It's going to be hilarious to see just how they hire to play Abby because there isnt a 6 foot tall actress with a body of an NFL linebacker out there in hollywood. Someone brought up Florence Pugh which made me laugh out because shes 5'2.

They will have to hire a nobody for a what is essentially going to be a lead role.
Why not a transexual?

Yeah. I dont think she needs to be buff in the show. Firstly, theres no female Arnold Schwarzenegger out there (i.e - a body builder waiting to be discovered and turns out she can act). She just needs to be super fit and in shape. And honestly, she doesnt even need to be 6ft tall - She just needs to be taller than Ellie. I brought up Florence Pugh because she is a damn good actor that looks like her in the face, is taller than Bella Ramsey, and could probably get in shape quickly.

She is probably too big of a star for the show as it is right now though.
Changing it to Fungus that only spreads via bites is going to create a whole new can of worms. For example, how did everyone turn so fast in the first episode from bites if it takes days for the symptoms to appear? A week for transformation?

They said the city is where most people got it. Well, people were biting everyone for weeks in the city and everyone just came back to this rural small town with bites and went to the movies?

See the below quote. Showrunners said they are going to throw subtle hints at us as to how the virus started over the span of the series. But some keen eyed folks have already pointed out the below. Which upon second watch is clear as day. I kind of like the mystery behind it plus the hints as to how it started vs just outright saying it.

Agreed. The thing is too, how did it get into the flour to react in such a way. There might be more depth to that, hopefully other than "humans bad, climate change."

I groaned at the climate change bit in the prologue and I believe in climate change. Im like come on dude. If we knew that there would be fungus epidemics that would turn us into zombies in 1968 then surely we wouldve easily been able to research that. warmer planet isnt really that hard to simulate in labs. Especially since the planet really hasnt warmed that much though i dont know what their criteria for fungus growth really is.

The shoehorning of this shit is what bugs me. It comes across as Neil saying to his new hollywood friends, 'Hey look at me, I made a Climate change thing. Im one of you cool folks'.

Interesting. Lets see what they do with it.

I hope they change up Ellie as well for next season. Dont think Bella Ramsey is going to grow up. She looks 14 now and will look 14 in 2 years. Ellie needs to get bigger. I was thinking of that house of dragon actress who herself was replaced by an older actress half way through the last season. She looks like a 17 year old teenager and would be perfect for Ellie.

Agreed. They'll have to explain why this strain of Cordyceps was able to evolve and survive in a host with a internal temperature over 94° F. Unless they explain an intelligent design where it causes your body temperature to lower and go into a hypothermic state/shock. So the person may still be alive in there, just locked into a comatose-like state.

Perfect time to replace her with Kaitlyn Dever.

I read they had a hard time with the first episode and I'm pretty sure why now after playing through the first part of the game again. I bet they had arguments on how bad they should make Joel for people who don't play video games. If they made him too bad of a person then people might be inclined to stop watching.

In the game he is killing regular people left and right in going after Robert and his men because of guns and also the torture scene of Robert is not pleasant to watch. In the show it's about a battery to go help his brother and they don't go and kill Robert and his men. The little things they do in the series to show how bad he is is very minimal. He's a drug dealer and when he does kill a man they blame it on PTSD and have him go a bit crazy which is a far cry from killing men over guns. They do make mention of how bad he can be but don't show it so maybe there are some flashback scenes, but I doubt it.

It doesn't really matter in the long run, but it's curious to see the differences between a video game and a Tv Show.

It's also the first episode. I am sure things are going to get crazier with him and Ellie as the season progresses. You answered your own question in the first paragraph.

Man, she would be perfect

They 100% should do this. Part II is 5 years later, Kaitlyn is 26 but she could easily look like early 20's. And she would be at perfect age later on after the time skip to Santa Barbara.
Nope.

1- they're not recasting Ellie lol

2- Part 2's story spans 6 years with Ellie ages 15-20.

the 2nd and 3rd seasons of the show, if made, will be when Dever is almost 30 years old. too old

1 - why not? Happened with House of the Dragon. Not exactly a "recast", but another actress for old Ellie only.
Would be really weird to see the same actress playing 14 years old Ellie on flashbacks and 20 years old Ellie.

2 - Damn, I always thought that Ellie was 23-25 during Part II. The apocalypse ages people.

Completely disagree...a warmer climate can have lots of unexpected effects and create new risks. The uncertainty and massive downside even with low probability is why it's so much smarter to stop the change happening intl the first place. The dude espousing the " warmer climate mind controlling fungus" theory is in the minority in the 60s and thats brilliant. Its exactly how science works. It constistently challenges, refutes or redefines our accepted wisdom and knowledge. It converts minority theories rejected by the mainstream into mainstream knowledge over time.

you thought Ellie went from 14 (almost 15) years old ... to 23 years old... in a few weeks?

part 2's prologue literally takes place weeks after part 1's epilogue

The prologue, yes. But then there's a time jump, of course.

Thought that it has been more than 5 years after the time jump, like 8 or 10

Damn that first episode was good! Strangely enough, Pedro seems like the weak link so far. Even though the characters look different, almost everybody fit their characters really well

They just might have to do that if they cant find an actress.

Though they might have already cast Abby since I am pretty sure both the doctor and a teenage Abby will be in the final episode.
There are tons of muscular woman available. IDK why people are going to the extremes about this…

Loved it.

Only thing I found odd was how they go out of their way to not show that Joel is brutal by nature now. Beat the guy who stole from him? Nope, he was already dead. Kill the Fedra soldier to avoid getting caught? Nope, instead it's a PTSD reaction.

Is Joel brutal by nature? The pandemic caused him and every other survivor to change and adapt, most if not all for the worst.

off topic but got the 2 hour trial for the game PS5.

wtf, on oled this game just looks superior than anything i've ever played. Especially on the fidelity mode... It looks crazy, and tbh better than Horizon

Hopefully the increase in sales/demo engagement stemming from the success of the show will allow Pt.1 to finally get the proper credit it deserves as top 5 current gen graphical showcase to date.

Watched episode 1 tonight. It was okay? I'll watch more and see how it goes. I didnt hate it but I wasnt blown away or anything. The truck action scenes were the best part and the general look of the show was good. But I felt like all the material with the fireflies was pretty slow. Joel tackling the guard and punching him into a pulp just didn't feel like it had the necessary anger in the actual acting. Didnt live up to any of the great Rick Grimes oh shit moments for me.

But I more or less enjoyed it. If it ends up half as good as Walking Dead S1-3 I'll be happy. At this point I'm pretty much only in for the action.

parts of it were great. parts of it seemed like a bad Walking Dead spinoff. and kinda hokey. So i wish they could kinda keep the quality even. Which they didn't.

Pedro was decent. The little girl was good. I don't feel like they are the exact ppl from the game tho. They def put their spin on it a little. whatever. I don't like the game anyway.

the adult woman with the black eye was the best actor in the episode. She was very believable. the leader of the firefly boston chick who was bleeding out was the worst actor in the episode
They're not supposed to be the exact people from the game. It's an adaptation. People need to really stop this line of thinking.

I definitely noticed the quality of the acting was worse than I expected. It wasn't bad, just not some insane 10/10 thing like I was preparing myself for with these reviews.

I challenge people to just go rewatch Walking Dead episode 1. The difference in the quality of the acting is staggering.

TLOU seems fine. But its not even close to TWD or GOT in terms of acting or dialogue so far. But obviously just episode 1. Long way to go.

Lol. I'm straight with it. I've played Horizon. I've played Demon's Souls. I think this looks better. Just so incredibly detailed I can't really believe what I'm playing.

House of the Dragon was in one season, and they specifically casted with that age change to happen mid season in mind. It was also a 20 year time gap for a woman who had 3 kids

No reason for them to recast when they can much more effectively achieve the 5 year time jump with natural ageing and hair/makeup. They also need to do flashbacks to the time between TLOU and TLOU2

Isn't sarah supposed to be 11? Did they change her age? cause the actress clearly looks much older/almost adult; I get it it, child actors suck, but it is a bit weird.
she's not supposed to be anything, she's a dead daughter. she could be 24 for all the narrative cares...

I wonder if HBO has the distribution rights indefinitely for the show.

Sony should probably look at limiting those in the future. This show would have made a killing on Netflix and the exposure would have been even better for the game(s).

Definitely, something they should consider in their next slate of shows and movies.

But now you're going to see even more calls for original IP and AAA narrative games.

Sure, good luck with that..

Just saw the first episode. This shit is better than the game. I'm so in.
Couldn't disagree any more. Same difference that goes from reading a good book on your own with your S tier imagination (game) vs being vocally read an altered version of the book while being provided with pre-made illustrations on every page (live-action).

TV series so far is entirely devoid of all the environmental storytelling, the vast landscapes of the beauty of nature reclaiming the planet juxtaposed to the decaying humanity, all the subtleties going on step by step while traversing from point A to point B etc. etc. I mean as far as the intimate experience TLOU is supposed to be the game is light years ahead and things are only going to get worse as the series progresses given it's going to completely lack the organic personal bonding provided by the interactive format, which plays the primary role in the entire third and best act.
