Having second thoughts about getting a PS4 during the launch

Getting consoles on day one is like playing Russian Roulette. It is wise to wait for those first ones that will most likely be defective get bought and fixed in the next version.

I'm inclined to agree. But I'm still getting one on launch.

For me it's about investing in a platform. I weigh the pro vs con for each platform and once a choice is made I tend to grab it on launch even if there aren't many games I'm crazy about. I know more will be coming.

I bought the 360/ps3 6-7 years after they were out. The Wii u was the first console I bought at launch. I won't be doing that again. I've learned my lesson.

Did you somehow not see that whole Wii U thing coming a mile away?

I got a Wii U at launch, too, but I haven't considered a Nintendo console to be anything more than a 1st party game machine since the N64. When the occasional standout 3rd party exclusive comes out for a Nintendo system, it's just gravy.

It's looking pretty packed games wise tbh, I'm dumfounded people think there's not enough.

It's about tastes. Only The Witness in that whole list interest me.

Its too close to launch time

Yeah, you're probably right, but launch lineups tend to fluctuate like mad up until 1-2 months before the systems are out, developers thinking they needed more time than they did or not having enough time to meet launch. I think we've still got a few surprises left with this console launch.

I feel this way as well. It is worst because I decided that in order to afford my PS4, I had to stop buying games until it released. I've lasted for 3 months but my Wii U is starting to call to me. All those great games coming this fall... Not to mention 3DS and my god, GTA V. Not sure I can last much longer...

So they show inFamous but SCE won't show super secret launch game X?
Or the super secret special December release?

Outside of PSN games I think anyone hoping for this will be very disappointed...

Even if the games you want won't be out til 2014, it's not as if there's will be a price cut so soon, so why not get it at launch?

Yeah these are my thoughts as well. I doubt the price will drop before next Christmas and I will probably get it before then.

I also decided to wait a few months, as there is still plenty coming to PS3 and Xbox 360. Hell, my most anticipated games are with GTA V next month and then Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 and Dark Souls 2 later. Of course there are the cross-gen titles as well. I just don't see the need to be in any hurry, myself.

PS4 is going to be my first day-one console purchase ever in my 31years of gaming.

I've pre-ordered Watch Dogs and CoD: Ghosts which will tide me over fine as I wait for inFAMOUS: Second Son and I can always play Assassin'S Creed and Battlefield should I want to.

Then in the Spring I'll be getting the Xbox One and Titanfall.

I'm so ready for next gen.

Obligatory. I'm in the same boat though. My mind is pretty set on the PS4, however I don't see a need to pick it up early on. I've got a backlog the size of Olympus Mons and a PC that's going to compete with next-gen stuff. It would be a waste of money for me, personally.

That said, I understand the hype. Been there myself before.

How do you know? We still have Gamescom, the possible Sony event before TGS, and TGS itself. Plenty of chances for Sony to announce more games for launch.

They are not going to announce launch games 2/3 months before release. Especially the kind of games people want (the so called AAA games).

People waiting for new launch games being announced are only going to be disappointed.

Agreed. After buying a PS3 partly on the promise of Versus XIII and The Last Guardian, I've learned to not buy a new console until several games I want are actually out.

Do what I'm doing and get one when XV drops. Was going to add KH III with that, but that probably won't come out before I'm 30, so.

The most compelling software is on the 360 and PS3. None of the next gen only games will get anywhere near the likes of:

Batman Arkham Origins
LOS 2
GTA V
South Park

And of course Dark Souls II.

I'm waiting until summer or Fall 2014 before I pick up the X1. That's when the truely great games will start releasing.

Is Destiny and The Witcher 3 confirmed early 2014? I thought it was only "2014" which ususally means late in the year 2014.

I think both are first half of 2014 based on what I have seen hinted or read. I could be wrong though.

I cannot see how they would release Destiny outside of the very profitable holiday shopping season.

IMO late 2014

Same way as TitanFall is. Sometimes it's good to get in early when there's more of a drought and it's less crowded.

Day 1 for me been waiting for this forever. Not sure about games but for the moment : KZ, #DC and FIFA14. Maybe Knack and WD later.

Whilst I tend to agree, I find it really odd that ND (dev of the generation IMHO) don't have a launch title - even if it's the SP DLC for LoU.

Also MM - they showed something that could be nearer ready than folk think.

Sony have done a great job this release. The reveal (8GB GDDR5 reveal), then E3 (£350/$400 reveal), then you have Gamescon and finally TGS...why not have big reveals at each?

Because the "highly profitable holiday shopping season" has way more competition and Activision isn't going to release an FPS which is a new IP against Call of Duty.

Yeah add me to the wait and see list. I de idef to upgrade my PC graphics card instead.

If mgs5 doesn't get announced for PC by the time in releases on consoles i will probably pick up one.

Funny story...over the weekend, Amazon was having a 20% off code for Amazon Visa cardholders - so I thought I would go and pre-order some PS4 launch titles at $48.

So I looked and looked. Couldn't find a single game I really really wanted to pre-order. I looked at the Top Sellers list, I looked online for the complete list of PS4 launch games. Nothing caught my eye. So I ended up pre-ordering Killzone and Madden25 just because.

It really caught me by surprise that there were no launch titles that I had interest in owning.

Still day 1...ps3 will need to be replaced as I'm giving it to one of my cousins in the Philippines... In for some KZ and watchdogs action

I got a Wii U at launch and yes there has been some droughts but I don't have a lot of time to play either. A lot of great Wii U games are coming and I have a PS3 and 3DS. I also have a crappy laptop which I got some games on the last steam sales.

Still to play TLOU, Tomb Raider and some old classics like RDR. I have a backlog and I want to get games for the Wii U when they finally arrive, so buying a launch PS4 makes no sense to me.

Still on the fence between a PC and getting the PS4 way later. Either way I will wait this year out, still so much to play and cheap. There are a lot of cheap PS3 games and Wii U games are starting to go down as well.

Nothing on PS4 launch is catching my attention, but I am sure it will get nice must haves, so will get later.

I'm more excited about Watchdogs than I have been for a game in awhile. Yeah, it's coming out on the PC/360/PS3 as well, but I like what they've said about using the touchpad for his cell phone functionality, so it's cool that launch games from 3rd parties are actually going to utilize that tech.

For me it's a combination of two things keeping me on the current gen:

1) More games I'm interested in are on the current gen (AC:BF, DS2, South Park, Batman: AO and Titanfall).

2) I have been burned before from launch consoles breaking down (ps2 and 360).

That being said, I'm tempted to pick up a next gen console within the first year.

Got burned on 3DS, accordingly did not get Vita or Wii U at launch, and am happy about it. Pre-ordered a PS4 just in case but don't intend on keeping it and am not excited about anything coming out at launch.

Just saying, I'm not ruling anything out until the boxes ship. I'm not a big supporter of a bunch of 1st party titles dropping on console launch day anyway, since it's better to space them out over the year from a sale's standpoint, but if they announce another couple of PSN downloadables, that would be pretty cool.

Is this true? I thought we'd be getting Driveclub at launch with one of these titles following over the next few months.

Become a late adopter.

Everything is cheaper, you avoid the bad games, and selection is good. If there are limited release titles just buy them before you get the console.

Why couldnt new titles be revealed for launch ?
If the development time is seriously shorter for the ps4 it can happen.
It can also be marketing to get people hyped and then the last few blows to get people over the edge.

That's what I'm doing with the XBO, figure if I pick one up holiday 2014, good chance the price will have dropped on the hardware $50-$100, and Dead Rising 3 will be like $20 at that point, which is the big XBO launch title I'm interested in.

I'm not really feeling the launch line up, I will for sure end up owning a PS4 but I have a pretty good desktop PC that will be able to play the cross platform games at really high settings and the exclusives aren't that exciting right now on the PS4 (at least not on day 1). I'm more interested in getting a Wii U first and then get a PS4 later on..

This like 100%. One thing I hate about these threads is all it is.. Is a derail. Why make a thread about why you don't want one. If you don't you don't. All this does is make people question the stuff they really want. Last year everyone was talking so much crap about how they want to be over with current gen, new gen comes around and boom, the backtrack.

I have a PC too and I could buy all those on PC but I'm sorry, I don't want to always game on my PC and fear upgrading every 3 years to keep up with the times. Plus sure the community is better (especially with mods and stuff) but I have real friends who play on consoles and that's not changing any time soon. I want to be able to play with them and the new people I meet who will most likely have a console.

This has absolutely nothing to do with games or money, so I doubt that's the reason for this backpedaling... It's all about the hype that people allowed themselves to feel to get to a point that they can no longer feel happy anymore. I'm sure every one knows in the long run current gen will be phased out, better games and support will be there and third parties will start to gimp on current gen to bring the best to next gen. That's how it works. I wouldn't be surprised of glitching and unoptimization plagues current gen because next gen is so much better to develop for as well as less time consuming. Think of the long run people. I have over 100+ games in my backlog but that will not stop me from getting a next gen. I know exactly how current gen will act after launch of next gen. Skyrim PS3 issue will be on almost all current gen games. I know it.

I'm definitely getting one at launch, or no later than days after.

Killzone, Watch Dogs, NBA2K14, and the Instant Game Collection should keep me going until more releases hit.

I'll be keeping my PS4 preorder for Killzone which I'm a big fan of. Also looking forward to Infamous. Will probably get BF4 for ps4 as well. Sure, Bf4 would look better on my PC. But i dont like to use a mouse and I'd get torn up if I play bf4 PC online with a controller

Like someone said much earlier; right now the hype machine is dying down. but the hype machine will be full force again around late September. Especially if some new game gets announced at gamescom, etc too

I'm excited that new consoles are finally launching but I don't see the reason to get one when a lot of the games I'm interested in are also going to be on something I already own, my PC. I'll wait until more exclusives are released.
