Guerrilla art director says the studio was ‘done with’ Killzone, prefers working on Horizon

Oh FFS, you can tell that this is not true given how much better Horizon Zero Dawn was compared to Killzone Shadow Fall.
KSF had an awesomely fun MP mode. Don't they want to make successful multiplayers games nowadays? Oh I forgot those are going to be creatively done by one team now.

More diverse …

That’s why they wanted horizon they don’t want diversity and color and rainbow shit.

Fuck you and your colors . Go sink in a hole. Someone bring an art director that can bring killzone back instead of this diversity freak

Missed quoting what I think is the most standout quote of the article:

"I think the themes that this story and the characters represent are relatable for all ages and people, like having a found family of friends and finding your place in the world," the developer continued.

GOTTA APPEAL TO EVERYONE OF ALL SHAPES, SIZES, COLORS & GENDERS

......(Well then why, Guerilla, are 90% of the characters black and/or female in Forbidden West?)

Im excited to fuck around with the remaster next week, but holy shit am I more excited to see this series burn out for exactly the reason above.

The first Horizon was a really good game. The second one took the completely wrong approach to Aloys character and really dragged towards the end.

Hopefully the third one can have a tighter narrative and better direction. I do want to see how the story ends.

After the third game they can do something else. Maybe something fantasy related?

Always felt the civilizations in Killzone were absolutely wonderful with taking refuge in Helghan, Vekta and I love the idea of the human colonies in space, with one being dangerously badass.

Killzone 2 and Mercenary were bad??

I still have physical copy of Mercenary even though my vita was dead and KZ2 at my brother place.

I miss Resistance franchise more than Killzone, but I think it’s time to put Horizon to rest. The saturation around it has already set off some warning bells.

How about a new IP? Isn’t anyone at GG excited about that?

You were essentially implying that studio leadership forced the team to abandon Killzone to focus on Horizon, while you could already tell from Shadow Fall (and 3) that Guerrilla wasn't particularly fond of the series anymore and wanted to move on to new stuff, which ended up being a much better game on Zero Dawn.
Also, variety? It's not like Guerrilla had any varied output pre-2017, and this is ignoring the fact that most studios out there only work on 1 game/series. Weird thing to judge Guerrilla on.
Guerrilla Games didn't want to make more Killzone games, that's the hard truth.

Gran Turismo 7 and Helldivers 2 and says hi, though.

I remember hearing Insomniac say the same thing about the Resistance series. That's why the next game they made, Sunset Overdrive was so colorful.

Other than the diehards everyone was done with Killzone. People look back now with rose tinted glasses but the apathy now that some have for Horizon was were worse for Killzone.

In the Sony leak Shadowfall sold really poorly. It's frankly nuts some people expect Sony to drop Horizon and go back to Killzone.

We were done because the saga went progressively worse with 3 and shadowfall, kinda natural if you ask me.

Same happened with dragon age fanboys.

I used to feel sorry for the Guerrilla company, because they made a lot of effort and there were other games, I bought Killzone from them and they turned into hungry wolves.

I'd say 4 games is enough (6 if you include PSP and Vita)

That being said, this is one remaster/remake I would like to see
At this point the series just needs a collection remaster. If they include K2 multiplayer then that's a bonus.

A New IP would be much preferable to another Killzone. Loved the series so still sad it's over.

Killzone 2 still holds up better than most shooters have in the 15 years since it's original release. Loved that game.

What I don't understand with Sony's strategy is why they're focused on remastering crusty new games that already look fine on PS4, instead of revisiting older titles from PS1-PS3 era.

Can you even imagine KZ2 & Motorstorm 1 & 2 running on a PS5/Pro. Jesus.

Yeah

This forum has forgotten the hype of Horizon zero dawn reveal. That was one of the most crazy next gen I can't believe what I'm seeing reveals ever.

Nobody wanted killzone after the Horizon gameplay reveal.

Saying that they should probably do a New IP after the 3rd game.

I won't argue it's easier to market and sell a game like Horizon than a game like Killzone (especially if it remained a linear shooter). Maybe give the IP to some other studio and see what they come up with? We really lack bigger budget shooters right now... you either have Call of Duty or a gazillion of lower budget boomer shooters as the only choices. And Doom once every 5 years.

This franchise should receive at least one remaster and if acceptance is good, a new game from another studio, since Guerrilla is too stupid and prefers to work with Horizon, which has already become saturated.
At least we have RPCS3, although this is a very demanding game. On my 5600X, I can get a maximum of 30 fps.

Killzone was super over rated as an IP. It only got the attention it got because it was graphically impressive, and there was the kerfuffle with them lying about that trailer not being canned CG. There aren't enough fans of that series to support bringing it back.
It's a great IP shackled to mediocre games. None of the games in the series live up to the promise of the lore and setting they made.

If Horizon had walking and terrain traversal mechanics like death stranding it would be so sick. It looks so pretty but it's also boring in-between actually fighting enemies.

The personality of the guns and therefore the factions is lost. Helghast weaponery are mass produced, and therefore weak, small caliber and little precise. Based on strategies of saturation their secondary weapon attached to the gun (something missing in the sequels) is a shotgun for the same reason. Their philosophy of war is reflected in their weapons: life is cheap, throw as many bodies to an objective until it’s cleared. The imperial guard of the KZ universe. The ISA rifle was a very slow cadence big caliber heavy weapon where you could feel every shot (you could even see it slowly trespassing the battlefield). It was an elite weapon for a small elite force better equipped than the mass produced Helghast. With their attached grenade launcher for crowd control. You could play tactical with ISA weapons or assault positions with invader’s own weapons. Everything in KZ2 feels like a XX century rifle of some flavour. Distinguishable as an M16 and an AK are, but not unique and coherent with centuries of human evolution. Meh/10. Won’t buy a remaster.
So its a horrible game because they...changed the guns? You do realise how delusional that sounds, right? I think people like you need to play actual bad games before spouting this nonsense online...

And for the record, I loved the new guns. The stellar visuals/sound design really add to the experience and the ADS looks amazing.

I am done with Horizon, i prefer playing other IPs.

I would also gladly buy a Killzone 2 full price remake.

In a game where you basically interact with its world through guns? Yeah! Pretty nitpicking of me, right? Oh, and I have played my fair share of bad games. I bought that Turok game for PS2...

What a shame. Sony doesn't have any decent first party single player FPS games in its current lineup of active franchises.
Is it a shame? They dumped a mediocre franchise and the studio went on to make the biggest new IP PS has seen in a long time. As much as people on this site want to hate on Horizon it's one of Sony's best selling franchises.

You're way overblowing my statement for what it actually is. It simply doesnt hurt to make a different genre every once in a while. Yeah theyre certainly doing better now from the fact that they had to remaster a fucking modern game and ask money for it lmao.

They barely made two Horizon games, lol.

Your account is from 2019, you should be aware that this is one of the most common things out there (look at the best selling game on Switch!), and I don't really think HZD is that modern anymore; it's close to being a frickin' decade old at this point.
Anyway, the remaster is made by Nixxes, and if you count the co-development work they did as a Guerrilla project, then Lego Horizon should be is of a different thing (gameplay wise) compared to their other games, so I believe you should be happy?
