I get what your saying but just because someone wants to create a rated R film doesn't mean that they want to put all of those elements in the movie. Maybe they just wanted the movie to be extra bloody and violent so they get the R rating or maybe they wanted more explicit sex scenes or a ridiculous amount of foul language.

It really does tend to be a matter of what they are focusing on in the story. Plus I don't go into a rated R movie expecting those things. Maybe some killing and some sex willing or not. I really just think you are just wanting them to go a lot darker than they were ever going to go.

I'm guessing from your description they just wanted to focus on a more fighting realistic violent version of the samurai and ninja games rather than cover all of the mature elements of that time period. Probably a history channel version that tones down the graphic-ness of the times.

Killing innocent and defenseless people of all ages would create more impact but kids tend to be a no go. You might see a raised sword and then the lifeless body of the young person.

I get what you are saying, but in this situation, its literally about an event where such things took place and would make no sense to actually do something based on the event, and then not talk about or show the event.....

I agree with the history channel comment lol That is pretty much what Ghost is imho.

I see no reason to have such a thing as a no go in a M rated game. That is the training wheel, sugar coated things I mean. I like Ghost, but I'd love it if it was actually about how those events really took place vs the PBS version of how those events took place.

I'll take one line of Directors Cut kthanx

Then you would have to add rape and child erasing to pretty much every game that has war since it happens every time. It isn't really training wheels or sugar coating, if I was going to make a game that had those things it would all be implied or talked about rather than actually shown. I would mainly just focus on the killing. You want a more mature coverage of the whole event.

A more mature type of story telling I guess could have been done to show the horrors of war in either visuals or someone describing what happened to their family and you could witness the agony the event caused that character.

Going to pre order the ps5 version. Play a new game plus, more legends content and the new expansion. $30 is a fair day 1 price as they don't charge us $20 to buy cosmetics for the online mode.

I bought this game for €30 on sale and they deserve the extra. The only reason I didn't buy it day 1 because I was busy with TLOU2.

20 for the ps4 to ps5 seems fair
For dlc and dual sense support

30 is just dirty..
Go f yourself 🤣

base game already runs 60 on ps5
Not going to pay 30 for an island and dualsense support 👋

wait are they pretending the game now runs 4k 60 on ps5?

THE FUCK? xd
Also that $70 retail might just be a PS4 disc with a code inside. I’ll wait to see how this shakes out but tepidly interested.

I came here happy for a DLC only to notice some people are talking about Bloodborne.

You guys seriously don't take a break on this.

Is this going to be the same hassle that was the transferring of save files from FF7 remake? I wish Sony would have a better system in place. Price wise it would have been lovely for $20 instead of $30. But Sony has to get their money!

Seems like you do realize it’s okay to critique then. You don’t wanna backtrack but you’re sort of avoiding the topic now.
of course it is allowed to critique. But nowadays it already starts with an announcement. people don't even know how long the expansion takes to complete and cry about overpricing.

Upgrade prices:

GoT PS4 > GoTDC PS4 $19.99
GoT PS4 > GoTDC PS5 $29.99
GoTDC PS4 > GoTDC PS5 $9.99
Right, I really dont see what folks are complaining about.
Uncharted 4 Lost Legacy expansion cost $40 at lanch, the same with The Last of Us expansion.

This is Ghost Of Tsushima expansion that cost $30 which include not only the expansion but also a PS5 native port upgrades if you own the game on PS4.

If someone never bought G.O.T. then they can just buy the PS5 directors cut for $70 which is the PS5 version of the game + online Coop + expansion.
Whats the problem?

I agree that no one should "cry" about pricing for the expansion, but I do think it's questionable that Sony still wants to charge for an upgrade to next-gen, especially for such a recent game. If someone paid for the game, then paid for the PS5...let them play the updated version. That's sort of the age everyone else is headed into besides Sony. I think it stings a little extra, because Sony is very stingy about backwards compatibility.

I guess they wanted it to be standalone... :/

the difference from 1800p to 2160p is worth $30 in Jimbo's eyes I guess....
Ghost PS4 Pro uses checkerboard 1800p and that is less than 1440p in pixel count.

The $10 is for Japanese VO lipsync, DualSense haptics, higher resolution, 3D audio, faster loading, etc.

The $20 is for the new DLC on Iki Island. New story, enemies, mini-games, gear, music, etc. Plus a director's commentary.

Correct. And if you have the base PS4 version and don't want to upgrade to any of the GoTDC, you could still play it on the PS5 via BC with the framerate enhancement...for free.
Yes this is the key point, if the upgrades aren't for you, or if you're not bothered about the DLC and have other stuff to play, just use the free PS5 at 60fps option (assuming you can get hold of a PS5!).

Which was free, but let’s forget that and complain about a new location, story driven, enemies, etc., being charged.
yeah, which just happens to be one of the best DLC ever made IMO and it's still in the box, expanded. The value of this package is just insane and we don't even know how big the single-player part is.

if I was going to make a game that had those things it would all be implied or talked about rather than actually shown.
Nothing wrong with that, but that basically this game, much is implied in a medium where you visually see in a free formed open world, I get if it was a linear game or something, but they let you freely roam about and the things they imply, can't be viewed visually to fully draw the narrative out. I see no reason to SOLELY imply that in which visually can be seen. Might as well write a book using such logic as suppose to making a game, but you'd do what is basically done in this game more or less.
You want a more mature coverage of the whole event.
Pretty much. I want the raw reality of what happened as it is a mature rated title. To give me an open world and then to simply imply things much be done in it or could have happened or anything like that seems silly to me based on what hte medium of gaming actually is and allows. I understand implying in a book as you are limited, I don't understand limiting information in a medium that allows you to see, hear and explore the very world they are implying or hint this or that occurred in.

So we already have what you are talking about that you'd do, thats what most games do....

You pretty much aren't going to get that from a game for the most part. Simply because that is how it is at this time when it comes to games. The only kind of reality we get is dealing with emotional trauma and that is usually just indies. Maybe you might get it from Europe but not from a American company. Even Naughty Dog last of us is just a hbo series when it comes to the graphic violence and sex content.

PS: Sony doesn't get even close to the level of "free shit" (for using your wording) Microsoft Flight Simulator offers, in any game. The fact that they're starting to nickel and dime next-gen upgrades is in no way a good sign.
This sort of thing happens across all of them though.

Gears of War Hivebusters is three hours long, yet costs $20, or you're 'forced' to subscribe to GamePass Ultimate to access it.

I don’t know, I paid 70€ day one on PS4 and now sony asks me 30€ more for upgrading (and there is now other way, + blood & wine costed only 15€ whereas tsushima expansion - which I don’t really care about - sure as hell won’t be so deep).

I just feel Sony does not respect me very much as a loyal customer, especially when I compare it to other publishers. And I don’t really get why Sony hardcore fanboys don’t understand this.

Was my GOTY of 2020 and I've been thinking of replaying it anyways, so I will pay $30 to replay it on PS5 with all these nice upgrades. JP lip-sync and haptics will be so great.

Only because it was my GOTY. Wouldn't $30 upgrade on most games.

Potentially dumb question but if I'm currently playing on PS5 will I simply be able to download the directors cut digitally and resume my save from where I left off?

If you already own Ghost of Tsushima on PS4, you’ll be able to transfer your save to PS5 to pick up where you left off. For new players, the new Iki Island content will be available beginning in Act 2 of Ghost of Tsushima, after you’ve made your way to the Toyotama region.

Go read a history book.

Wanting the "raw" absolute horrors of life and war in your entertainment is a bit disturbing if you ask me.

This is a video game.

I'm definitely in the camp of "Thanks, but no", and now I'm not interested in a GoT2, either.

I enjoyed GoT at the time on PS4, but hated the shallow combat hidden beneath a skill-tree - a current trend that is just lazy design IMO, and hated it even in a great game like Spidey - and like others, just feel like PS is taking the gamers for mugs now.

BC for PS1 and PS2 should easily be on PS4 and PS5, and they've had 7years to workout PS3 BC for PS5, it is just miserable take, take, take IMO.

At the transition from the esoteric PS2 hardware to even more esoteric PS3 hardware - after they'd removed HW PS2 BC compat - a similar game launching across gens - Shadows of the Colossus PS2 got a PS3 patch to take it to 720p30 for free IIRC, so the argument about them needing more money for this work rings hollow.

The work was getting done anyway to move their engine to be native PS5 for GoT2 development, and GoT is still selling, so releasing all this for free would just add moment to existing sales. Charging again for DLC that was in the design of the full game(most certainly) and cut, along with more money for a Ps4 to PS5 native app upgrade - and no next-gen graphics features involved to boot - really isn't a good look here.

Considering that I got the PS4 game on sale for $40 over the holidays and it already runs at 1800p 60fps, this seems steep to me unless the expansion is really meaty.
Maybe I'll reserve judgement until I hear how long it is but I really wish they went the FF7 route and gave the base upgrade for free but then charged for the DLC
I'm also wondering if this Director's Cut will release on PC eventually...
