Literally nothing he said was worth apologizing for, yet he still did and said he shouldn't have said that, all because he's worried about offending Dan because he thinks of him as a friend and not someone he's paying to entertain him. If he didn't say what he did, Dan would've missed out on some very legitimate criticism.
Criticism is necessary. Someone saying they don't like Ben's voice shouldn't be out of bounds. Someone saying Ben has a shitty voice and he sucks and should be fired is out of bounds.

Eh I guess, I just kind of think complaining about natural traits is still kinda shitty in a way, mostly because I've been made fun of for my own voice and the way I speak that I'm still hella self-conscious about it, but then again I don't have a job involving my voice.

To me he seemed like a nice fellow who's treating someone the way he'd like to be treated is the way I viewed it honestly, not because he thinks Dan is his friend. However, I do agree with your last part is that that kind of criticism doesn't really help anyone in the long run.
It's particularly egregious there because the dude was very polite and gave reasonable criticism. He had nothing to even apologize for.
I was in a similar situation once regarding a game on this board and I actually did apologize but it was because I was extremely harsh in my opinion and then later the dev posted in the thread and I felt bad. I just apologized for the tone of my post.
I think it's appropriate if you see your criticism as too much to apologize but that Reddit poster was very reasonable.

FWIW I do actually think that Ben could probably improve his cadence and train to get out of the vocal fry register, but I can tell you from experience it does kinda suck to feel like you have to constantly check yourself on how you sound.

As a huge fan of both GB and the McElroys, I think you're way off base here.

He will get more comfortable as time goes on.

I've watched several streams of the game, honestly the QL was pretty representative. It's a neat idea, but there are very few things you can actually do as a crew member.
Ben made Will Smith a sadboi and for that he can't be forgiven tbh
I suppose, but overall I think the QL itself could've been more substantive.
It's really great seeing Will and Ben at each other's throats, lol. Best thing about it.

I wouldn't say Patrick sucked on video, but he hadn't quite yet acclimated to the GB vibe. Before GB he'd already had been on tons of 1UP.com video content.

To be clear like Ben still hasn't gotten the amount of unwarranted shit that patrick got. Patrick is pretty good at picking out the signal from the noise though, and address things that he feels are valid.

As someone who kinda totally hated on Patrick too damn much early on instead of giving him time. Patrick handled that stuff like a champ. If anything he probably cared a little too much because the dude actually got in touch with me and wanted to know my opinion on stuff. I was the definition of a random internet asshole and he reached out. That takes something.
I remember saying I hope he is able to get his own video thing going and he responded with telling me he was tossing around the idea which I guess became spooking with scoops a few months later.
How many nude Polaroids will this get me if I buy him something off his wishlist?
I feel like the shit Ben gets isn't nearly as over-the-top as the shit Patrick got. The shit Ben gets is mostly about his voice and sense of humor, the shit Patrick got was for being a decent person. I'm not even a big Patrick fan and know that most of the bullshit directed at him had nothing to do with things he did on video or on the podcast.
Even if I'm not a huge fan of his, I give Patrick all the credit in the world for being able to weather all the bullshit from assholes and actually being able to scrub through all that to find legit criticism and make himself a better on-air personality.

Like when the ps3 was lagging behind last gen sony's strategy was to drop the price to 299 and put out Uncharted 2 and Gran Turismo 5 and stuff.
Microsoft has some neat games coming but their box is gonna be expensive, maybe they'll drop the price on the base model by a lot or something?
