to me through those other critics), and that's ultimately out of my hands.

Also, as others have pointed out, how do you invent a word that's just adding an "s" to another word? While I don't see myself as the inventor of the word, however, its association with me through these various outlets has led me to take some sense of ownership over it, which has led to some confusion over its origins (which isn't helped by the selectivity of journalistic accounts).

I really wasn't trying to call you out for it. I'm glad it's given you and your blog more visibility - you should take advantage of that, if your goal is to gain readership. I honestly just was curious as to who first came up with the phrase, considering the fact that it's become so tightly tied to this specific series. What I really found interesting was how quickly GAF picked it up and used it after that first instance, as if it had been around forever.

No harm done, though. I like your blog and I'm glad you're getting publicity out of it.

Umm.. "You could say that sex/blowjob scene was partly to show the kind of "perversions" Littlefinger's clients have (though, quite mild ones at that) as well as showing Littlefinger spying on his customers." I don't remember any blowjobs or Littlefinger spying in the fingerbang scene.

As I said, it serves a purpose in showing what kind of services the brothel offers than just basic sex (making it a somewhat more complex place than just a basic whorehouse). It's not necessarily super important, but it still shows what goes on there (it satisfying the needs of all kinds of people, i.e. the guy with the peeping tom fetish) and Littlefinger gathering information on (possibly) influential people around the city (gaining information on them that could prove beneficial if the situation arises).

The reason I asked is because you had the sex part in that, not to mention we weren't really discussing that scene anyway. It's a redundant scene on multiple levels. It doesn't even work as a good contrast scene unlike the scene Porthos pointed on. The best you could say is that it had comedic value.

Interesting that the one episode George RR Martin wrote had zero sexposition. Was that the only episode not to have it?

Last week's episode had no sexposition in it. This week's episode has no sexposition in it. The premiere didn't have any sexposition in it.

There was lots of sex in those episodes, and there's some sex (of sorts) in this week's as well, but there's a difference between sex scenes and sexposition. While the former raises questions more related to narrative development, the former raises questions about the general appearance of nudity in premium cable - both are valid questions, perhaps, but they're not the same questions.

I really wasn't trying to call you out for it. I'm glad it's given you and your blog more visibility - you should take advantage of that, if your goal is to gain readership. Nor did I feel you were calling me out for it - just took it as a chance to make some points clear.

Well, there was sex before it moved on to the man getting a blowjob.

But yeah, as I said, it builds up the brothel as a place that serves other functions than just your basic whorehouse (and it had some comedic value as well, sex doesn't need to be taken so seriously all the time). I do think the transition to that scene could've been handled better and the talk with Roz afterwards wasn't the best thing ever to grace the TV Screen, but you could still argue the sex wasn't completely pointless at all. Something that could've perhaps been left out? Maybe, but it does service a purpose. It gives yet another new glimpse at what Littlefinger does, other than manage a successful brothel.

And again, that scene lasted less than ten seconds. It's not like you could've added a new, lengthy Arya scene into the episode even if that sex scene had been left out.

This probably isn't news at all to people that kept up with the casting and referenced actor's work.

I'm just now watching Doctor Who for the first time. Started with "Series 5", 5 episodes in and I've come across the actors for both Ser Jorah and Salladhor Saan. Surprisingly, it took me longer to place Ser Jorah because I didn't recognize his face, but his voice.

I'm sure more will pop up as I continue.

The actor who plays Ser Jorah is also in Downton Abbey (season 2), and plays quite an awesome character

Anyway lol...

A lot of viewers and reviewers have said the Pyke/Greyjoy theme is their favorite of the season, perhaps the series even. So far what is you guys' favorite new theme? I love the foreboding Dragonstone/Stannis theme.

I'm kind of bummed the soundtrack hasn't been released yet

Its just sex/nudity and you call it wasting time and I just shrug it off. Is it because sex is the impetus for whatever exchange is happening between characters?

Anyways, excited for tomorrows episode, I expect some bug things to start happening.

Was
Gregor
in that final scene from the last episode? I can't remember.

In the book, I remember there being a real dread following that chapter. Like the kids are really fucked now. With the show, I don't think there is that dread with the people that haven't read the books.

I don't think so. We saw Amory Lorch and that bald dude who bodied Lommy.

So I just got into this show because I was bored as fuck. So despite this is season 2 thread, I have a question about Season 1. I'm only on episode 2 but
Was the queen fucking her son in that tower?!
I just want confirmation on that.

The queen, Cercie, was fucking her brother, Jamie. They are twins.

New episode tonight.
Garden of Bones

Joffrey punishes Sansa for Robb’s victories, while Tyrion and Bronn scramble to temper the king’s cruelty. Catelyn entreats Stannis and Renly to forego their ambitions and unite against the Lannisters. Dany and her exhausted khalasar arrive at the gates of Qarth, a prosperous city with strong walls and rulers who greet her outside them. Tyrion coerces a queen’s man into being his eyes and ears. Arya and Gendry are taken to Harrenhal, where their lives rest in the hands of “The Mountain,” Gregor Clegane. Davos must revert to his old ways and smuggle Melisandre into a secret cove.

When I got Game of Thrones last summer I was like "pfft, no way am I going to ever finish this", as I hadn't read a page of a book in years. After a few pages I was hooked and throughout the next couple of months I read 5 massive books that I thought I had no hope of finishing.

This next episode should have one of my favourite scenes in the series, I hope they get the peach right.
