You're never going to be bored in Hope's Peak Academy's wild world of murder, despair, and bears, but you might occasionally wonder why it's a game.

Dammit, Patrick. Dammit.

here is zero reason for one of the game's women to be shown in a provocative, seductive position on her bed, with her underwear fully on display...but it's there. Call it fanservice, call it whatever you want. It adds nothing to the game, and it's not part of a romantic relationship arc. Another scene involves the player being able to spy on the women in a bath house. It's only viewable if the player has a particular item from the school store, however, and is not presented as a "choice" for the player. It's unnecessary, the kind of thing where you have to hide your Vita in the middle of a bus ride, hoping you don't have to explain you're not looking at porn.

THE FUCK?

(Another moment that should be mentioned is also a spoiler, so feel free to skip this paragraph, if you'd like.
One character, whom I won't mention, has the discovery of their "true" gender used as a cheap plot device that's not handled with very much sensitivity.)

No Patrick, no. Is no sensititive BUT is not a sensitive situation or context.

For those that aren't reading the chat of the Titanfall QL, Drew mentioned that the Alt+F1 podcast will be posted once the QL is over.

You could spy on people in the Bathhouse? I obviously didn't have that item in my playthrough and other than the fat nerd everyone was a bit disturbed by the idea of spying on women.

The game is around a 3/5 though he's right. It's not perfect but it's interesting/different at least.

It's unnecessary, the kind of thing where you have to hide your Vita in the middle of a bus ride, hoping you don't have to explain you're not looking at porn.

Looking at porn? It's incredibly tame there's not nudity at all, soft core porn at least has nudity. Maybe 'porn' for Patrick is lingerie catalogues.

This is the pornographic scene that Patrick complained about:

Wrong.

It's this, at the beginning of chapter three.

And I never said it was pornographic, only that it was embarrassing, out of left field, doesn't fit the game, hurts the genre appealing to outsiders, and makes you have to act like you're watching porn when it comes up out of nowhere.

But I am over sensitive...

Ok, thats not very bad at all. I was just watching an episode of shinchan last night that took place in a bathhouse. All the characters, especially hottie nanako were in towels. I haven't played the game so I don't really know how the scene plays out, but that is pretty PG. Those hyper accentuated butts can't be exclusive to the towel. I'm assuming they're drawn that way regardless of what they're wearing.

He guys , what going on...

OH

FUCK IT. STOP IT. NO. NO. NO. NOT THIS. GO BACK TO TALKING ABOUT MAKING BOMBCREW MEMBERS YOUR DAD OR SOMETHING. NOT THIS. STOP THIS THOUGH

I like this new direction. Tired of the Persona4 fan art. DanganRonpa is the new king!

Patrick, no offense, but that stuff is pretty tame compared of what people read in public view in my city (not exactly proud of that).

Oh shit that girl in the background is about to die.

Someone shoot a truth bullet at her or something.

I'm worried about the other girl who looks to be drinking wine in a jacuzzi. She looks unconcious. I bet she had a heat stroke.

Based on the gameplay alone, I would've given Danganronpa 3 stars, but the characters made such a lasting impression on me (to the point that I would make an alpaca version of one of them) that I would personally give it an extra star.

The court room scenes were poorly done, gameplay wise. The attempt to add action elements to the game by having you manually aim your "truth bullet" at witness statements was a poor implementation, and it just got more and more complicated as the game went on. The hangman and rhythm game segments have zero basis logic, so they ended up just being arbitrary mini games to advance the story.

I didn't really have a problem with the fan service parts of the game. They're dumb, I don't enjoy them, but it's just what Japanese games do. I don't want them to do them, I don't think they should do them, but whatever, they do them. I'm convinced it's some weird otaku culture thing about fake cartoon girls that I just don't get. There's worse out there than Danganronpa. Hina crying in her underwear isn't as creepy as an 11 year old goth girl putting her socks on.

I hope Patrick continues his trip through visual novels with Ace Attorney. It's way better than Danganronpa in that the logic puzzles actually involve using logic based on truth bullets (or "evidence" as Ace Attorney calls it) rather than arbitrary rhythm games.

I don't think he called it porn per se - just that anyone from the outside looking in would consider it such - and you'd have to explain why it isn't.

I wouldn't call it straight up porn (edit: nor does Patrick, misread his review), but I would probably put my Vita away if scenes like that popped up on a bus ride.

I don't think he called it porn per se - just that anyone from the outside looking in would consider it such - and you'd have to explain why it isn't.

But that is kind of independient of the game itself and more in line with the sensibilities of other people.

I do really want to play the Ace Attorney games after playing Danganronpa but I don't know how I'll feel about not calling evidence 'Truth Bullets' and instead of objecting stuff I play a shitty rhythm game...
